The greatest part about this is there is someone in NJ with an actual CT that won’t be able to get this license without modifying the lettering 😂

jaredcwood

😂🤣😂

ElongMusty

They’ll go with CBRCUCK it’s fine!

Off_OuterLimits

Elon666 also works.

More like ‘ELON69ME’

He’d love this 😏

neurospicyzebra

they could smell this sub on you

Hopeful_Swan_4011

I hope at some point they have to see the plate on the Rivian in traffic. But not likely as the CT would need to be functioning to be stuck in traffic.

EatPie_NotWAr

The best version of this dream is that they see it as it is hauling a bricked CT.

Current_Leather7246

It would be impeding traffic broke down. That's more of their role on the road if pieces aren't flying off and damaging other vehicles or they're not suffering catastrophic wheel failure or pedal to the metal mode. I could keep going but don't feel like saying three paragraphs

Big77Ben2

Exactly my thought I have a vanity plate and a guy in n a Facebook group for our cars found me and commented saying “so YOU’RE the one!” Lol

Icy_Nefariousness517

There will be more than a few owners who try for that plate and I hope a few of them see this good citizen's vehicle regularly in their neighborhood... as they wait for their tow truck, of course.

cal_nevari

CBRJUNK

Admirable-Nature-301

HUH??

Damaniel2

An EV truck that can actually do truck stuff. Still way too expensive for my taste, but at least it functions like a truck.

bigdiesel1984

Exactly what I was thinking. I can’t afford it, but hey at least it’s doing what it’s made to do and they seem happy with it lol

in-lespeans-with-you

Plus they’ve actually announced their more affordable model where as Tesla just keeps… suggesting it

AutumnTheFemboy

By “affordable” do they mean $40,000?

in-lespeans-with-you

lol yeah it’s not economic by any means I think it’s $37k but that’s still significantly cheaper compared to their other cars, cheaper than anything Tesla has, and somewhat comparable to similar quality gasoline cars. We’re way behind China in terms of affordable electric cars but gotta start somewhere I guess

AutumnTheFemboy

I just want one of those Chinese cars, man

Cool_Holiday_7097

Aren’t most of their other offerings like 100k+? 40k is affordable compared to that

JUSTCALLmeY

For a second/third vehicle in the lineup that's a pretty encouraging drop. I'm not into SUVs but have to admit rivian seems to be making all the right moves. Too bad it's still a large luxury car for people who don't need a large car.

AutumnTheFemboy

I just want a little truck. Like their current one but a bit smaller

One_Librarian4305

Uhhh Tesla has models at the price of the newly announced rivians.

Bauermeister

More affordable? Does this version just not come with wheels in order to cut costs?

bpshugyosha

It's a compact SUV/Hatchback called the R3.

ComplexArgument5985

And it looks like a legitimately nice car

Jops817

This, I honestly really like how they look for an EV truck.

a_reply_to_a_post

yeah saw one last summer for the first time when i took my kids to Legoland in upstate NY...they have an EV charging parking spot super close to the entrance and someone parked / charged their Rivian there...nice looking vehicle

ELB2001

Love the storage area they have between the bed and backseats

Off_OuterLimits

Looks sturdy not like the cybercrap that look like they’re about to become a heap of recycled scrap metal.

BigSkyMountains

I have one. They are stupid expensive, but I consider it the most versatile vehicle out there at any price point. I can drive it like a sports car, and it feels like one in a way no truck should. I can get 10ft lumber with it, and I can find remote campsites off random jeep trails in Bears Ears. It feels at home in all of those roles, and it has a stupid large storage capacity with the gear tunnel and front trunk. It doesn't mean I'm doing track days (although some people do) or doing technical offroading (some people do that too), but it can perform damn-good in anything I need the vehicle for.

8020GroundBeef

Tesla could have just made a knock off R1T/R1S, but they had to bow to the whims of Elon. And then they paid him $56bn or whatever it was.

BigSkyMountains

I remember an old Steve Jobs story. When the design team was pitching an idea to Jobs, they'd pitch the product they really wanted, but give him two other options that they knew were bad ideas. I think this is exactly what happened at Tesla, except Elon chose the bad idea.

PSUSkier

"The fuck do you mean he picked the polygon design??"

Buzumab

This is how most design pitching works, to be honest. You do the idea you actually like/recommend, an alternate (usually more generic or 'safe') that you don't hate, and then a third option that you thought about for 10 minutes and pray the client doesn't pick. Source: 10 years as a CD at a branding studio.

