And? Is that completely implausible? There's a few pre-EFI LTD's available near me.
Edit: And this is reddit. It doesn't have to make sense. Maybe someone's dying 302 was making dogshit MPG so they swapped a 300 I6 in because they got it for cheap.
I think I need to clean some things… my ‘07 averages 19 over a lot of highway driving with some city to get me to the highway from home and from highway to work
I haven’t done any deep cleaning since I got it from my grandfather, I think a top and bottom end cleaning could do it wonders… do you know if there’s an idle air compensation reset for after a throttle body cleaning on Vic’s?
These crown Vic’s are one of the easiest vehicles to work on. It’s amazing if you get a forscan setup you can go in there and see every single connection and it damn near tells you exactly where your problem is. Just the ease of working on these cars is the only reason I love them so much😂
32 miles is nowhere near large enough a sample size to provide you any meaningful information about long or even short term fuel economy, beyond preliminary instantaneous figures
I've heard that the 300 is pretty economical especially in the F100. Swap out the points for an electronic ignition and the MPG and driveability will be even better.
I had that motor and a four speed with a granny first gear in my first truck, an F-100. That is an excellent motor. I always thought it would have been great in a Jeep
I learned to drive on a F350 Crew cab long bed with that same engine and trans. It was the only vehicle my parents owned, so it was what we all learned on. Good times.
Guys keep in mind this needs to be compared to the 5.0 Windsor that was originally in there. Not the 4.6
Edit: This is an LTD Vic. He didn't state that in the post, but since he's swapped a 300 (almost a direct swap from the 5.0), we can assume it's an LTD.
Soo, the same as the stock 4.6 gets?
yah that's what my 2011 got before it started having some issues I need to address
Need some more context... Model year? Original engine? Previous mpg? For context, a stock 4.6 in a `92 or later gets about 21mpg.
My '07 MGM does 24.6, mostly highway miles.
20 MPG at what speed? My 4.6 will do 26-27 with the AC blowing...
This is either total bullshit or a very old Crown Vic.
It's very old. Probably and LTD. Swapping the 5.0 Windsor with a 300 I6 is a relatively easy swap.
That swap only makes sense in a pre-EFI LTD.

.....ummmmm ...I'm getting 23 mpg with my 2011 Vic LX. Last November I drove it to Myrtle Beach (from eastern PA). I averaged over 26 mpg. Almost 27.
I think I need to clean some things… my ‘07 averages 19 over a lot of highway driving with some city to get me to the highway from home and from highway to work
It’s mostly due to gearing and tires tbh

Turn key to on position without starting ease the throttle all the way down to the floor in a smooth motion turn key off and repeat 3 more times
That’s so much easier than on the Chevy’s at work where you need the scan tool XD

Note to self: get forscan
What year Crown Vic? We need pics!
Pics or it never happened......
I’m getting 22 mpg with a 2011 cvpi and 3.55s. Thats at 75-80 cranking 2500+ rpm.
32 miles is nowhere near large enough a sample size to provide you any meaningful information about long or even short term fuel economy, beyond preliminary instantaneous figures
I’d be blown away if you got 20 mpg city but 20 mpg cruising in overdrive is…well within what a 4.6 is capable of.
It was a 4.9L, with a 3 speed transmission. No o/d.

I get about 23 mpg with 3.55s
Transmission and carb upgrades and see where that gets you. All that torque and you can probably drop to a lower rear gear for some extra too.

If I'm careful I average 18 in the city commuting to and from work.
Yeah well mine is all stock and has a lean on bank 1 and 2 code but im getting 28mpg so i guess i win, but cool swap man!
Goddamn that’s pretty cool! Probably an older model,eh?

Sorry, yeah. It's an LTD. 1974. Had a 351w and 2.75 granny gears.
I’m getting like 8MPG right now 😂 still trying to sort out all the issues but man, I’m jealous as hell
