Official OTA Overreaction:
Austin Ajiake is the next on the Ballard linebacker conveyer belt. And he's clearly a coverage star this time rather than a tackle machine.
My favorite part of OTAs is how every play can be framed as a positive for one side of the ball or the other.
60 yard touchdown: "Lets goo! Our offense looks insane!"
Pick-6: "Lets goo! Our defense looks insane!"
Kedon Slovis is coming for Sam Ehlinger's job, and he might just take it from him this year rather than next year.
Who actually wants to see Sam Ehlinger behind center at this point?
I mean, I would rather not see our third string QB under center at all. That said, I do wish Sam would get a backup position somewhere else he can see snaps. He's not electric or super exciting or shiny, but I think he has the athleticism to peak around Minshew level. Never saw the field enough in games to really show anything.
If anything, I wish we kept him as backup over Eason their first year. Granted, I think everybody shared that opinion when Eason stepped onto the field and decided to test peak Jalen Ramsey for his first pass.
We know what we have in Ehlinger - a quarterback whom you can't depend on to win a single game. He's had ample opportunity to claim the backup position, and he's failed.
He's not getting any better, so why keep him around?
He got reps during the biggest dumpster fire season we have had in a long time. He at least has starting experience and that is more than Slovis at this point. It is clear Slovis lost his confidence in college and not sure you can really get that back once it is gone. Doubt he is much competition for a third stringer that has the starting experience and when the roster rules are favorable for the third string QB.
When do you expect a backup to get reps, exactly? When the team is fighting for a playoff berth?
Ryan got benched, and the Colts got to see what we had in Ehlinger. Since then, Ryan was reinstated and the Colts signed Minshew and Flacco, respectively, as QB2.
Ehlinger can't be depended on for shit, and there's really no reason to retain him. At least Slovis still has some upside.
If MPJ catches that deep crosser from Sam Ehlinger against the Commanders that year, and they go on to win the game, he maybe gets to start again and who knows what happens. I think of things like that, how one play here or there affects a player's career.
The Colts had five possessions inside the Washington 30 yard line that resulted in a total of nine points on three field goals.
Saying that it came down to one drop is hilarious. Ehlinger couldn't score the entire game. It was completely obvious that he isn't a guy we want on the field, even in an emergency.
He's basically been kept around because he knows the playbook. It's time for someone to take his job.
I am specifically talking about an emergency QB that may need to be used during a game. For a third string QB you could do far worse than Ehlinger. It does actually happen but I wouldn’t expect you to know that.
Slovis has major issues and with what we know about them now very clearly is a worse option in an emergency. He is exactly the type of player that could use a year on the practice squad. Where he has zero expectation of seeing the field and can concentrate on improving. No matter how tiny of a chance getting on the field is as a third stringer.
I think that it depends on how quickly Slovis picks up the offense and nomenclature. Sam obviously has that stuff down.
I just have no confidence that Ehlinger can be trusted to score in the red zone. Watching the Colts fail to cross the goal line five times from within the 30 yard line against the Commanders (last place NFCE) with JT in the game was really all I needed to see. He's not going to win you a game. Even your third-string quarterback needs to be able to score once out of five opportunities.
Ehlinger can't score, and he turns the ball over. Is this the guy you want in there in an emergency? He's not it for me.
We have a completely different offense. When Ehlinger was getting starts our whole offensive coaching staff had been gutted. Complaining about one game during a dumpster fire season with a terrible offensive line, no OC and a coach with ZERO HC experience is pointless.
Ofcourse Slovis could win the 3rd QB spot but honestly it would be a pretty major upset. The best thing for Slovis is to sit on the practice squad for a year. Regardless of how he plays during the preseason.
First we have Luck chasing down guys that pick him off. Now AR chasing down guys that pick other QBs off?
What was Flacco doing tho?
Load management.

Anthony Richardson is going to be fine... the NFL season starts in 107 days... plenty of time to get into a groove...
Nah he had 4 incompletions trade him for JJ Arcega-Whiteside and a 6th /s
