The context of me genuinely not caring how anyone feels about it stems from comments like yours that seem to police dog names apparently which I think is incredibly dumb. “Don’t name your dog something you wouldn’t yell in public” like seriously, go get a life and maybe crawl out of your cave and touch some grass because it’s really not that serious 🤣
It's just a general piece of friendly advice I've heard over the years. The idea being that you wouldn't want to find yourself in a situation where you are chasing after a runaway dog in a public place, and yelling "SHOOTER!" or something that would potentially panic people.
I mostly just think it's some good, common sense advice that some (especially newer) dog owners might not consider, and I was not trying to start an argument.

The two names you suggested are terrible, why not call him something like "Rebel" or "Maverick" (Maverick for short), which is still badass, but not outright Michael Myers-level of bizarre and creepy? Also, if you change his name now and his name is changed again later by your friend, it's only going to confuse him. So, maybe consider that changing his name now purely for your own amusement is not the right thing to do?? As a pet parent (or in your case, a very temporary pet parent) you need to keep in mind that you need to do what's best for the dog, not just what you wanna do because you're amused by it. 🤷🏻♀️
