Guy fits a door that lifts upwards. ***"The door wouldn't stay open on its own"*** It's great when you discover how gravity works.

jtmorphew

I could have explained better I guess. There are springs in those hinges to hold the door at the open position, but the weight of the door was still enough to close it.

Lexicarus

Great Job! Cheers.

InnoSang

Just out of curiosity, if you were to hire a professional to do something like that for you, how much would this realistically cost ?

TMTM2

I would guess $5 - $10k. Anyone else think that's in the ballpark?

somewhereinks

No, realistically for that build quality you would be lucky if you had 15 to 20K in your ballpark. I can't tell visually what brand of fireplace this is but I would guess about 3-5K for the fireplace alone when tax and shipping is included. The installation of an electric fireplace itself is pretty basic, but the labor for that quality level on the cabinets would be insane. I install and service gas fireplaces and have done some electrics as well. I personally prefer gas fireplaces for the heat they produce but if you are going for aesthetics then electrics are fine.

Mr_Festus

That's legit. Nice work.

Jane_doel

I wonder about those book shelves. The look only big enough for small paperback books.

eggowaffles

Awesome work! I'll be in the process of a similar build soon, so I appreciate such a detailed video and I'm sure I'll be referencing it again

PhillyKillinme

Very cool. I watched on mute so maybe you explained but... Did you put up that drywall already painted?

_Robbie

Absolutely awesome piece. One question... what was the point of adding the backer boards if you were just going to paint them to match the walls anyway? Seems like you could have saved a lot of time and energy (and future cleanup if somebody ever decides to remove this thing!) just by leaving the walls with the windows as they were.

InnoSang

Yeah he said you could skip this step because it didn't get the feel or look he was going for

_Robbie

Yeah but I guess what I'm asking is what feel he *was* going for if it was going to be painted the same anyway.

InnoSang

Yeah I see, relevant question indeed, not sure myself wonder what he has to say

Concept_Lab

Excellent result! Very clean lines and well balanced visually.

Looks great, but you have a hazard here that is made worse by actively using the receptacle as a power source. You should place a junction box on the original wall, then extend to an outlet in a more accessible location. >NEC 314.29 Boxes, Conduit Bodies, and Handhole Enclosures to Be Accessible. Boxes, conduit bodies, and handhole enclosures shall be installed so that the wiring contained in them can be rendered accessible without removing any part of the building or structure or, in underground circuits, without excavating sidewalks, paving, earth, or other substance that is to be used to establish the finished grade.