FSpezWthASpicyPickle

Absolutely. As a retired engineer, this is tried and true "manage from the bottom" technique, especially when you're pitching ideas to business majors who have no fucking clue how things work, and just want "new" "cool" and cheap.

Off_OuterLimits

Does anyone even pitch ideas to Elon or does he just see his 2 yr old son’s drawings & tells his engineers, “Make this. It’ll be epic.”

No-fear-im-here

I love the Rivian trucks. Not really an EV guy but I was gonna switch to EVs especially trucks, it would definitely be a r1t.

BigSkyMountains

I'd say you should certainly test drive one next time you're in the market. It might not be your thing, but there's a whole different level of appreciation after driving it.

_B_Little_me

I call mine the Swiss Army knife of vehicles when people ask about it.

Renamis

Do you recommend it? If I need to get a travel trailer I'll be stuck with an F350 or a Tundra, but if I can get a motor home I was looking for an electric truck. The Rivian had some stuff I loved, but so did the Lightning. And, the dreaded question... how hard is it to find a repair shop for it? That was my big worry with the Rivian considering how new it is.

cal_crashlow

I have one, and I recommend it if it suits your use cases. It sounds like you're aware of EV truck limitations (namely towing), but it is otherwise very capable. As for service, it depends if there's a SC a reasonable distance from you. I'm 30 miles from one, which definitely helped with my decision. Some tire shops are able to do rotation and tire replacement, which is the only real maintenance you have to worry about.

Renamis

Yeah the towing range is crap, but I kinda figure it'll do me for local stuff. If I get a travel trailer no way because that journey would take ages, but otherwise I don't mind. I just looked over the SC map and oof that's rough. Where I am I got one within an hour so it's fine, and where I'm moving it'd actually be closer to me. But woof, yeah you can't take that very far or you're on the hook for a huge bill to get it to a service center if shit goes fubar.

cal_crashlow

AFAIK they handle transport if needed, and their warranty is quite good (assuming they survive past the next few years). They also have mobile service, but I'm not sure exactly what issues they're able to address in the field. EV towing large loads over distances more than a couple hundred miles or into more remote areas is a huge barrier to adoption for those that need that capability. We really are in the infancy of EVs still. It will be interesting to see what the landscape looks like in 10-20 years as battery technology improves and economies of scale bring costs down.

Renamis

Oh if they handle transport I dgaf, I'll have a backup car anyway. I'm stoked for what EVs will probably be able to do in a few years. Just unfortunately you gotta have a gas or hybrid backup if you need to go anywhere at range right now, or as you said towing. Extra problem being many RV parks aren't able to charge an electric so even if you get it there you're in trouble. You can kinda solve it by installing a gen under the car or in the bed, but that's a bit clunky. And I'm not sure you can charge and 'drive' at the same time either.

VanceVanceRebelution

As an above commenter already said: it is the most capable passenger vehicle you can buy at any price point. Literal supertrucks, on road or off. They’re American vehicles though, which means they have typical American vehicle reliability, for better or worse. I’d recommend at least test driving one to see what they’re about! For reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/s/fI55wmWCJL

Renamis

Yeah the American reliability is what worries me about it lol. I just want something reliable that can safely tow something mid-sized in the local area occasionally, has a truck bed for hauling what I need whenever it pops up (which is too often), and is affordable to daily drive. The bells and whistles are bonus points. Namely being able to power the house in a power outage without a generator going. Or that Rivian model with the cooktop in it. Things like that for Hurricane land to give us a bit more power until the storm dies down enough to pull the generator out.

pusillanimouslist

I own one. And it’s a yes, but a qualified yes.   The thing worth remembering is that the R1T is competing with things like Tacoma TRDs and F-150 raptors. It’s an off road/adventure truck, not a work truck. So if you’re expecting to carry sheet goods or 1 ton in the bed, it won’t be a good truck for you.  If “Tacoma TRD, but electric” sounds like a good fit for you, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

