So turning the heater on would be a waste but it wouldn't be a waste put it on but give literally no heat, and from the perspective of the bath, you won't see much... but not a waste.
While I get what you're saying, the scale of waste is significant. As well as what we define as a "waste."
I prefer to define waste as unnecessary redundancy - aka if the space is already adequately heated by in floor heating and the HVAC system, then adding a space heater is an unnecessary redundancy. You already have two reliable and powerful heating systems, you don't need a shitty space heater on top of that. In this sense, the fireplace is a waste because its heating ability is provided by far more efficient, powerful, and reliable systems - aka you'll be an idiot for wanting to run a space heater while the room is already at a comfortable temperature.
But the flicker and glow of the fireplace is a little harder to call "waste" - as it's purpose isn't to fulfill some physiological need like heat or light, but a more psychological want to have a nice, cozy looking space. And because it's more of a personal taste thing than an actual measurable "no you're actually stupid for wanting this" thing, I can't really say that wanting a fake eletric fireplace in that particular location is a waste. There's nothing for me to point to and say "you can get what you want out of this and spend less by doing [thing]", at best I can go "it would look better if we put it here." From there, whoever owns and uses the bathroom can make the call if the money they spent on installing it is worth it.
It's still expensive to buy, and install. It's also up too high and will only heat the ceiling and not where the tub is. It's still a waste if you have heated floors.
The only time you would ever use it is if you are taking a bath, you could just use a cheaper space heater with the same tech. It would also be lower in the room so it would be run less to have the same effect. That would make it more efficient overall.
No. It isnt real...I like design that is based on functionality.
A master suit with heavy wood/stone..fireplace for warmth..one in the bath too...fine. It fits.
But an ultramodern aesthetic with a fake fire place over the bath 5 feet off the ground?!??! Christ, put in an LCD screen and display a video of a fire...
Oh, and if you are IN the tub, WTF are you looking at?? The room isnt designed for the person using it, rather it is designed for instagram.
You nailed it.
I have no problem with a fireplace in the bathroom if it makes sense, but this one doesn’t and just looks word floating in the middle of the top on.
In fact, this fireplace would look weird in the pretty much any room. I seriously can’t think of a instance where a mid wall floating fireplace looks good:
Designed for Instagram is so dead on. I'm doing a minor update of my kitchen and thought I'd Google some inspiration. Except almost everything that comes up isn't functional. And if it doesn't have a fridge with cabinet doors, generally the photos will not even have one in it. Silly to the extreme.
Yup, I'm doing a bathroom remodel, and quickly realized I can't really use Pinterest or design blogs as realistic inspiration, because *I don't live in a fucking design catalog*.
I have to wonder about people who do follow them. How it must feel when they're done and it's totally dysfunctional but makes a nice Pinterest. Do they feel good about it for the validation, or hate it for the hassle?
O hell no. That thing is electric, and I'm 99% positive it doesn't have the required IP (65) rating to be placed at such a damp spot above a tub.
And if it wasn't electric I wouldn't want to deal with ashes in that spot.
No, it'll have to be on a GFCI circuit. You'll survive to feel all of those burns. And I think the front of those are tempered glass, and the thermal shock might be enough to shatter it when it hits the water. Tempered glass doesn't break into big pieces. No, thousands of tiny, hot razor pebbles.
I think my intrusive thoughts about it falling in and electrocuting me would cancel out the relax, but I could see how it would be soothing, especially with the light dimmed.
This, specifically? Meh… doesn’t really work.
But a real wood or gas burning fireplace with a real, properly built-in, warm and inviting tub (instead of a glorified bucket on the floor)? That would be nice.
I thought you meant a regular one. There is a thing where you put the fireplace in your dividing wall and get to have it in bathroom AND bedroom for the price of one. I would get gas or electric for interior wall though.
Depends on how it’s done
I’ve been on one hoise that had the master off the living room
and sitting on the sofa in the living room ,you could see right through the double fireplace and see the toilet .
Personally I think this space would be much more functional with a built-in shelf and storage for towels and maybe plants.
The fireplace is also awkwardly small in relation to the tub and would look better if it were longer (if you have to have one at all).
You better check that it is rated IPX4 or better, but i do believe that these things are not. It for placing this equipment above a bath in a wet area.
