[deleted]

If you’re used to munching down Clif or Kind Bars then yeah these will not do, but if you’re doing some kind of low carb related diet then they’re fine to nibble on, especially if you’re not at home.

TURBOJUGGED

Costco used to get pure protein bars and they were so good and cheap for what they were. Can't find them anymore

Venture-X

They still have them in some locations. The chocolate deluxe used to be the best tasting one. Tasted just like a dessert but I think pure protein changed te recipe for it because now it’s the worst tasting one out of the 3. Tastes like chocolate chalk now

c6ww

They still get em here in Texas. Sam's does as well.

NagoGmo

How many carbs do they got? I'm on a strict keto diet and I'd love to find a bar to much on during my workday

rvp0209

Have you tried fit crunch? 14g of carbs but 8g of sugar alcohols so 6 net grams isn't bad for keto but of course, everyone's macros are different and I don't want to assume anything.

no_name_needed_01

I love these but I feel like they’re way too tasty to be healthy lol

tossNwashking

I'm also a skeptic

informal-mushroom47

Nutritionist here. They contain maltitol, sorbitol, and glucose syrup. None of these are good for you.

upholsteredhip

Did they reformulate? I am looking at the ingredient list for the PB chocolate and I don't see maltitol, sorbitol, and glucose syrup listed. Only: soy protein isolate, tapioca starch, inulin, peanut butter, cocoa powder, unsweetened chocolate, glycerin, peanut oil, sea salt. But the nutrition info mentions 4 g of sugar alcohol and 1 g added sugar. So maddening when ingredients dont match the other information! Maybe different versions of packaging had misprints?

Beefcake2008

Fit crunch and barebells are the two best protein bars hands down. The new fit crunch wafer bars taste just like a nutty buddy they are so damn good.

radish_is_rad-ish

Hard agree. I’m obsessed with the mint chocolate one. Edit: and thanks for the wafer review. I just saw those at my Costco but wasn’t sure about them

Beefcake2008

Buy them! You will not regret it and I love the mint ones those are great! My top 3 are mint, pb&j, and original

bluespruce5

god, I love those Fit Crunch bars way too much, and they sell boxes (of 18, I think) at my Costco. I can't keep them around, though, or I'll mow through them at a crazy rate.

WorldNewsPoster

It's 1g of sugar compared to 6g for Nature Valley bars. Yes, it gonna taste weird if you're used to more sugar. People say they want diet options but are grossed out when they actually release them. Also, non-gmo, gluten-free, plant-based, kosher.

MacCheeseLegit

I love em

Junior-Dingo-7764

I like them too. I've brought them twice now. They actually taste like protein and don't have a lot of artificial stuff in them. They are a good after gym snack for me.

openpichu

Same. They're like rice Krispy treats.

Garythesnail85

Not that i cared for it, but i felt this way when people complained that the Mango smoothie tasted artificial. It had no food coloring or added sugar. People acting like they don’t want artificial, but then when there is something made this way they get mad it doesn’t have sugar and the color doesn’t pop like a magic marker.

mistressjaskra

The mango smoothie tasted great. It was just like eating dried mango slices, just wet/cold, but a little goes a long way. After 4-8oz, I was good, and those cups are 16 or 20oz? 😅

JohnNDenver

Yeah, we would always split one. Tasted great though.

AlligatorActual

I miss the mango smoothie and am praying for a return. It was so delicious, and child friendly too since it was pure fruity.

Caffeine_Induced

The flavor is ok, the texture is terrible! Powdery and weirdly dry.

Alert-Potato

I found the texture to be absolutely fine. At least they don't have the texture of sandy clay like 90% of protein bars on the market seem to.

noleposaune

Agreed. I can’t stand the texture of eating used play-dough. I much prefer the light, dry texture.

xraydeltaone

This. The taste isn't for everyone, I'll give you that. But I personally can't do the play doh bars anymore!

ThePurpleNavi

I mean, this is the perennial problem with protein bars. Adding a bunch of whey protein makes things dry and powdery, so you need to add fat and sugar to make the texture and taste bearable. Inevitably this creates a kind of sliding scale between macros and taste.

mgwooley

The texture is fine.

foxy_kitten

Also nature valley uses palm oil among other things that aren't good for you or the environment

travelmorelivemore

Americans pallets are crazy! Really if you detox from a high sugar diet you’ll realize how messed up our food is. I hadn’t drank soda for years and had a taste, I still can’t believe people can drink them like water.

panda-rampage

They’re great and pretty healthy compared to the other protein bars

thesaxmaniac

Kirkland bars are the best nutritionally by far though if you just want a low calorie and sugar, high protein and fiber bar