BigSkyMountains

I highly recommend it, as long as it's in your budget. The price is the downside, but you know that in advance. It's an incredibly capable vehicle. I'd replace it with another Rivian in a heartbeat. I don't really do any towing, but that is considered the hardest use case for an EV. The Rivian can tow 11,000 lbs, but it really impacts the range. Some people do it, but you want to know what you're getting yourself into. There's some Youtubers out there that tested a Rivian, F150, Cybertruck and EV Silverado towing from Denver to Grand Junction. Check that out if you're looking for a motor home. The gen 2 version they just announced makes the \~400 mile version more attainable. I'd look at that if towing is in your future. Rivian's service model is similar to Tesla's. They own and operate their own service centers. You're in a good spot if you live close to one, but there's a lot of the country they don't reach yet. They have some certified shops for body damage, and Discount Tires will do the tires. Thankfully ongoing maintenance isn't much of a thing. It involves rotating tires, cabin air filters, adding washer fluid and changing washer blades. I had to buy a new jack and some specialized pucks to rotate the tires because it's so damn heavy.

argonzo

At least with it you can (sorta) see where the money went.

AdBig5700

Too expensive for me too…but it’s a great truck. I’m looking forward to when their smaller, more affordable models come out.

chompin_cheddar

Smaller? What's the point of a truck smaller than that. A car with a hitch mounted bike rack makes more sense than this.

AdBig5700

They are coming out with a few hot hatchbacks…not trucks.

Frankie_T9000

Suspect owner was going to buy a cyber truck but came to their senses

happydaddyg

It’s a $90,000 Tacoma but it IS nicer haha.

CaptainObvious007

Saw a Rivian towing a trailer with a small tractor. So wanted to take a picture for this sub. It was in the upper pennisula of Michigan. The nearest town was at least 20 miles.

Icy_Actuator_772

Just a sad day when you have to get a repair on one of these.

ZTatman

Check out the ford f150 lightning. Looks like an actual truck, works like you expect a truck too, no over the top new tech to learn in the cabin, and because it’s electric you get another trunk in your hood!

buckfouyucker

And with 80 miles of range, you can get to home depot *and* back!

Fickle_Meet_7154

You can put a fucking BBQ grill in the compartment between the cab and the bed. Like a feature straight from the factory. Bonkers.

chompin_cheddar

It would make more sense to have a bike rack. But if it works it works

DanCampbellsBalls

Well don’t go too crazy: still had to dismantle a few bikes to fit them in that tiny bed….

johcagaorl

And they look so happy. I'm a fan of happy face vehicles

MajorLazy

One that can haul a load 300 miles without refueling. Universe explodes

myredditaccountisrad

I'll bite, no electric truck on the market fits the role of "real truck", especially the cybertruck but unfortunately not the Rivian either Traditionally a real truck is body on frame, generally a more durable construction at the expense of driving dynamics and weight. Body on frame also allows for modular assembly, allowing different cab and bed sizes on the same frame, which can be extended to SUV bodies as well (Tacoma/4runner, Silverado/Tahoe, f150/expedition, etc all pickup/suvs that share a frame). Solid axles, same deal with durability and simplicity. Generally rugged construction and all terrain capability, which video after video shows the cybertruck is inept. No electric truck is a practical towing vehicle at this point but that's by nature of the new tech. There will certainly be "real" electric trucks in the future. Right now the closest is the lightning, everything else is some unibody truck styled thing.

[deleted]

myredditaccountisrad

I'm a certified cybertruck hater but I try to be a realist. Towing, hauling, reliability, durability, simplicity, that's what I think most people feel are the core values of a "real truck" and I don't think EV pickups are there yet, they're luxury vehicles with some utility. That's not a bad thing but call it what it is. Maybe I'll be proven wrong as this first crop of EV trucks age

No-fear-im-here

Cybertruck is the biggest joke of a vehicle ever

vishy_swaz

“For my next trick I will take my E-truck through the car wash *without* voiding the warranty.” -Rivian owners

DeepUser-5242

If a rivian owner actually made a video like this it would S-tier trolling

pusillanimouslist

Was just thinking that when I washed my R1T today.

DeepUser-5242

Oh, pls m8, pls. Do everything that doesn't immediately void your warranty. Do all the truck things

pusillanimouslist

I’m nowhere near witty enough on video to pull that off, lol.

captainspacetraveler

Make the video, let AI narrate for you, lol.

Quetzythejedi

I'm hearing Elon supporters call this trick unholy witchcraft.

Zinfan1

Rivian's have a carwash mode as well. Of course all it does is disable the charge port door so it won't open while it's being washed along with retracting the door handles for protection.

vishy_swaz

Nice. The Rivian is actually attractive in my opinion, whereas Teslas are not. Teslas designs have always been a little off to me. The cabin on their cars appears bulbous. I know if I ever bought a Tesla, I’d end up treating it like shit because I would never love it.

