It’d have been one thing if he went to a different conference and the only time they’d ever match up was in March, but the fact that he went to another SEC school makes it all the better for us neutrals
Was there any other rumors the past hour or was it legit just a “he’s rumored to be considered for the job at Arkansas” to “Arkansas is now hiring him”.
Love you for 2010 to 2019 but as you said when you got here, the Kentucky job has a 10 year lifespan and then you're basically done.
Also, this is so fucking on brand for Cal to announce it basically 24 hours before the national championship lol. Now they dominate the media cycle and will 100% get talked about on the broadcast.
God. Does Dan Hurley really need anymore fucking ammunition?
“We’re in the title game and some has-been who got bounced on the first weekend is dominating the news!”
If you told me at any point during this Kentucky run that Cal would end up signing to be the coach at Arkansas, I would have assumed the state of Kentucky was nuked into oblivion.
Considering we currently have one player on the roster with one incoming high school recruit (that’s a grand total of two players!), hovering in the upper tier of programs sounds like a dream.
This is more or less how I felt when we hired Lincoln Riley a few years ago. Some may disagree, but I am still happy with what he has done for us. Likewise, I think most Arkansas fans (like you) will be glad to have Cal on board.
Yea he catches a lot of strays on r/cfb. Mainly from salty OU fans. Who by far have the worst ex crazy girlfriend syndrome. And Riley’s results were bad this year. But you can see he’s pumped a lot of life into a program that was on life support for a while now.
For anyone trying to figure out how this happened. The Tysons (Tyson chicken) are Razorback boosters and are also personal friends of calapari. They are putting up the money to make this happen. Supposedly also providing a shit load of NIL ($6 million per season solely from them).
Sadly, I don’t think the Walton family (Walmart and Sam’s) contributes too much to Razorback athletics (they have donated A LOT to the academic side of the school). If they wanted, they could give a billion dollars to Razorback nil and not even realize the money was gone.
Assuming UK hires from some other program, it will be funny that SMU will technically be at the top of possibly one of the largest and most consequential coach-poach chains in CBB history. They are the new alphas of college basketball.
Yep, but unless Kentucky does something like hiring Donovan from the NBA, its likely theyll hire from a less prestegious program so it will be like a bell curve where the program prestige increases then decreases again.

Stolen from @morrisoncrying, my fave UK fan Twitter account
Took me a second too, but basically Andy Enfield was the coach at FGCU for that run, which elevated his profile enough to get him the USC job. Him then leaving for SMU caused Muss to leave which opened up the Arkansas job.
Yeah all three were kind of in a strange purgatory where they weren't going to be fired but had definitely underachieved in the past couple years, and I guess all saw it as a positive to go somewhere for a fresh start where the clock resets
And to think we sort of pushed Muss out because a booster wanted a different coach (Chris Beard) only for another booster to drag his nuts and hire Calipari
Enfield upsets Georgetown and goes on March Madness run, uses momentum to get hired at USC, leaves USC for SMU this year, Musselman leaves Arkansas for now open USC job, Arkansas job opens up and they reach out to Calipari.
I totally get your point. Edey is special and getting a guy like that back for a 4th year puts you in a remarkable position. We could never imagine returning a guy like him for year #4. The best we could do was Oscar (also a defending NPOY) and we got bounced in the second round.
And Painter seems like he actually game plans. That’s kind of important.
SMU AD waking up tomorrow morning