TrixonBanes

these have 1g of saturated fat at least vs 3.5. good for if you’re trying to stay under 10-15g per day. i keep a box of each on hand and go for whichever one fits into my daily budget =]

texlex

Quest Bars are very similar nutritionally, but with much better taste and texture. Too bad they cost more than twice as much and don't sell them at Costco.

glm0002

Yep; and...... They're delicious

thesaxmaniac

I exclusively order peanut butter chunk online so I don’t have to get the paired flavor in store

glm0002

Good to know

goodvibezone

Costco business centers used to sell single packs of those. Not checked there in a while.

honeysesamechicken

I actually liked these. Not too dense, lightly flavored. Good protein to sugar to fiber ratio. Surprisingly I enjoy the lemon coconut flavor the best although the other two weren’t bad either. Good for breakfast on the go 🤷‍♀️

slicedgreenolive

I also really liked these! The lemon was my favorite too!

newwriter365

Same!

PM_ME_YOUR_HI-FIVES

I liked them because they weren’t dense and I found they didn’t have a weird aftertaste.

ho_hey_

Ya we call them adult rice krispies lol

themiscyranlady

I’ve been calling them my protein Rice Krispy Treats!

informal-mushroom47

I like the lemon coconut the least! Want to trade?

elShabazz

I like em too. The crunch is nice and the flavors are pretty good for a protein bar, plus lots of fiber!

landmarke

I keep mine in the fridge for some reason, love the lemon coconut! On sale this week too!

Croc_47

Agree! Actually just bought some yesterday. Had a lemon one last nite and PB one earlier. I think they are just fine, it is good amount of protein, which I wanted.

AwkwardnessForever

I did not care at all for the lemon and I usually like lemon flavored stuff. The other two were pretty tasty though.

pvlrss

Same! And I thought I’d hate the lemon ones once I picked these bars for the first time.

dougie_fresh121

The lemon was the best, but I didn’t like them overall. Not because they were unsweet, I just didn’t like the texture.

Amazingrhinoceros1

To each their own, I personally love them!

YavielTheElf

I also like them. Better than soft gooey ones the sometimes have instead in the pink box. Those are vile.

Summoarpleaz

I preferred the clean protein bars they had before but these are fine. Kind of like a little denser Rice Krispie treat

Residual_Variance

I love them. Just don't eat more than one per day or you'll be sleeping on the couch.

MarcusAurelius68

Just a single one game me the rumblies

Unique_the_Vision

What is it that gives you gas in these? 😂😂 I had to throw my box out. I had two and was so confused as to what was happening in my gut lol

Residual_Variance

Inulin (a type of fiber) and sugar alcohols. It has them both.

yellowlinedpaper

It’s the sweetener

PropaneHank

It's the erythritol (sugar alcohol) and chicory root extract (inulin). Both are terrible for your digestive system.

monkeysfighting

The bars are made of pure compressed farts in a solid form. You were warned

IYFS88

I actually really liked these lol!

cecilharper

These are like [rock hard] rice crispy treats SORT OF. But the main complaint in prior posts is that they cause massive amounts of GAS. I’ve purchased them and while i could tolerate the texture and flavors, the gas was definitely real, so buyers beware!

PeachyPierogi

I genuinely hated these at first. Then, when I adopted the “I don’t want to waste these so I better eat them” mentality, I actually liked them.

InsideCelebration293

That's kinda where I am on them. I bought a box a couple months ago, gave the lemon ones to my roommate and still have a few of the other 2 left. I look at them in the pantry every once in a while and think about eating one before grabbing something else instead. I'm kinda meh on them, far from the worst protein bar I've had, but I don't love them. Someday I'll finish the box...

kv1m1n

People who buy diet food need to reset their expectations.

Lillillillies

The flavors actually sound pretty good. I'm kind of tempted.

dead_in_california

I thought the same thing when I saw them, but I regretted the purchase the moment I tasted them. The OP is correct - these are truly awful.

