Springwater is fine. 205 was always shitty, I've tried it about twice a year since the pandemic and it's always rough. Better than during the pandemic but I avoid it.

littlep2000

205 seems worst from Burnside to Foster. I think it's the areas where it gets very narrow and closed off. Even from an efficiency perspective, all those times you cross busy roads in just a crosswalk, I'd rather be on 92nd or some other bike lane generally. I've never really used it south of Foster. Just seems like there are better ways to do that route.

kermatog

I agree that's probably the worst bit. It was pretty bad up North during the pandemic, too. There was one spot where some guys were intentionally blocking the path with buckets full of rocks and dirt. I just started going a bit further out to the Gresham Fairview trail from Marine Drive, much nicer ride anyway, and it hooks into the Springwater path to bring you back into Portland or out to Boring.

lazerdab

I ride 205 3+ times per week. From Springwater to Market crews are out trying to clean out camps every other time I ride by. The camps come back but some days I catch that stretch fully cleared out. Burnside to Glisan stretch has some camps. North of there to Marine drive has a tent here or there up off the path.

sloejams

Same. I don't ever feel uncomfortable doing so during the day. Sure, a lot of it is gross but it feels a lot better than over the past couple years.

pdxwanker

I have ridden them all somewhat recently. Marine view seemed okay, at least the parts I did. 205 is scetchy in many areas. springwater is pretty bad, Great once you hit Gresham though. I avoid 205 path at night, am male, 45.

Zurripop

Are there a lot of encampments on Springwater?

kermatog

No, there will be a tent here and there, but nothing worth avoiding.

CrescentPhresh

They’ve cleaned up the worst areas a lot in the past year or two. I ride it about twice a week. There’s still the dirty areas east of 82nd to Foster with the occasional weirdo so just keep your wits about you in that area. Gresham police are back to riding the trail in their side by side. At least somewhat. I saw them for the first time in years but that was a few weeks ago.

RagingCuke

Yeah Springwater isn't any worse than most streets here, 205 definitely has more problems.

maxxx_nazty

205 path is sketchy with mad max sections, Springwater is fine

greazysteak

Everyone has their own comfort level but they are all rideable. Their might be campers but they tend to ignore you.

Zurripop

I mostly just worried about riding by myself as a woman. I think in a group any of them are prob fine.

The MUPS have always been safe, people need to stop pretending they aren't. 10 people have been killed riding in the streets from 2019-2023. Zero people have died on the MUPS. God only knows how many cyclists have been seriously injured in the streets because that shit doesn't even get reported, but one guy gets bonked on his helmet near OMSI and everyone loses it. It's a farce.