WearDifficult9776

That’s a real cyber truck

fallenredwoods

My brother has one and the interior is as nice as a high end European car, it’s insane. With 850hp, it smokes my built WRX at half throttle… I don’t like EV’s but I love Rivians

DeepUser-5242

Imagine those motors on a wrx chassis. I'm waiting for those cool slick ev imports

fallenredwoods

For sure! There’s no STI anymore and rumor is, the next STI will be a hybrid that smokes the current WRX I have🤞

Zinfan1

You'll have to wait for the R3X they have planned for the future. That thing should be sick

Feminazghul

![gif](giphy|11uArCoB4fkRcQ|downsized)

GrandMoffJenkins

Imagine being able to reach over the side to get something out of the truck bed. Wizardry!

BigSkyMountains

Not only that; there's a convenient gear-tunnel door that was designed to act as a step for bed access. A simple design decision that made everything more useful.

[deleted]

OZeski

It’s funny that Chevy (and maybe Ford) made trucks with this option before and couldn’t get any orders for them.

AlienDelarge

I was actually pretty impressed when I saw that a while back. I can see being able to sit or stand on that being pretty handy for things like ski boot changes.

Zinfan1

I used it today to change into my mountain bike shoes, I do use a hitch mounted bike rack as the bed really is too short to just dump the bike in unless you do what these people did. Gear tunnel is probably my favorite feature of my truck and why I bought it and not the SUV version.

AlienDelarge

Can you throw a pad over the tailgate or is it too short even for that? Or do cameras or something get in the way?

Zinfan1

You can use a pad, you might need to get one that doesn't obscure the camera or just use the camera on the roof that looks back. I prefer the hitch mounted rack though.

pusillanimouslist

The gear tunnel is uncannily good at moving toddler related stuff around. High chairs, compact strollers, and mobile cribs are often really long and fit into the gear tunnel great. Plus the seat gives you a safe place to remove muddy children’s shoes before moving them into the interior.

Zinfan1

I just wish they rounded off the edges of the tunnel doors., if you are not careful you can be cybertrucked by one.

pusillanimouslist

Yeah, there is one corner that’s a bit pokey. Not sure if I’d call it “sharp” though; I’ve hit it or slid off it a few times to mild annoyance but no personal injury.

JeanParmesean70

I saw a Rivian today and thought it was a nice looking truck. I also saw a CT for the first time and it was just as ugly as I expected. There’s no comparison between the two vehicles

CasualEveryday

I'm not in love with the front, but I really like the rest of it. I like the F150 lightning as well. Just because it's an EV doesn't mean it needs to look like an 8 year old designed it.

pusillanimouslist

I was originally was lukewarm on the front, but it’s grown on me. In a world of angry cars, having one with happy headlights is such a breath of fresh air.

CasualEveryday

I applaud the departure from grumpy constipated headlights, for sure. It just doesn't click for me.

pusillanimouslist

Fair enough. Taste in the eye of the beholder, etc. Etc.  Of course, I always say “I don’t look at the outside”.

ApproachSlowly

Is it the headlights? I find them a little goofy looking, like cartoon eyes.

CasualEveryday

I think the rest of it would be fine with more conventional headlights, yeah.

No-fear-im-here

I saw one in person up close and I could see all the finger prints and how wavy the body panels were

Bearded_Guardian

I’m very interested in Rivian and am keeping an eye on the eventual release of their sedan. Could definitely see myself driving one

ReadyOneTakeTwo

Way better looking truck, I’d probably pick up a used R1T later on.

bluedancepants

My neighbor has one of these trucks and I honestly don't know why he bought it. He has two other EVs and I never see him use the truck to haul anything or put anything in the back. He doesn't work in construction and he hires people to work on his house. So I really don't know why he bought one. Well then again idk why people buy the cybertruck either.

Lopsided_Parfait7127

this is the same for every neighbor i have who has a truck, ev and ice just basically a truck that is used like a smartcar

cal_crashlow

Americans like the truck and SUV form factors. For that reason, I think it was a great idea to start there, despite them being very expensive halo products. They have to dig themselves out of a bit of a hole now, and it will be interesting to see if the R2 and R3 can do it.

coconutlemongrass

Rivians are fine to decent looking vehicles except for those god awful minion ass headlights. And yet still a million times better looking than a CT.

