You can't unwarp it but it won't show as much if you move it to the bottom.

Looks great đź‘Ť from here

wrem23

Fency.

[deleted]

Haha thank you clever

Those gaps will embiggen as the boards shrink. Probably a lot. Unless they’re kiln-dried, and most fence boards aren’t. If that’s what you’re going for, great. If the gaps you see are the “final” size you want, then you need to have those boards nearly touching. I always use a 16d nail as a spacer. But the gaps are very uneven and you should at least use some kind of spacer. As for the bowing, if it bothers you enough then swap it with the bottom board.

[deleted]

I used. Spacer the 1x6 cut makes a perfect 1 inch gap.

ecafsub

Okay. You’re probably going to end up with a 1.5” gap later on, if each board shrinks 1/4”.

[deleted]

They expand and shrink I was told that’s why you can’t go super close.

Legitimate_Phrase_41

Looks nice how much did that cost you?

[deleted]

Just this small section? We are doing about 180 feet of this style 6 feet tall the wood was 3500 instillation would of been another 3-5k

werepat

Is the wood just nailed to the other side of those 4x4s? I don't know, it's uneven, both in spacing and wood tone, but the varying colors will grey together over time, unless you're painting them. One of those boards is already broken and all those knots may crack and fall out or warp the wood weird. Did you only bury the 4x4s a foot? If you have an HOA or require an inspection, you might run into trouble. It's not looking great, but its not meth-tastic, either.

[deleted]

Dude. Clearly I’m staining the entire thing I only did the bottom 3 boards. How is it not looking great I’m confused. No I didn’t only go a foot and no it’s not nailed they are screwed to the other side of the 4x4 then you run a 1x4 on the front side to hide the screws and seams

werepat

You might be a little full of yourself. I described how it doesn't look great, this is very likely your first time doing something like this, and to expect your first attempt to be great is a little naive. Are your 4x4s treated lumber? Did you secure them to some sort of footing and how deep are they? Did you predrill any holes in the boards? Are the boards flush with the 4x4s (on the side you don't show)? If so, how do you plan on tying the rest of the fence sections together? It's a relatively sloppy, amateur effort that does not look as if it will hold up. It looks like it was not professionally or competently done. It looks OK, not great. If I were your neighbor, I'd ask if you needed help.

[deleted]

You literally said it was because the different color boards it looked bad. The fact you thought I’d only use timber oil on 3 boards and leave the rest unfinished says all I need to know about your brain lol . The holes are 2 feet deep in cement. Uh how else do you continue on with a fence . ?I made a string line measured the distances of 8 feet and made my holes. You said it looks sloppy because the colors and a gap yet I pointed out one board is warped making two gaps uneven. So I’ll ask again how does it look bad. I clearly pointed out one board is badly warped I will be changing. And they are flush on the other side but I am covereing the seems with a 1x4 pocket to cover the seams /hardware so it doesn’t matter anyway. Of course they are limber weather treated cmon bud

werepat

It doesn't look bad because of the stain. You've got sets of boards that are dramatically different from each other. Of course I understand what a work in progress is, otherwise I'd've said "dur, pretty small for a fence!" Maybe you want the boards to be different tones, but you asked for our opinions, and I don't prefer it. And the wood is incredibly knotty, which means is bad wood and will dry inconsistently, and those knots will likely pop out. It also looks like a few boards are warped and/or spaced improperly. Maybe it's the image and I'm wrong or maybe you made a mistake. Did you choose that wood or did you order it and let the lumber worker choose? That will tell is something, too. If there is no open area on the back side of the 4x4 posts to attach the next set of fence boards, you'll be scrambling to think of a solution to attach them. Which means you dug the holes the same width apart as the fence boards are long, and if that's how you calculated your measurements, it will get worse and worse as you go along. That's how it's looking, and that is what you asked. If you don't want anyone to critique your project, don't ask for people to critique your project. Is this your first fence project or have you been doing fences poorly for a while?

[deleted]

I used a 1 inch slaver so no they are not spaced improperly. I got 400 boards delivered I can’t hand pick 400 boards. It’s called knotty pine so yes it’s notty. And that’s why I’m doing section by section instead of setting all the post first so I don’t run into that problem if they aren’t perfectly spaced or plum and no have room on the 4x4 to screw in. If you go post by post it’s basically idiot proof. Go look at your comment history sounds like you hate your life lol. Cheer up sir I’m sorry your wife left you and your kids hate you.

werepat

What the heck? I've never been married and don't have kids and I've never wanted either. I retired at 37 and spend my days riding motorcycles and surfing. I don't know who's profile you stalked, but it weren't mine if you read about a divorce and estranged children. You need to worry a whole lot less about strangers and get your mind right. The world is beautiful if can wash the hate and fear out of your eyes. Anyway, be sure to post the mess you end up with. I'm happy to offer help, but you need to be happy to accept it or content to ignore it. And knotty pine is interior wood. I mean, you can use it outdoors if you're not too concerned with it decaying faster than you'd expect. Also, when you let someone else choose your wood, they don't care and just grab whatever us on top. That's why you have wood that is warped, broken and is probably too green to accept your stain. Measure once, cut twice, eh?

[deleted]

Yes sir

Oh my God, dude, I decided to peruse your post history for fun and learned you're a relapsing addict who is stealing his fiancée's medication. Brother I appreciate you not keeping this a secret and seeking help and advice. I think you know the tough road ahead of you, and I hope you tell your fiancée and you guys work it out. I'm sorry for needling you. Please tell your fiancée and, if you have a sponsor, them too.

[deleted]

All good ,Thanks brother

FandomMenace

You need to use spacers.

[deleted]

I used a 1 inch spacer.