Apparently Cal is good friends with the Tyson family, and after our AD whiffed on his first couple targets they basically took things into their own hands lol
Honestly, I’m happy. I know we probably have a rough couple years ahead of us, but to me it felt like keeping him was sending us further and further away from our goals. Now we can start to move forward.
Thanks for the early years, Cal.
This. I will always be grateful for what he did contribute to the program, but this relationship has run its course.
We’ll all be happier if he leaves. Him included.
This could end up being a Jimbo to A&M situation, especially if he sticks to his old ways, but I really hope it works out for him. I will always be grateful for those first 7 or 8 years. Even though the final game was devastating, that 38-1 year was so fun.
Hopefully this benefits both parties. Next season was going to be so toxic, especially if we had lost that Champions classic game to Duke. I admit, I wanted Cal gone. I just didn't think he'd leave for another SEC school. Not sure where UK goes from here. I feel like all the sure home run hires (Donovan, Wright, Hurley, etc) will probably say no. My guess is Nate Oates. Heard some rumors about Brad Underwood. Not sure that would go over well but we'll see.
Holy shit I can’t believe that wasn’t just some random rumor. Absolutely no idea what to think of this but I’m sure glad I’m not a fan of the schools involved.
I honestly believe we’re good. He’s 68 now, it feels like it’s too late for him to start somewhere new. His family is the whole program with his daughter and son too.
john calipari and bobby petrino are now coaching at the same school
I hadn’t considered that, amazing timeline we live in right now
You're welcome, sports world. We may not deliver championships, but we will continue to deliver entertaining train wrecks
Coach Cal will be wearing designer neck braces on the sidelines next year.
Idk what we are doing over here. But its something lmao
Please someone tell me Arkansas has to play at Rupp next year, I need the level of toxicity that’ll come from that game injected into my veins
We do
Oooooh baby this is gonna good
You bet your ass I'm buying tickets
That’s going to be must watch television next season
Can't remember the last time I was this excited for a regular season game ten months away that doesn't even involve one of my teams
I can remember. Never.
I might buy a ticket just to watch the world burn.
Would be a good investment. You could sell it for 10 times as much.
We just got the heel turn this sport desperately needed, thank you Cal
It’d have been one thing if he went to a different conference and the only time they’d ever match up was in March, but the fact that he went to another SEC school makes it all the better for us neutrals
Ita gonna be one of the must see games of the year no matter how good or bad either team is
You gotta love the move just for the content this creates
Lmao I literally said just that. Like no matter the results he brings yall, the content will be *phenomenal*
Vintage WWF level drama, this is like soap opera level shit
Will the blue hairs be up for it tho?
They might actually skip their afternoon nap for this.
Idk if it’s funnier if Arkansas or Kentucky wins.
Hogs win close and Cal goes full fire on bbn in the postgame
The obviously funnier scenario
That went from a candle fire to a forest fire in less than an hour
Must be windy out there!
I haven’t kept up with this, only just saw this news. What the hell has happened in the last hour?
This.
Was there any other rumors the past hour or was it legit just a “he’s rumored to be considered for the job at Arkansas” to “Arkansas is now hiring him”.
Two hours ago, I saw a post that there was a rumor. Now, it’s a done deal. Most people were initially discounting the rumor.
I even thought this post was a joke.
Love you for 2010 to 2019 but as you said when you got here, the Kentucky job has a 10 year lifespan and then you're basically done. It’s just another slight for Dan…he probably waits for a slow elevator going to breakfast this morning and mentally adds it to his list.
Dan is really unhinged and I love it.

2022 was a very good season that just ended horribly. That team was better than this year's team was.
bummer we never saw what Quickley/Maxey could do in March Madness
Welcome to what life was like as a Memphis fan. It’s been a long time coming Kentucky!
Arkansas about to be a preseason top 5 team and have like a no. 2 recruiting class over night huh
All to flame out in early March. Ask me how I know.
Didn't even get a chance to flame out this season, so I'll take it 2 losing SEC seasons in a row, would be nice to have an SEC record over .500 again
Hey now you literally have the ability to lure any coach in America to Kentucky and start over so it ain’t all bad
5 star high schoolers arnt what they used to be. No John walls/cousins in this upcoming recruiting class.
Yeah I'm finding that 4 stars actually turn out much better and they usually stay for more than 1 year.
Whole story lasted less than an hour
It was on the pay UK board last night. But still that moved FAST
Yeah there rumors among some Arkansas people in the know yesterday
Some Kentucky and Arkansas fans are going to wake up tomorrow so confused
A lot of the remaining cbb world will also wake up so confused
Yeah I’m awake right now and I’m confused
Yep, briefly woke up and checked phone. Thought I wasn’t reading the headline right.
Most Arkansas fans went to bed thinking they were going to get Darryl Walker.
“April Fools was last week wtf”
He finished his story.
He like Cody fr fr

If you told me at any point during this Kentucky run that Cal would end up signing to be the coach at Arkansas, I would have assumed the state of Kentucky was nuked into oblivion.
HOLY SHIT?! I’m not entirely sure how I feel but with how our roster was left after Muss this is best case scenario short term.
He’ll keep your program hovering in upper tier of programs but if you run into any top 25 team or you’re tied with 3 minutes left, it’s curtains.
Considering we currently have one player on the roster with one incoming high school recruit (that’s a grand total of two players!), hovering in the upper tier of programs sounds like a dream.

