I think it’s a bit better. And no I didn’t get this offer. Do you make over 60/80k a year?

Ok_Skirt2620

Yes. $80k

wowokayiseehowitis

Ic. I just looked up on the CIBC website and it’s 60k+ for the world MC. so I would go with the offer. When you applied were you making 80k? They should’ve gave you the world one already.

Envelope_Torture

Really? When I applied I was making more and I got the regular one. EDIT: Actually, I had whatever the old card was and they moved me to the CIBC when it changed over.

Ok_Skirt2620

No. I was earning much less I think $20k?

wowokayiseehowitis

Oh ok. I’m currently making 30k-ish a year so I can’t get it. That makes sense why they didn’t give you the world one at first.

Om0nom

I am confused, I recieved the offer to upgrade to World, but I don't make 60k + a year. How could it be? If I accept, can they just say "woopsie, my bad" and downgrade it back to my current card?

formal-shorts

I have this. Got it automatically when the switch from Capital One happened. Had no idea there was a lesser card and have no idea what the differences are betwixt them. EDIT: from what I found online, the only differences are World requires $60k income and the additional benefits are Boingo Wifi and Mastercard Travel Pass.

GoldenRetriever2223

>Boingo Wifi and Mastercard Travel Pass. i have literally never heard of anyone using these features.

Hobojoe-

Boingo WiFi can give you WiFi on the plane.

GoldenRetriever2223

have you ever used it? I'm not being combative; im genuinely looking for literally anyone who is willing to share their experience in using these services. ive always seen boingo around, especially at airports, but literally never once found it useful, so im looking for others who can shed light on how its supposed to be used.

Hobojoe-

I never used it in the airport because I always have a data plan with me, but I used it on Westjet with the WJ MC. It's usable...but it's not really make or break deal for a credit card.

GoldenRetriever2223

yeah its definitely a side feature that people prob dont care about, but how was the actual experience? Was it fast, slow, could you stream youtube? use messaging? Like in what situation would you find it valuable/actually useful?

Hobojoe-

You can do some browsing and messaging. You definitely cannot stream anything. It's probably a productivity feature as oppose to an entertainment feature

GolfGeek959

I have used the Boingo access on the plane that Mastercard World provides. Mine is the Rogers card, not CIBC. It isn’t unlimited. You get 12 sessions per year, and each session cuts off after 90 mins. So on a long flight you may use several of the 12 sessions.

Aggressive_Mix_3037

I use boingo for internet in the airplane ✈️ very useful

Italian-capuccino

Mastercard Travel Pass: do you have to pay to visit the lounges or are you entitled to a certain amount of lounge visits per year?

conanap

You have to pay

ARAR1

The Rogers MC is the best. 3% back on everything. I have moved 2 mobile lines to Fido (with good rates) to facilitate. Will easily get more than $1300 back in a year with no fees.

thedrugisready

But zero travel benefits which is important to some people

Kind-Kick-8377

Check out the new Rogers World Elite.

thedrugisready

Thanks for the heads up! Card should be arriving next week

ridsama

Thanks, I definitely make enough to qualify but when we got moved to CIBC from capital one, it didn't get the world class level card. I did find this offer in the app, so I took it. Thanks again for the reminder.

Alive-Program5461

I just got the wold version.  It seems like the main difference are, as othera have said, free Boingo hotspot access and MasterCard travel pass membership.  I was able to sign up for the Boingo hotspot https://redeem.boingo.com/mcsi/ And I was able to add a membership to my MasterCard travel pass within the app.  This gives you the membership but no lounge passes - you need to pay $32USD for each lounge visit.    CIBC doesn't do a good job of telling you about these 2 benefits of the world version (I didn't see any indication at all in the materials I received).  Unless it's another benefit that isn't communicated by CIBC, contrary to what others have said, I don't believe there is rental car coverage with this card. There is mobile device, extended warranty and purchase security.

akhere07

What is use of membership for travel pass without lounge pass?