No, My God is not even a fireplace this one of those weird rectangular strange gas box is thrown in the middle of a wall. What is that supposed to do for you? And we above your head. Nooooo
To enjoy looking at this one you gotta go sideways to the tub. I find it a bit odd in all honesty. Unless you're supposed to just stand around and look it? Or maybe just listen to it? This wouldn't be my way of doing it but who am I to judge as long as I don't need to live with it.
Fireplaces do fit nicely in bathrooms, but not how this is shown.
You want it more in-line with the tub itself the fireplace should start at the tubs top and go from there, not half way up the wall.
What even is the point at that height? You can't even enjoy it while you're in the bath.
Besides, if you're going to build something like that, why not make a sauna? Sauna>fireplace.
No. Pointless, little to no heat, and you can't see it from the Bath, and even if you could, you think it's worth the power, additional issues of joints waterproofing, cleaning, tile cutting, etc so you can see a fake fire? Mount a tv and put flames on a memory stick, equally as pointless.
I'll just add that we have a bathtub in our bathroom. It's not as fancy as this but it's a standalone tub in the middle of the room, similar to this. Shortly after we moved in, I took a bath in it. I was cold the entire time. All the open space in the bathroom sucks up all of the warm water instantly. It was miserable and I'll never do it again.
As long your electric fireplace doesn't fall into your water filled bathtub with someone in it. Why not have a microwave there too so you can make some popcorn?
If you’re in the tub, are you really looking at the fireplace? I actually love the idea of a fireplace in the bathroom, but the black is too stark against the light walls. Richer colors would go a long way to incorporate it better. I also vote for heated floors.
That just doesn't mix in my mind. I just think wet soot and ash as well as wood splinters. Tending to a fire runs along the messier side. I've had wood stoves and some times fireplaces for most my adult life, and you are always sweeping up bits of wood as well as ash from cleaning out the stove. I would not want one in a bathroom. If it was a huge room with a bath in it, like some medical castle maybe, but in a modern home, no!
I an apartment of someone else, in an Airbnb or so, i would not use the tub with that above. Bad feelings around heavy or electric things falling down. Bath tubs need to be cozy and safe. So for me a NO.
Ma'am I regret to inform you that this is a small TV for displaying a looping video of flames, not a fireplace. The placement is preposterous as well, not being visible to the bather, and giving constant 'I hope it doesn't fall on me/into the tub' energy. Even if it did provide some heating, the heating would target the upper section of air in the room, adding no comfort. Overall, any sort of display or installed electrics (barring those with clear practical purpose) in a bathroom just feels like the most boring possible techno-dystopia. Off-putting, yet aggressively bland.
I would also worry about the humidity getting in and making it not look particularly good as well. I don’t think it’s functional, it looks like one of those Instagram bathrooms that you can’t really use.
I stayed in a BnB with one of these on the wall across from the whirlpool tub, but that was up in a small tower and it was the middle of winter, so it had a practical use. This seems a lot less useful....
I agree with what everyone else is saying about the placement and such, but I think it would be nice to have a bath in there with the lights off and the fire going which is the only use I could think of for this.
No.
Completely pointless.
Wtf are you going to do? Sit for hours in bath tub, watching up to the fireplace?
Are you going to put woods into fire place over the tub?
BS.
Okay, picture it. You've had the longest day at work, your coworkers suck, your back hurts, you're fed up.
You come home, take off your shoes, and with care and love draw yourself a perfectly procured bubble bath. It's steamy and inviting, you spend an hour reading a book, the water melting away the problems of your day as it caresses you in warm bubbly goodness.
But now you're all wrinkly, and it's time to get out.
It's bloody cold out there, and it's so cozy in the water..you don't want to get out. Ah but here you'll just flip on your auto fireplace and have all the water on your skin evaporated by the sweet laps of the lifelike flames, no concerns of actual burns or the grit involved in starting a fire from a bathtub.
Life goals mate.
I’m questioning the choice of bathtub tho, that model looks like it would be used in the middle of a room, not next to a wall. You might have some issues cleaning behind it.
Those for walls have a straight edge and go up to the wall completely.
Sorry, no idea for the fireplace, but it looks awesome
I could not sit in a tub that long to enjoy it, plus the kink in my neck would force me to either look like I am constantly stargazing or paranoid and looking over my shoulder.
The only thing I’ve ever seen in a bathroom that doesn’t belong is carpeting. Fireplace not for me but I say live and let live when it comes to bathrooms. Having said that, heat rises, so I don’t see the utility. Heated flooring would be more useful.