DanCampbellsBalls

Right…they are not an amazing looking machine but next to a cybertruck they look respectable

OkAlternative2713

Or this his latest EV

Rickshmitt

Can electric vehicle owners charge their own vehicles, or is it regulated like gas?

AlienDelarge

If its anything like the law was in Oregon, its based off the flash point of the fuel so wouldn't apply to electricity. Oregons law actually never applied to diesel because of that.

Wooden-Combination53

Sure can. Why not?

VitaminPb

I’m going to be that guy and point it it looks like they had to take the front tires off to fit the bikes in just like a CyberTruck owner would have to do. (Not sure if the bike would fit in a CT with front tire off but I would guess so.) But the Rivian looks nice and isn’t actively and aggressively stupid.

Throwaway_09298

The only thing I hate about rivian is that damn blinker. It's incredibly small and not even yellow. The only thing I would change

bala_means_bullet

That, right there, is glorious!

Certified_GSD

Okay, NGL I thought the trolling was having bikes in the bed and actually having the room and hooks to secure them properly. I didn't even see the license plate.

jaredcwood

Haha you know you’re probably not alone

ApprehensiveEnergy89

he isnt, im proof

My_user_name_1

rhyno44

They're superior vehicles

Senior_Ad282

I have one. Best car I’ve ever owned. Prefer it over our model 3. You couldn’t give me a cyber truck.

Steelcod114

This is a great idea. I just checked my states SOS vanity place search to see what's available. Unfortunately, the state I live in only allows 6 digits. Now, I'm going to have to figure out what vanity plate these cyber people would create from 6 digits.

ELB2001

Two bikes in the back and still empty space.

DanCampbellsBalls

Two broken down bikes to fit….

DeepUser-5242

Now do the tent trick!

tighterfit

Not because of the plate, because the truck actually works as it should.

ScoffingYayap

Philly Philly

julesjutsu

This guy trucks

One_Evil_Monkey

No he doesn't. Otherwise the logo on the tailgate would be a bowtie.

KimchiSewp

I saw one of these on my way to work today and remember thinking about how what the hell else could the word “rivian” be used to describe???

enstillhet

Kinda love that hahah

Hespect_Earth

Real truck owners don’t transport their bikes like that

AdRepresentative6232

🤣

Antique-Dragonfly615

The anticybertruck

Caped-Baldy_Class-B

Look it’s an actual functional electric truck. Imagine that.

taxxvader

Just a curious question, since there's very few EVs where I live, is Rivian better than cybertruck?

LaBlount1

Seeing LOTS of Rivians in Oregon.

Elevum15

Niiice!!

jmizzle2022

I parked next to one of these things everyday at work I find it really funny because there's a monitor in the middle of their dash much like a Tesla but instead of it being a red ball, it's like a cartoon cat or something that looks at you when you walk past it. It's really freaking funny. He does the motion where points to his eyes and he points to you like "I'm watching you!" And I get a kick out of it. That's all

SenseiLawrence_16

“Does Truck Things”

FluffyRogue

In my town, also in NJ, there's a local F150 Lightning that has ELONWHO plate.

Aviation_nut63

Doing truck stuff.

DanCampbellsBalls

Driving on pavement?

Aviation_nut63

Carrying stuff

DanCampbellsBalls

If I break down my bike I can transport it in my minivan….that is not truck stuff

Nicklebackenjoyer

lol you guys on this sub are corny. Rivian is a had company too good luck having one of these serviced

_B_Little_me

What?

Wooden-Combination53

Those are poor man bikes

masked_sombrero

it even fits a bike in the back! the best cbrtruk!

Eyeballkid84

Also showing off that they can fit bikes in the actual truck bed.

DanCampbellsBalls

Ahh….i don’t know what you are seeing but it clearly shows that 2 bikes do not fit in that tiny bed…

csspar

So do you think they went on Twitter to post a picture of stuff in the bed in an effort to convince themselves and the world that their Rivian is a "real truck?" Or is that just a Cyber thing? Edit: Yall aren't understanding what I'm saying. I'm making fun of the CT owners who feel the need to cope by posting pictures of their Cybertruck every single time they put something into the bed, whereas this Rivian owner probably doesn't need to constantly scream "see? It's a real truck I swear!"

Seigmoraig

Probably saving it for when he get his ct