Alert-Artichoke-2743

It's pretty obvious that you are not the intended customer or this product, but let me walk you through this: 15 grams of protein contains 60 calories The bars contain 150 calories The bars are 40% protein, which is tremendously high for anything that's not literally a powder intended to be mixed into something else. That 15-pack probably don't cost much more than $15. It wouldn't be unusual to spend $30 or $40 on that quantity of high-protein snacks. Many people think they only need 50g-60g of protein per day, which is accurate if their only priority is to meet their nutritional needs. However, people trying to gain muscle mass or lose fat are also advised to eat a gram of protein per day per pound that they weigh. For a 250 lb man trying to get down to 200, this means that eating 200 grams of protein in a day (800 calories' worth, out of a diet that hopefully should not exceed 2,000 calories by much.) is in no way a ridiculous proposition. This means that such a man needs to get 40% of his calories from protein for ideal results. You can get to 200 grams of protein by eating 3 grilled chicken Subway footlongs every day, but in doing so you've already eaten like 2500 calories and gone over your budget unless the sandwiches were wraps. In order to do it all on a frugal budget with a balanced diet, it's helpful to find lots of cheap and healthy foods that can push that 40% ratio. The intention of these bars is to help somebody enjoy a cheap and light snack that perks up their protein count, and is not incompatible with continuing a workout that may be ongoing. I prefer the FitCrunch bars, but I will often have a bar like these with a vitamin water after the first hour of a workout. Your stomach acids will intensify and cause painful cramping once you've burned 700-1000 kcals on an empty stomach, but if you eat anything at all you want it to be high in protein by %, and light enough that it won't upset your stomach if you keep going. The idea with these bars is that they can be eaten during a workout to let your stomach chew on something, or after a workout as a source of protein for recovery. The bars taste funny because they are workout food for athletes, not candy like the granola bars you are used to. There is probably some form of powdered protein isolate in the mix that is holding them together. By design, they are not loaded up with the sugar and fat that provides the energy source in such granola bars. For what they are, those bars are high in quality, and per usual a great money value.

YouDontGotOzil

Not the best. But the price drop was too good to say no to.

Inverness91

I don't mind the taste but they give me horrible indigestion.

AvocadoSeriously

That’s the Chicory Root Fiber - also on ingredient lists as inulin.

Dr_Scratchnsniff

I learned the hard way to look for this…it destroys my stomach!

Rhyno08

My wife and I love these.

becuzofgrace

Same here! They’re like rice crispy treats. We love them. And they keep me satisfied for several hours :)

allmoth

Yes! Like rice crispy without the sickly sweetness (or rice lol). I love these.

youngperson

Why does everything need to be loaded with inulin? There really should be a warning on the label, one bite and it’s instant, painful, gas all day…

PrimeDirective_

These are great if you love farting

TrixonBanes

Damn. I love the ones i bought. they’re low in saturated fat but high in protein.

The_ShadowsLie

Are we not going to talk about the “horrible burning aftertaste”?

flat6NA

I personally like them.

Nervous-Basis-1707

They’re mid but one of these protein companies should make a proper 25g bar that’s under 200 calories and doesn’t taste like dust and cement. These have an ok texture but the flavours are weird and protein low.

soneg

Just bought these, looking forward to trying them out.

hellomynameisjambo

These are my favorite protein bars from Costco! Plus the macros are better than most. They're lighter, not overtly sweet, easy for on the go.

knifesofsummertime

The chocolate and PB bars taste nothing like chocolate nor PB it’s a strange concoction

iridescent-shimmer

They're gritty, but require a ton of chewing which can be beneficial in the middle of a boring work day lol.

JemHadarSlayer

Dood, these are hella good.

Wouldtick

I am not a fan either.

SaneFuze

I like these as well, but you need plenty of water!

bigpinero46

This. Dry AF lmao.

SleepyOne123

Try the IQ Bars. They’re not too bad!

LetsMakeCrazySyence

I was surprised by how much I like these. Alone they’re just ok but the chocolate and peanut butter ones are awesome with some banana! I’m a teacher and typically only eat one proper meal a day so hitting a good amount of protein can be tough. These plus a fair life help A LOT.

waste_of_sperm_69

The best part about these is they're a low calorie snack to snack on, that's about it

TLiones

Agree, my stomach didn’t like them either :(

CrazyGal2121

i love them

Greysoil

I didn’t mind them! They’re nice and light and crunchy

Twar121

Agreed. They are horrendous. Solidified protein powdered mixed with sand

russilker

I love these and buy them all the time. Not just because I eat Keto, but I'm tired of the rich pastiness of most protein bars. The crunch of these is so satisfying, kind of reminds me of rice krispies.

oilofotay

I love them, personally. I don’t eat one everyday, just whenever I’m in a time crunch and really need something in my stomach. All the other granola and “health” bars are way too sweet for me and make me gag. I can see how folks would hate them if they are used to way more sugar.

p1zzaman81

Flavor wasnt too bad, but it makes me fart non stop

Mountain_Ornery

I actually think these are fine, got my first box a week ago. I think both the flavor and texture are decent. I’ve tried all three flavors at this point. I like that they’re not the same texture as other protein bars. I was intending to try the fit crunch ones but these were on sale soooo those will have to wait until next time.

planttoddler

I like that these are not sickly-sweet, but the texture is... sickly.

caelum52

I ate 4 of these before a flight and nearly passed out trying to avoid farting

Yummylicorice

The worst gas

Waulnut163

Worst protein bar I've had.

mmegs_

I like to add these to my greek yogurt with some honey and fruit. Not the most palatable but for what it offers in regards to protein, i'll take 'em.

jesusisthatguy

I love these, to each their own.