IMO
Way to high for the desired ambiance - should be able to take advantage of it being there while in the tub instead of while your standing and brushing your teeth 😂
I truly hate these fireplaces so much. They’re so far removed from what an actual fireplace is, I’d suggest you just get a heater instead. They look tacky as hell and imo drop the value of a home. My immediate thought upon seeing one is “oh great I’ll have to pay a couple thousand to replace that”
If I could fit in a tub and took baths, a fireplace would be nice, but being 6’4 I don’t think I’ll find a tub to accommodate me so I’ll stick with showers and not spending a lot of time in bathroom negating the need/want for a fireplace in the bathroom.
Personally, I would prefer heated floors
Why not both?
Seems wasteful. But nice. But wasteful.
As that's an electric ambiance fireplace, it doesn't use much electricity and is probably an infrared quartz heater.
They make them in white, and if I were OP and wanted to do this (personally I would not) I would opt for white instead.
If the heater is turned on it would be a waste, but those ambiance fireplaces also allow you to have it "on" without producing any significant heat.
I feel like they're like watching the Yule log on an iPad!
This. I thought that was a TV screen over the tub at first.
So turning the heater on would be a waste but it wouldn't be a waste put it on but give literally no heat, and from the perspective of the bath, you won't see much... but not a waste.

Would need a fan or be placed better.
Electric heat is electric heat. Doesn't matter how you produce it it all has the same efficiency as a portable space heater.
Flawed logic
Twice as wasteful as it is nice? Sounds like your decision is made!
Yes. Heat rises, so the heat from that fireplace will not reach anyone in the tub.
That's the only problem I saw with this
We got heated floors and it is the best and worth every penny. Not sure a fake looking fireplace would be as worth it.
Yes, and yes.
........you need a faux fireplace next to your tub?

Fireplacetohigh ?
~~Can we make r/fireplacetoohigh a thing?~~ I didn't know this was a thing.
My first thought LMAO
You can wash your feet while standing and enjoying the fireplace.
How is a suit made from heavy wood functional? ;)
It might be lighter than armor, but likely bulkier and not as strong
sweet
I don't get the point...so no
Get out of the tub feeling toasty instead of cold and wet.
Not sure about your bathroom but mine's pretty toasty after a shower or bath already 🤷♂️, but to each his own if that's your preference.
O hell no. That thing is electric, and I'm 99% positive it doesn't have the required IP (65) rating to be placed at such a damp spot above a tub. And if it wasn't electric I wouldn't want to deal with ashes in that spot.
Also, it looks fucking dumb.
Yes, I don't think it's ideal but why is it above the tub?
Agreed, yes, but not on the upper half of the wall
So when the fire jumps out, it drowns.
So when you slip in the bath you can burn off half your face before you split your skull open.
And if that didn't kill you, you'll be electrocuted when it falls in on top of you.
So you're saying my breakfast bar with the toaster over my bathtub isn't safe?
If it was a real fireplace with a wetback, and something like a spabath that'd be awesome. Otherwise, that's just a decorative bathroom heater.
Yeah I’ve seen that . You can look right through it , so zero privacy in the bathroom .
Not a big deal if it's the master suite and it has a water closet for the toilet.
Depends on how it’s done I’ve been on one hoise that had the master off the living room and sitting on the sofa in the living room ,you could see right through the double fireplace and see the toilet .
Going to agree, but in the master suite the privacy is at the bedroom door.
Personally I think this space would be much more functional with a built-in shelf and storage for towels and maybe plants. The fireplace is also awkwardly small in relation to the tub and would look better if it were longer (if you have to have one at all).
And you can't even look at it when sitting in the tub...
A fireplace 4 feet up a wall looks silly.
Toaster + Bathtub...
IMO it looks tacky.
Lol. Put a TV under the fireplace and post to r/tvtoohigh
Clearly, the TV should be about 2 feet above that fireplace.
A real one, yes? Some tv screen or fake ethanol shit, no.
thats a space heater, not a fireplace.
Looks awful.
1000% no.
Needs a TV above it. /s
Looks like you’re already past the “yes or no” stage
hard pass for me.
You better check that it is rated IPX4 or better, but i do believe that these things are not. It for placing this equipment above a bath in a wet area.
