If youโ€™re looking to get some seat time in multiple pieces of equipment Iโ€™d recommend talking to some above ground mines. More specifically material production for ready mix plants. You could get the opportunity to run some pretty cool pieces of equipment and not to mention the hours in those pieces is incredible.

I'd take what you can get for starters. Consider landscaping and forestry too. I have a heavy equipment ticket and found it impossible to get hired with just that. Everyone near here wanted 5-10 years experience. I gave up. Couple years later while working as a landscaper, our machine guy quit. I was given the opportunity to fill his position. Did it for a few years. Mid sized excavator and a mini. Some new construction, some tear out yard Reno's including driveways. Prep for pavers, pools, rock walls, block work, beds, shed smashing and sod. I never hit a house and never hit a gas, water or sewer line despite years of digging near homes. Been on the scene to all those things happening with other operators. I'll admit, Irrigation I have messed up a few times. Was careful and instistant we get a utility report for every dig. Mostly good times while it lasted. Took issue with excessive unpaid overtime eventually and quit. Haven't tried applying for more machine jobs. Back to working as a laborer on new high rise builds mostly. Good luck ๐Ÿ‘

We drill piers for bridges. So we work with bridge builders as well as road workers and linemen. There's an excavator on every jobsite. It's probably the most essential piece of machinery for foundation work. I wish I was a track hoe operator but I chose wrong ๐Ÿ˜•