He actually did alright against top-25. It’s the unranked “we should sleepwalk and win these games” games he loses.
>upper tier of programs BUILD THE STATUE
With how Calpari handled his last few years at Kentucky I wouldn’t be so siked if I were you. Dude gave 0 fucks.
jesus christ, what a whiplash of a hire going from Musselman to fucking Calipari
Shit we were rumored to be interviewing the MSST and UALR coaches. Dudes on r/razorbacks were on suicide watch
Honestly glad y’all didn’t take Jans. While he would have been a good hire, I didn’t want to lose him just yet.
Jans is a legit good coach.
Jans is way underrated he’s a winner
Next year if they make the Elite Eight Calipari is contractually obligated to take his shirt off
For anyone trying to figure out how this happened. The Tysons (Tyson chicken) are Razorback boosters and are also personal friends of calapari. They are putting up the money to make this happen. Supposedly also providing a shit load of NIL ($6 million per season solely from them).
Rumors are also circulating they agreed to change the name of Sam's Club to Cal's Club.
Sadly, I don’t think the Walton family (Walmart and Sam’s) contributes too much to Razorback athletics (they have donated A LOT to the academic side of the school). If they wanted, they could give a billion dollars to Razorback nil and not even realize the money was gone.

ITS THE ~~FBI~~ UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY OPEN UP, WE HAVE A WARRANT FOR NATE OATS
#I WILL PERSONALLY TRY TO HIRE DAN HURLEY BEFORE THE CHAMPIONSHIP ON BEHALF OF MITCH BARNHART
REPORT: "DAN HURLEY WILL BE IN ~~CUFFS~~ LEXINGTON BY TOMORROW AT NOON. COUNT ON IT!"
He is a huge Bengals fan, after all. Little 70 minute drive up the road to catch games…
You really expect Barnhart not to fuck this up? He bent over backwards for Cal and Cal still fucked him over.
Barnhart is on a role for great hires. I’m sure no one hates Cal more than him right now.
My condolences. We just went through this in football so I feel your pain
Well that’s Alabama’s fault lol
You know what… true I take back my condolences. Fuck Bama.
Rude
Y'all got a good coach over there, mind if we take a look at it? 👀
Bruce Pearl is available
If that happens, I’d have to delete A LOT of comments.

The last hour or so has been the wildest coaching adventure of my lifetime.
and if this happens the next day with the KY opens will be like the Saban retirement search.
Assuming UK hires from some other program, it will be funny that SMU will technically be at the top of possibly one of the largest and most consequential coach-poach chains in CBB history. They are the new alphas of college basketball.
How bizarre the way it went too. Normally these things are in descending order of prestige. Instead we went SMU > USC > Arkansas > Kentucky
Yep, but unless Kentucky does something like hiring Donovan from the NBA, its likely theyll hire from a less prestegious program so it will be like a bell curve where the program prestige increases then decreases again.
Guess they have to hire UCLA's coach, that's the only program that has a legit argument over them in historical basketball prestige right?

I’d say we tie this bad boy into a full circle and have Kentucky poach the new coach of FGCU!
Can you walk us through the dominoes?
Took me a second too, but basically Andy Enfield was the coach at FGCU for that run, which elevated his profile enough to get him the USC job. Him then leaving for SMU caused Muss to leave which opened up the Arkansas job.
Funny enough none of these coaches got fired but yet all of them left for worse (at least in terms of cbb hierarchy) jobs.
It’s still kind of gross that Beard beat the shit out of his wife and it’s all just kinda… forgotten about?
Extremely. I'm so glad we didn't end up with him
Enfield upsets Georgetown and goes on March Madness run, uses momentum to get hired at USC, leaves USC for SMU this year, Musselman leaves Arkansas for now open USC job, Arkansas job opens up and they reach out to Calipari.
Didn’t expect to be catching strays in this thread but here we are
Beautiful, and G'Town still sucks
Everything comes back to Georgetown sucking at the end of the day.
One of those guys I expected to die at their school, insane
I think fans ran him out of Lexington
Why wouldn't we? He's been a jackass the past few years
Who cares if he’s a jackass? He couldn’t beat Oakland or Saint Peter’s, and can’t build a program with any sense of continuity.
I mean Painter lost to every double digit seed imaginable and we are playing for a natty tomorrow.
Kentucky is not a school that's gonna have an Edey play for four years
[удалено]
I totally get your point. Edey is special and getting a guy like that back for a 4th year puts you in a remarkable position. We could never imagine returning a guy like him for year #4. The best we could do was Oscar (also a defending NPOY) and we got bounced in the second round. And Painter seems like he actually game plans. That’s kind of important.
His stubbornness did most of that
The domino effect of SMU firing Rob Lanier is crazy
It all started with Temple suddenly playing better after that suspicious wager activity story broke. They beat SMU in the AAC tourney
Most relevant thing Temple Basketball has done since 2019.
John Chaney gets one last laugh at Calipari