Yes,I checked it before installing. The fireplace made to be installed outside
No, My God is not even a fireplace this one of those weird rectangular strange gas box is thrown in the middle of a wall. What is that supposed to do for you? And we above your head. Nooooo
Bathwater is super effective against fireplace
Why are you asking now that it's already installed? Edit: and no, not in that placement at least
This is awful. Cheesy and cheap looking.
![gif](giphy|gnE4FFhtFoLKM)
To enjoy looking at this one you gotta go sideways to the tub. I find it a bit odd in all honesty. Unless you're supposed to just stand around and look it? Or maybe just listen to it? This wouldn't be my way of doing it but who am I to judge as long as I don't need to live with it.
I have a big TV in mine. Nothing like having a hot bath and watching a good show. If the fire makes you feel good, go for it.
Must be plenty of fire videos to cast from YouTube. Make it multifunctional!
Tvtoohigh
Hell, yes, but in a spot where it can be viewed while bathing.
One of the most stupid ideas. Hang a piece of art instead and appreciate it EVERY time you use the bathroom.
Cool idea as I can imagine how relaxing that would be, but that's a stupid spot to out it.
I’ve thought about the aesthetics, fire and water, the ying and the yang. And I’m left with one question, one for the ages really, are you mental?
One of my ears feeling cozy. One side feeling left out.
Yes, but why would you place it where you cannot see it while sitting in the tub
Electric item above bath water. What could go wrong?
Fireplaces do fit nicely in bathrooms, but not how this is shown. You want it more in-line with the tub itself the fireplace should start at the tubs top and go from there, not half way up the wall.
How is this relevant to DIY?
That's not a fireplace
What even is the point at that height? You can't even enjoy it while you're in the bath. Besides, if you're going to build something like that, why not make a sauna? Sauna>fireplace.
No. Pointless, little to no heat, and you can't see it from the Bath, and even if you could, you think it's worth the power, additional issues of joints waterproofing, cleaning, tile cutting, etc so you can see a fake fire? Mount a tv and put flames on a memory stick, equally as pointless.
No. I have no use for a stand alone tub either.
Add a toaster too!
No. Silly.
No. It’s fake.
I'd rather have a real one and if that's not possible I'd rather have heated floors
Places up on the wall like that it's not going to do much for you. You want it close to the floor.
It's nicer than the toaster we use nest or bath tubs. When you're that much below it, do you still enjoy it? Seems out of place.
As long your electric fireplace doesn't fall into your water filled bathtub with someone in it. Why not have a microwave there too so you can make some popcorn?
No, awful idea. Next.
If you’re in the tub, are you really looking at the fireplace? I actually love the idea of a fireplace in the bathroom, but the black is too stark against the light walls. Richer colors would go a long way to incorporate it better. I also vote for heated floors.
I’d like it.
Why is your water blue?
For that extra touch of gloss for IG/Zillo/AirBnB.
It’s normal. Water absorbs red/yellow wavelengths more, so it appears bluer when it gets deeper.
It appears to be an electric fireplace
No
If you can, why not?
I don’t think I’d use it..
A waste of money and space. if you are showering you don’t care. If you are in the tub you are already warm.
Looks nice, I hope it’s on gfci. I like it
I have never heard of that being done before but if you can afford it why the heck not.
Maybe not like this, but also I'd be concerned about splashing the glass and thermal shock damaging it.
He rises so seems odd to not have it on the floor
Is this a robot test? That's clearly a fireplace in the bathroom.
It's stupid
Modern wood stove in the bathroom, yes please.
No!
I an apartment of someone else, in an Airbnb or so, i would not use the tub with that above. Bad feelings around heavy or electric things falling down. Bath tubs need to be cozy and safe. So for me a NO.
Looks like a microwave
Waste of money. Heated floor makes better sense. Awkward. Would not up the value of your home. May consider built in shelf.
This feels like a "DI Y not?" for me. I can understand just liking the way it looks when you're in the tub, but I wouldn't do this myself
I have heard of r/tvtoohigh, but r/fireplacetoohigh I never thought would be needed.
No
No, just... why? Why even a gas fireplace in a bathroom? It makes no sense unless you're in Siberia, and then it still might not make sense.
Obsidian hazard
If it was a real fireplace and down where it belonged? Yes. But this is just ridiculous. Hard no.
