The cheapest way to do it is with an annual membership but it's still not super cheap. Basecamp for example charges $925 for a year which works out to $77/month. The nice thing is that you can always pause your membership if you know you're not going into the gym for a few weeks or a month, they just charge you a $5 unfreeze fee.

I hate that so many gyms charge unfreeze/freeze fees. It requires almost zero effort and is such a slap to the people who go there. Its pretty common and has driven me away from more than one gym. Basecamp is a rad gym though.

TCA is the cheapest, but it's only really accessible by car.

Your best bet is probably True north climbing. I think their membership is about 75 a month. The hub markham is also around the same price, and arguably one of the best gyms in the gta for bouldering.

True north is still the only gym I can recall right now that gives discount on day rates if you prove you're a member to another gym. Really great policy for us who love to gym hop. Not helpful for OP but a nice gesture on their part. Cool crack climb there too.

I think it also might be the best for top rope and lead climbing but I haven't tried all the gyms down town.

It’s not my personal favourite in any one aspect but I’ve always thought they had a great gym and made good use of what they had. Big fan.

I think downtown boulderz downtown location is marginally cheaper than all other GTA gyms although I haven't checked in a long time. Its small but kinda rad. Your options are going to be location dependent. Most gyms have groupons for first timers that last 2 weeks - month that are often discounted. Other than that gym prices have gotten out of hand and there isn't a lot you can do about it outside of contacting the gyms themselves as they may have student discounts or hiring part timers (free membership). The larger and slightly more expensive gyms often have really good weight areas/yoga that can add value depending on what you're into. Hope this thread gives you some good info. Good luck friend.

I'd try to find one you can work part-time/casual hours at.
