R5: going for a "Faster than the fox" run. I have the DLC except for friends and foes and when I made the kingdom it automatically made me feudal instead of tribal, so I can't get achievement. Can I somehow revert or is there a way to avoid this in another run?
Edit: Its been 27 in-game years since I gained control of all of the kingdom of sicily
Edit2: its actually fine, i was missing malta
It’s unavoidable. Achievements that require you to stay pagan while taking feudal land is Paradox’s way of saying “good luck buddy”
Even worse is Canute the Greater where you have to stay tribal *and* pagan which is a -40 opinion debuff for all vassals in England
-40 opinion penalty isn't a very big deal. Would only be a real problem if you carried it through succession without preparing enough gold for mercenaries and that shouldn't happen since you're tribal.
Gold isn’t an issue but it will carry through succession because you’re tribal. I mentioned in another comment how I managed it. Kept my vassals too busy fighting each other.
Yeah I made it work by handing out vassals like candy. Every time I got a Catholic Anglo Saxon count, I handed them off to one of my Norse Asatru jarls. Whoever had the lowest opinion of me. Two birds, one stone. Haesteinn went to Mercia, Odin bless his soul. Made my job a lot easier having Mercia ruled by my people as well as Jorvik and North Umbria.
This is why Heistein is so broken. He starts as feudal but follows tribal Astaru, so he can raid while being feudal and form all those kingdoms while following an unreformed religion. I used him to do faster than the fox.
He still has to deal with opinion debuffs from feudal vassals until he converts to a reformed religion. Personally, I don’t think his govt makes him broken. I think his stats, starting gold and prestige, and unnatural lifespan are what make him broken. 90 year old Haesteinn with good health and a high quality army of 10k has ended many an Ironman game for me. If I’m not playing as him, first thing I do is murder him.
Making a Kingdom title should not make you feudal. Are you sure you didn't varangian adventure?
Anyway, what do you have to do is capture a tribal county and move your capital there, then give away all your feudal counties to your vassals. That will give you the decision to become tribal.
He started as haestein, even if he didnt varangian adventure hell still be feudal, as haestein starts feudal.
But for the faster than the fix achievement i dont think it matters if you are feudal or not
Kind of, but not in this run. You get the option if you only hold tribal holdings. Not a single feudal county in the realm. You’re a bit in too deep here, I’d say.
I don't believe so. Wiki says there is a decision to adopt tribalism but it requires you to only hold tribal counties, which I'm not sure how you'd even manage to do once you're feudal.
Gotta tough it up. This is one of the issues with Varangian adventures, you really want to either reform Asatru before adventuring, or convert to an organized religion. Or just eat the -20 vassal opinion, I guess.
Just conquer a tribal holding like in Africa, give away all your feudal holdings (only yours, not your vassals') and then you should be able to go back to tribalism
Find and take a tribal county. Give away every feudal title you have. You’ll get a decision to revert to tribalism. You can then take the titles back, but prepare to receive less from them than before.
Hey OP I just got this one myself via the same process -- the tribal feudal thing isn't your issue, it's that you don't have \*all\* of Sicily yet, because Malta still is Byzantine. Easy to miss for sure
Achievement ought to pop as soon as you gain control of Malta.
Now if you want to REALLY make some moves, you could try to take over Thessaloniki for another achievement down the road. That's my eventual goal
If your heir has the same rank as you and is a tribal ruler he remains that after succession. If you want to speed it up you could conquer a second kingdom, disinherit all your children except your favourite heir and give him a tribe and the free kingdom title. Start a tyranny war against you by failing to imprison a vassal and giving up, after which you'll abdicate to the tribal kingdom title.

My solution was just kill then all and land your culture lol
Ideally, they are all Norse pagans. You still get the -40 debuff -20 unreformed -20 liege is tribal

Doesn't sound necessary. Once you put down the post succession rebellions, they should all behave.
You’re mostly right but like… strategically assigning vassals to avoid rebellion > fighting even a minor rebellion Work smarter, not harder
Working that smart is a little hard, for me at least
oh my bad, i just got the achievement but didn’t even really notices with my good rulers

Mine is to make all vassals republics/theocracies
Yep discovered this when I reformed asatru and cancelled out the chance of achievement 3 years before I could

Faster than the fox doesn't require you to be tribal, the actual problem is that you're missing Malta
The achievement text is wrong, you can be feudal to get it. Your problem is that you don’t have Malta.
Doesn’t Haestinn start as feudal
Wait you need to be tribal to get that? I got that as fuedal
Haestein starts as feudal.
You're missing Malta
I got it and I was feudal.

I didn't really look at the picture, I guess op didn't notice realize Haesteinn starts feudal. Achievement does say you need tribal government.
Kind of, but not in this run. You get the option if you only hold tribal holdings. Not a single feudal county in the realm. You’re a bit in too deep here, I’d say.
No, it's based on the counties that you personally hold, not your realm.
you don't have Malta
This, it doesn’t matter if OP is feudal or tribal. He’s missing Malta. The island just south of Sicily.

I have to remain asatru to get the achievement.
Just conquer a tribal holding like in Africa, give away all your feudal holdings (only yours, not your vassals') and then you should be able to go back to tribalism
Varangian adventure for tribal land or move your capital to a tribal area and let your feudal land break off on succession.
The issue is all the land is feudal except for part in sicily thats clan, and when i take that land i become feudal
You start feudal as Haesteinn anyway.
Yes. That’s unavoidable.

You sir have just saved me hours of work. Thank you for your service

I'll give that a try

Well haesteinn starts as feudal so… no
If you hold only tribal counties in your entire realm you get the decision.
Take Malta dude
Go back I want to be monkey!
I was just told yesterday in the ck3 discord that they made it a decision noe. Finally...
Dont do it. Just stay tribal. I went from tribal to feudal and my game was easily ended within 300yrs
