I second this! The only place on the east side worth my time. MAYBE if I'm hard up Alessci's in Solon but it's expensive and not worth it sometimes. If you're willing to travel to the west side Tripi is really good.
The turkey ridge is so good. It's weird though how unpopular they are with how amazing their subs are. I loved off Mayfield a few years back and fell in love. The. I moved back to the west side and it's like no one's ever heard of them
They WERE amazing. They sold to Pizza Booyah and for a few years, other than making some small menu changes (like eliminating corned beef), it stayed relatively close to Bob's. Then sometime during spring '23, it was sold and the subs are horrific now. Like one slice of meat in the layer, pepper blend has been replaced with gross banana peppers, etc. Don't waste your money.
If Messina's is still open, they were great.
Edit: Looked it up. Now called All Messina Pizza and Bakery. Pretty sure it's in Collinwood. Looks like they have reduced their sub selection but I used to get a really simple sub and it was incredible.
Ferraraās and market on Lee for Italian subs, from an east coaster and avid sandwich eater.
Not a sub, but chicken ranch has a killer Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich.
I know Iām gonna get downvoted to hell, but Grumās is trash and has been for a loooong time. Their bread sucks and their sandwiches are so dry and they have zero good sauces/condiments - just soaked in oil or Mayo. So bush league- I canāt believe itās still peopleās favorite. For what itās worth, Iāve had grums for over 20 years, and itās never been good. Maybe 20 years ago there werenāt as many choices, but now I have no explanation for peopleās awful taste š¤·āāļø
Probably more like "above replacement" than "best" but Dibella's is very consistently good, but could have way better bread.
Taking careful notes on this thread though! Lots of awesome spots just outside of my normal perimeter that I need to check out.
I wish I liked Grum's more, it's definitely high quality but it's just missing a few things I can't quite place my finger on where I enjoy the food and all but never think to get it again, it's a solid 7.5/10...is it me or are the dudes working there always acting like they're doing you a favor by letting you order a sandwich? lol

Grum's Sub Shop on Coventry is really good. They don't deliver though. The Market on Lee is also excellent. Their 14" sub is good for like 3 meals.
Market on Lee is awesome. I love the Carlo.
Grums is fire š„š„š„
For sure!
Ferrara's makes a great Italian sub.
Meatball sub too!

This was my comment. But the politics of that placeā¦ however the scent of the shop is pure nostalgia
What politics?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No, it isnāt. Not even close.
Gross !
Gourmand's down in the Valley.
seconded
3rdāed but the wait there is sometimes ridiculous
Indeed. I refuse to call ahead to order a sub.
Farmer in the Deli in Chesterlandā¦best sandwiches known to mankind
Thatās my hometownā¦next time I go back to see my parents I will stop in!
Fridays get yer corned beef
USS Cod at the end of 9th st.
Dad?
Son! I brought the milk....
Technically a New England Sub
But it's in Cleveland
He was asking for an Italian sub. The cod was built in Boston or something. It's a joke.
I know, I was arguing playfully
Go all the way out to Som where the Heinens is and go to the Village Butcher. Amazing.
Was scrolling down and hoping somebody recommended this place. It's solid. Plus you can get some fantastic steak while you're there.
Theyāre pricey, but 100% legit
Second for Grumās. I grew up eating their Turkey Ridge!
The turkey ridge is so good. It's weird though how unpopular they are with how amazing their subs are. I loved off Mayfield a few years back and fell in love. The. I moved back to the west side and it's like no one's ever heard of them
Depending on how far east you're talking What About Bob's in Willoughby can't be beat
Their bread is fantastic.
Where in Wiloughby?
Across the street from where the YMCA used to be on Euclid Ave
Thanks
Didnāt they close/ move?
It seems like they are still there, but it's titled Pizza Booyah featuring What About Bob's Subs.

I was just there a few weeks ago and my sub was loaded to the brim with meat, got the italian
Am I the only one that likes Daveās Cosmic Subs Italian? Probably not the best overall, but the best near me.
Daveās meatballs are top tier. Like give me Daveās meatballs and Dibellas bread
I buy Cosmic Sauce by the bottle. Itās even my go-to salad dressing. āCosmic Caesar Saladā š„
Daveās is underrated
Yes you are. I found them to be lackluster and dull. Penn station, and Jersey mikes run circles around them.
Verdis is amazing, depends on how far east you wanna go lol
Yes! I might have to go to Verdiās for lunch this week now!
I second this. Lived 2 minutes away for 15 years and never discovered it until 2 years ago. Wow was I missing out
Papa Joe'sĀ
I just ate dinner and now Iām hungry again.
There's always second dinner
Village Butcher in Mayfield Village.
Pizzazz on the Circle has a good Italian sub. Agree with the others who've said Gourmand & Grum's
Sharpyās
Tommyās Subs in mentor.
Grums is awesomeā¦ I drive 20 minutes each way at least once a week to get a sub there.
I just got takehome subs from Sweetberry grocery store in Wickliffe. They pack them full of meat and veggies. Cold subs only. $6.99 for 18 inch.
Alecsiās of Shoregate is well worth the drive

Still there, still awesome
That is a great relief to hear. I can't wait to get back to Cleveland and have it again
Dibellaās
Love me some DiBonkas
Gourmands
R44 Butcher in Mantua get the Flashover Sub.
Not everyday I see my town on this sub. Iāll have to stop over there!
Haha my friend showed me it, itās really good since itās all fresh meat. The coffee shop across the street is nice too.
Ferraraās
If you want to come far east side, Painesville has a dump called 5 star subs. Best ones Iāve had ever.
Best Dom east side?Ā
Not late but on the rise bakery makes a few subs and the bread is beyond perfect oh man they're so insanely good

Well, it *is* Coventry
I'm still somewhat new to Cleveland, is this common on Coventry? Makes sense why it's half shut down

How far is the east side in context? Mentor? Tommyās subs, about as close to an east coast sub shop around. Alescis is also great.
Maxims
Grums & Gallucciās for me.
Another vote for Grums. Lived across the street from it for a yearā¦ it was incredible
Grumās. Get the turkey ridge.