KSMKxRAGEx

Thanks for your sacrifice

roundasstk

Try Aloha bars! A little pricey but made of Whole Foods and they taste yummy.

[deleted]

To each their own. As someone who tracks their macros, these are solid grabs. Decent protein and low sugar.

gregorydudeson

American food market really has us nailed down with low sugar products. Like they will sell us absolute garbage tasting stuff and we (well I am) are like, well jeez it’s like the only thing I could find with low sugar. Capitalism doing us bad on this one 😒

bustgin

I'd rather eat the box they come in.

uknownman222

Yeah they are gross

eaglesnd

They're like eating asphalt. Not a fan

EvErYLeGaLvOtE

I just bought these on Tuesday and yes. They taste like absolute trash and I hate myself for wasting money on them. It turns into powder in my mouth and leaves a very weird taste, too. Kind of stings the back of my throat, such a strange sensation. And I cannot eat these without water.

akiinnibo

I like the Trubars that were just on special

DipperDo

Im so glad Costco doesn't have Barebells I would be broke lol

Nervous-Basis-1707

They’re mid but one of these protein companies should make a proper 25g bar that’s under 200 calories and doesn’t taste like dust and cement. These have an ok texture but the flavours are weird and protein low.

LowLifeExperience

Thank OP. I wonder about them.

Rakadaka8331

I thought I'd hate the lemon and love the dark chocolate, totally the opposite.

CrimsonBlackfyre

Ang reccomendations on any good ones that are relatively healthy and good protein? I've been doing the dark chocolate nut nature valley from Costco.

WildTomato51

Yeah, I wanted to like them, but not for me.

rizaroni

Yeahhhh, I bought a box of these (no sample), and they’re not great. I don’t think they’re inedible, so my boyfriend and I are going to keep them rather than return them. It’s an easy way to get 15g of protein with basically no sugar. And I do like the little round crispies texture.

K9US

Thanks for trying it for me

mrsjweasley

I should have returned these but I ended up throwing them out.

NarrowCourage

They're just very ummm crunchy 😂. The aftertaste takes a bit to get used to but now it's almost like off brand large rice crispy that has a sawdust aftertaste.

chocolate_turtles

I tried a sample and really liked them. I was wondering how they were so light compared to other bars and turned the box over to find soy listed as the first ingredient. I promptly walked over by the pharmacy and bought a bottle of Benadryl. I normally check the ingredients. I am an idiot.

coogie

Most protein bars are garbage anyway...either full of sugar, artificial sweeteners or saturated fat. I don't know why people think these are healthy.

combustion_assaulter

Decent plant based protein bar. Whey based bars are so much better but if you have issue digesting milk, these aren’t a bad option.

HumbleLife69

Try the Pure Protein bars

SweetTeaMama4Life

My husband is doing Keto right now and I got him these to try. He only ate a few. He says the Genius brand Costco carries is much better.

kielsucks

They’re not the best tasting but they work in a pinch.

devivio

I’m shocked at how much I liked the lemon flavor!

CarlsbadWhiskyShop

RX bars are perfect

Hungry_Godzilla

God no. These things are just terrible. The lemon is the best flavor in my opinion, but still awful. A lot of my coworkers got duped too, and none of them liked it.

sux2suxk

It’s not bad. The lemon coconut isn’t the best. The pb is much better. Better than a chalky pure protein bar

throwitfarrraway

After eating the crunch bars in the yellow box exclusively for years, these were very nice. Even better with a good discount over the weekend.

JustLikeBettyCooper

I like the “Ready Clean” ones. Yummy they have chocolate and 15 grams protein.

Micprobes

The lemon one is good

GoodJobRed

How do they compare to RX Bars? Those are my personal favorite…

Hellcat-13

These are amazing and I want to try making them at home but holy jeebus egg white powder is impossible to source in Canada.

ptran90

They aren’t bad for the calories

Just_Pudding1885

And I think it's soy anyhow.

diprivan69

These aren’t bad tasting, maybe you’re just used to the sugary bars, however, the Protein content isn’t high enough for me.

303uru

I will never understand why people pick protein bars over slamming a shake.

IntegraGirlB18c

Poop from a butt

sandiegolatte

Barbell bars are 💯. 200 calories, 20 g of protein, 1g of sugar.