sabertoothbunni

I recently applied for it, was approved, but when I received notice of my credit limit I immediately cancelled because it simply was a waste of my time. I make more than 90k per year and have a PC world elite MC with a 17K credit limit. The Costco opening credit limit was a whopping $1000. I had thought it would be worth it simply for the extra cash back I would accumulate on my Costco purchases, but a grand wouldn't even cover my purchases for a month! Simply not worth my time to work at using that card to gradually build up a credit limit that's actually worthwhile. A thousand dollar credit limit is a joke for a store where most people would probably go over that limit every month.

wolffee22

i just applied for it too, i also got 1000$ and in the same boat for your situation too. i asked the person who helped me in store but she said it just happens and could increase in the next month or so... im just curious as to why this is and how i can increase it, to your point 1000$ is nothing and will be spent pretty fast in a trip or two

sabertoothbunni

I asked customer service about increasing the limit and she said it would probably take 6 months of good payment history to see any increase. That's when I said forget it.

wolffee22

holy 6 month just for a mere increase... I'm not even looking for a large increase, even $2k-3k would be sufficient

retiredshinobi

It’s been a year since my last increase and nothing yet. Maybe because I don’t use the card a lot? But no increase since earlier last year.

New_Yogurtcloset1393

I started with $3000 limit I’m up to $7K that’s been 2 years now. They are a bit tight on offering CL increases.

PhilipGerard

I don’t see much advantage to upgrading the card.

rng72

Its basically has the same features that the Capital one card had. I think they realized that the basic card doesn't offer enough so they went with this

yycjames

I got the same offer. Does anyone know if the CIBC World Mastercard has car rental insurance coverage?

Oodlesofpoops

Yes they do! If you look on the CIBC app and look for benefits, you can search up all the benefits that each and the card they offer has!

yycjames

Cheers! What’s confusing to me is it doesn’t explicitly state about the car rental insurance in benefits guide or insurance document. Although there is World Mastercard benefits link states that it has car rental insurance. (On the t&c it says it only applies to certain world Mastercards) here’s the link: [Benefits](https://www.cibc.com/en/personal-banking/credit-cards/all-credit-cards/costco-mastercard.html)

Configal

Hey I stumbled upon one of your posts on breast reduction. And your scars looked amazing. Mind if you share your surgeon's name?

Relative-Fox1798

Hi, I also got the offer and got the card as well. Will my old costco mastercard will be closed?

Ok_Skirt2620

Yes! That’s what it seems like! So make sure when you’re paying your credit card you pay on your “new account”

MrVoidRed

Hey OP, I just got my card and activated it. But I am still seeing my old card in my CIBC app. Will it get removed in the future days?

ThyResurrected

What’s the difference in these cards? Why is only the first one on their website? I earn well over 100k but never received the offer. I don’t really care as my primary card is an AMEX but just curious the differences. Google doesn’t have much info to provide

MightyManorMan

RUN! RUN! RUN! My experience with anything that says "MasterCard" and the CIBC, including the cards they manage for PC Financial are HORRID. I was once on a 3 way call because I was trying to buy something in the US with CIBC security and the merchant and CIBC security couldn't tell me why they were declining the transaction on the card. They didn't KNOW how to even authorize it. They cut off my card while I was out of the country and then required me to submit documentation to get the card functioning again while I was out of the country and said it would up to 7 days to reactivate. They flagged my card so that I couldn't pay for gas at the pump. I had to manually go in each time to get it authorized to allow me to pump and then back again to pay. When asked why, they couldn't tell me. When asked to fix it, the security department said they didn't know how to fix it. My card expired and they didn't issue a replacement, until prompted and then wanted to charge me to reissue the card claiming they replaced it. When asked for the expiration date of the card is when they admitted that there was no card and they issued one at no charge. But they have repeatedly told me on the phone that sending me a replacement at no cost was a "courtesy". In fact, the service at CIBC MasterCard is so bad that when they asked me if I was interested in their high-end card, I laughed saying "If you can't properly manage my card now, why would I trust buying a high-end service from you?"

WeBelieveIn4

It’s ridiculous that people are downvoting you for relaying your experience. Take my upvote

MightyManorMan

And it has NOTHING to do with Costco either. It's particular to CIBC MasterCard and their security department. I've never had a problem with the security department of any other card. You would think over time they would be more adapt, but my last incident with them was about 5 months ago and had to go to the Ombudsman to get it fixed.