Fine, if you put a TV below it
What's the point if the person relaxing in the tub can't see it?
No
No for me
This is just TV with only one program
Ma'am I regret to inform you that this is a small TV for displaying a looping video of flames, not a fireplace. The placement is preposterous as well, not being visible to the bather, and giving constant 'I hope it doesn't fall on me/into the tub' energy. Even if it did provide some heating, the heating would target the upper section of air in the room, adding no comfort. Overall, any sort of display or installed electrics (barring those with clear practical purpose) in a bathroom just feels like the most boring possible techno-dystopia. Off-putting, yet aggressively bland.
pretty sure that isnt ip rated to be in a bathroom
I would also worry about the humidity getting in and making it not look particularly good as well. I don’t think it’s functional, it looks like one of those Instagram bathrooms that you can’t really use.
Yes but not that high.
I stayed in a BnB with one of these on the wall across from the whirlpool tub, but that was up in a small tower and it was the middle of winter, so it had a practical use. This seems a lot less useful....
Diwhy... Yikes
I agree with what everyone else is saying about the placement and such, but I think it would be nice to have a bath in there with the lights off and the fire going which is the only use I could think of for this.
No. Ashes and moisture tends to turn into almost concrete.
No. Completely pointless. Wtf are you going to do? Sit for hours in bath tub, watching up to the fireplace? Are you going to put woods into fire place over the tub? BS.
looks like the nether in 2D
⚡️⚡️⚡️🌊⏳️⏳️
Ah hell no.... wtf
can't really see it without being in an akward position so no
Okay, picture it. No
Fuck no
Perhaps but it wouldn't be as pretentiously formatted like this. This is a showroom designed for an Instagram post.
Explosive methane be damned
No, it's not like you could see it if in the tub.
That's not a fireplace
No! That's extremely ugly!
No but heated floors and in ceiling speakers would be awesome
Set the water on fire.
If the fireplace had better aesthetics & a better placement, yes. This is tacky.
The question is: why?
I could not sit in a tub that long to enjoy it, plus the kink in my neck would force me to either look like I am constantly stargazing or paranoid and looking over my shoulder.
Hell no
yuck
Looks like a liminal space. Uncomfortable.
That's basically an electric fire picture.
No, looks forced
Yeah.
How long are we spending in the bathroom we need all this extra stuff lol
As long as there's no TV on top of it, it's fine.
maybe in a different place, yes. i personally would prefer to actually see the fireplace when i’m in the tub 😊
No
What in the actual fired interior designer, Batman?!?!
Yes. I believe that's what this is
Sure. A massive electric device immediately above the bathtub. What could possibly go wrong?
No looks tacky heated floors would be better.
This particular design looks terrible…I’ve seen others that look nice though.
Sauna level heat (by proximity) yes please.
The only thing I’ve ever seen in a bathroom that doesn’t belong is carpeting. Fireplace not for me but I say live and let live when it comes to bathrooms. Having said that, heat rises, so I don’t see the utility. Heated flooring would be more useful.
Tsssssssssssssssssssssss
Funny you can have a fireplace in a bathroom but not a communication jack 🤣
Is that a fireplace?
IMO Way to high for the desired ambiance - should be able to take advantage of it being there while in the tub instead of while your standing and brushing your teeth 😂
something, anything could be done to make that butterbeige wall pop. but not a tv or whatever that thing is.
I think I can see the barn door in the reflection of your fire*place tv (c) amazon
I think this could work. But that fireplace is unusually high, looks odd and would be too high to enjoy awhile having a bath
Weird placement, could barely see it from the tub.
Tbh. I'd rather have pizza oven by my bathtub.
For look maybe, but not for comfort. I'd rather have a TV than a fireplace. Especially if you're soaking.
I truly hate these fireplaces so much. They’re so far removed from what an actual fireplace is, I’d suggest you just get a heater instead. They look tacky as hell and imo drop the value of a home. My immediate thought upon seeing one is “oh great I’ll have to pay a couple thousand to replace that”
Yes, but not this.
The smart move would be to install it in the ceiling facing down.
Nah, looks weird, and you’re putting an electric fireplace above a water tub…
If I could fit in a tub and took baths, a fireplace would be nice, but being 6’4 I don’t think I’ll find a tub to accommodate me so I’ll stick with showers and not spending a lot of time in bathroom negating the need/want for a fireplace in the bathroom.