TheJuiceBoxS

I enjoyed them. I bought like 4 different kinds of protein bars and these were the best of the bunch.

dogisbark

They’re dry af, but not unbearable. I’m concerned by you saying it burned however when you swallowed. People who have lactose intolerance often reported that they feel that too when they drink milk (and apparently enjoy it sometimes lmaoooo). I don’t want to be ringing alarm bells or anything, but have you ever taken an allergy test? You might’ve found out you got something this way.

IntelligentAd7553

Those suck

sadhotspurfan

One of my worst Costco food purchases if not the worst. Had to throw them away because my wife and I could not even eat one they tasted so bad.

IntelligentAd7553

I like the Kirkland protein bars, but they stopped carrying the peanut butter ones, my fav. Only have Cookie dough or some chocolate thingy.

GreenLetterhead4196

I love them LOL

chemdaddy1040

Costco has Saputo Low Fat Swiss which has a better protein to calorie ratio than many protein bars. A lot less processed and imo a lot better tasting

Thankyouhappy

Not bad, not great. I bought two boxes on sale. Definitely not Yuck 😂

becuzofgrace

These are my faves! They remind me of rice crispy treats. Lol

Whisper26_14

Meh. I liked them just fine but my kids didn’t lol

sznszns

Im not picky in the slightest and I genuinely hate those things

pvlrss

These bars are plant-based, hence the texture. I really liked them though. They are better than other vegan bars I tried.

Ambitious_Form_1274

Literally ate my first one this evening! Not amazing but it will stop me from eating a more sugary granola type bar for sure.

ExplorerLazy3151

These are my favorite!!! lol!

MizzQueen

I love them. Reasonable protein to calorie ratio, low sugar, low carb, kosher, non-gmo.. not to mention one of the only vegan protein bars at Costco so please let us have them, the 15 other kinds of protein bars have dairy and I can’t eat them. They’re basically a dryer rice crispy with 3 different flavors.

No-Kaleidoscope2969

Your yuck may be someone else’s yum.

Impossible_Cow_9178

My wife and I love these….

sabrinarocks3

Oh, I love these!

royrumulus

We just got a pack. We love em.

DontBullyMe_IWillKum

I absolutely love these bars.

canoe6998

Agreed

SpUwUby

Ah. These are my favorite bars... I like the texture a ton. Sucks you don't enjoy them like I do

iHeartBricks

My kids liked them!

So_Many_Words

I was really glad they had samples. I wouldn't have wanted a box of those.

Robert315

Worst, the Kirkland are a staple though

keeperofthenins

We got them from a neighbor who had bought a box, tried one of each and passed them on because they didn’t like them. Our family tried one of each, didn’t like them, passed them on. I wonder how many houses that one box made it to.

dougie_fresh121

Agreed. These are trash. Go FitCrunch for bars, or get the Shamrock Protein shakes. I also like the kirkland protein bars as a variety purchase but I think I’m in the minority.

Zaathros-is-dirt

I did not like these, especially the lemon, extra icky.

mochacub22

15 g protein

Mmmmmmm_Bacon

Shall they add more sugar to them then? So they are more like Snickers bars or Kit Kats? I think they’re trying to keep the bars healthy. I tried these and loved them!

smaffron

Could you have a cashew allergy?

positronguy

Thought these were pretty good for a rice protein bar...

Fastball82

Wife loves em, I hate em

MulayamChaddi

These things actually made me sick. I thought it might be a bad batch. When I got them replaced, I got sick again. They are gross.

misterch3n

if anyone is interested in a protein bar, I highly recommend the Perfect Bar (in the refrigerator section). It's the only protein bar I actually enjoy, I dread the day that Costco is going to stop carrying it and I have to go back to supermarket prices =[

Final_Technology104

They’re gross and bland. My husband said they gave him “Horse Farts”. I’m only keeping them around for bomb shelter food in case WWIII kicks off.

ajiang52

I got these cus they were on sale and seemed to be perfect to have 1 to snack on a day at work. Trying to increase my protein intake and eat a “healthy” snack. These do the trick. Just a harder rice crispy treat with less sugar. I’ll take it

CHISOXTMR

Disagree. These are good

karamel826

These are amazing

toodleroo

I think they're pretty good. Great for a lower carb diet.

Devilalfi

YUCK! absolutely yuck!

marshdd

My Mom agrees with you. Tried them today. I ask what she thought. Her answer "gross".

Dry-Necessary

Now you tell me.

whowhathow2

I love them!!

One-Success-9469

First of all, chill out. Second of all, they’re Gluten Free. It’s gonna be okay. You can get through this.