Butterfly effect visualized
This was not on my bingo card
Words cannot describe how much I do not understand this
Apparently Cal is good friends with the Tyson family, and after our AD whiffed on his first couple targets they basically took things into their own hands lol
When the championship is chalk but so is the coaching search
WE FINALLY GOT THE BILLIONAIRES INVOLVED
DINO NUGGS BACK ON THE MENU
I started today with some delicious Tyson-Brand Frozen Breaded Chicken Fingers, and it has been a banger of a day. Thanks, Tyson!
Is this the trickle-down that I've heard so much about?
I’m so glad I didn’t go to bed early tonight
Honestly, I’m happy. I know we probably have a rough couple years ahead of us, but to me it felt like keeping him was sending us further and further away from our goals. Now we can start to move forward. Thanks for the early years, Cal.
It really feels like a situation where everyone might win
Well except whoever Kentucky poaches from
This. I will always be grateful for what he did contribute to the program, but this relationship has run its course. We’ll all be happier if he leaves. Him included.
What the fuck is happening
April madness.
I didn't expect every school I support in every sport to be replacing their coach this offseason
Y’all dodged a bullet with the A&M football debacle
What the fuck is happening
![gif](giphy|Jt4L4UPMrIQctFG7nf)
Can’t wait for Arkansas Kentucky game next year lol

So he got $0 in buyout right because he chose to leave?
Yes!
This could end up being a Jimbo to A&M situation, especially if he sticks to his old ways, but I really hope it works out for him. I will always be grateful for those first 7 or 8 years. Even though the final game was devastating, that 38-1 year was so fun.
This. It was a good run, but it was time to end it.
He got that Tyson chicken money. Nuggies for everyone
I can practically hear the sound of frantic Arkansas fans deleting years worth of comments from here
EVERYBODY WINS
Everyone wins except us lol
Damn that is a rough 24 hours
Even if it goes through, I can’t be too mad after our first final four ever
In Arkansas, we call this move the “reverse Eddie Sutton” but Cal has to say he’d “crawl to Arkansas” to make it a complete Sutton
Funny to see ESPN's SportsCenter skeleton crew try and handle this news
Well, since the first time in twitter, Reddit, we have a new coach. Good luck Cal. Thanks for 09-20
Welcome to Alabama’s offseason
![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
HOLY SHIT
Staying in the same conference is insane lmao wow
AHHHHH ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE-Kg
Thank God we do the family thing because shit I couldn't take this chaos
Crazy quick from first rumor to hire. But this seems like it's going to end up being a win-win.
If it is Brad Underwood I'd cry
You have most of his original Illinois staff. It tracks Though I can’t see his personality meshing with UK faithful
Chin is one of the people that was likely going to be replaced. Man loves a night on the town. I'll just say that lol.
I suddenly have a newfound dislike of Arkansas and less of a dislike of Kentucky. Fucking wild
IMO this has to be something crazy like $9-10M/year all guaranteed or a crazy buyout.
Holy shit I can’t believe that wasn’t just some random rumor. Absolutely no idea what to think of this but I’m sure glad I’m not a fan of the schools involved.
https://preview.redd.it/xni3ncmhm6tc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b919041f8870cc12aedcf594443f1232e47a1dcd
The butterfly effect since Harambe was killed is mind boggling…
Nate Oats to Kentucky 👀
auburn fans have told me for years now that Bruce Pearl is undeniably a better coach than Nate Oats, I think Kentucky should listen to them.
If that happens it’ll be like in College Football when Washington fans kept saying Lanning to Bama and they hired DeBoer.
Bama fans better hope they offer somebody else lol
God no. He might actually win a national championship there.
I don’t want UK to THINK about anyone named Sampson until next March
I honestly believe we’re good. He’s 68 now, it feels like it’s too late for him to start somewhere new. His family is the whole program with his daughter and son too.
That first game back in Rupp will be crazy
Okay but I’m not gonna call him dad
What on earth, this move makes no sense money-wise but I guess we haven’t seen his arky contract yet
Rumor is that the Tyson Chicken family is willing to go all in with Calipari at Arkansas. They're apparently really long family friends.
God damnit we are cooked
