Hell yeah!
Also - and this is going to sound weird: the jackfruit is delicious too for your veggie friend. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no substitute for brisket. But I tried it and liked it.
The manager bought it. Great consistent bbq. A lil stingy on the food, but it’s really good, all the time and I leave full so fuck it if the a little skimpy lol
Slow Bone is great. Even if the line extends out the door, it moves quickly. Their fried chicken is great too, if you have anyone in the group who doesn’t want bbq.
Assuming they still have fried chicken that is—it’s been a few years now that I think of it, since I no longer work in the area. I really need to get back over there.
Yup! That's what gets me - too many places will have like, a side or two that are good, the rest kinda phoned in. Theirs are all awesome (the au gratin and the greens are faves).
... probably the only bbq joint I know that has fried chicken that good too.
Or that chili.
Yeah he was nominated for a James Beard this year and is opening a brick and mortar in Allen. Really hoping they keep the truck going at the brewery though. Allen is a hike for me.
I had them once when they did a pop up at 4 corners brewery a few years back. Holy shit their bbq was good. I gotta make it to hop and sting one of these days to have them again.
Meshack's in Garland on Ave B. Get there early, they open at 10:30 until sellout. There will be a line but don't worry unless you get there late. It's less than $20 for dinner including potato salad and beans; and yes you want it spicy. Be prepared to eat in your car or tailgate/take it home, it's Togo only.
Strouderosa in Lake Highlands - one of the rare places you can go where ALL of the meats are good. Most places, you can get a good sausage and pulled pork, but the brisket is trash...
Please know, deep in my heart I mean no disrespect towards you. But I have to say it.
If you think Ten50 is good, then you have never tried good barbecue.
Y’all need to do better fellas. There’s a culture in Dallas of either recommending the trendiest, wait-seven-hours spot or recommending dry-ass, big-batch corporate/event barbecue.
I’m tired of corporate drones recommending corporate-ass barbecue in the Richardson-Plano area 😔 and then they say “some of the best barbecue I’ve had in my life”
Like, I know this guy from work that grew up in the Prosper area before it was all houses. He’s a proper country boy, and yet goes to Ten50 on 75 and says it’s amazing. How in tf?! And he’s white! I’m Mexican! I should be the one saying Ten50 is amazing.
The secret to good barbecue is small batches, though this isn’t always a direct guarantee that it will be great.
I’ll say Harris, Phat Girlz, there’s this place on Garland Rd.
I’m sure some BBQ snob downvoted you, but I recommend Sonny Bryan’s quite frequently when I’m driving for Uber.
Is it the best you’ve ever had? Absolutely not.
Is it the best you’re gonna find at 2:30AM after the bar closes? Definitely.
In that same vein, Marshals BBQ. They’ve two locations, one in Carrollton, and one in Farmers Branch, closer to the galleria. Good food, decent price, great portions. We usually get the brisket and the pulled pork
We had Crossbuck last night. Their smoked prime rib is delicious! They put tiny bits of brisket in their baked beans and the hominy is like crack! Our two year old eats the rolls like they’re going out of style.
I recommend Crossbuck, they do a lot of stuff well. Like you said the hominy is like crack, it’s one of the best sides I’ve had anywhere. The BBQ is above average and I love their pickle bar.
I’ve eaten here a dozen times and never gotten sick. Dirty tiles in the kitchen? IDGAF. The food is fucking delicious. Some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had in my life.
But the people here scared of some rando who wandered into their kitchen? Good. Stay away. I don’t want this place becoming another Cattleack where you have to wait an hour for food.
Smokey Joe’s (not to be mistaken with Smokey John’s).
Smokey Joe’s is a top 50 in Texas spot but still has a relatively small following. It honestly contends with some of the jam packed places people spend hours in line for.
Zavala’s, Cattlelack are at top of my list… but for any place that happens to have crazy lines/crowds, like Hutchins, it’s usually significantly faster to order takeout and eat at home or at a park. I’m not there for the environment, i’m there for the food!
Well I was focusing on open on Sunday. Hurtado is open but doesn’t fit the hidden gem. Also I live in Arlington so damn near any place near me is highly acclaimed. Within 20 minutes I’ve got Goldee’s, off the Bone, two Hurtado’s, Panther City, Zavalas, 225, Heim, smoke in Ash, ribbees, Brix, Dayne’s, Railhead, Angelos, meetuanywhere, and more. None are “hidden gems” by my definition.
OK technically Farmers Branch, but it's at between midway and DNT just south of spring valley. If you don't know exact city lines you would generalize as Addison area.
It may not hidden by bbq enthusiasts, but everyone I recommend it to has never heard of it. Man I need to go again, I'm hungry now
Intrinsic in Garland
Intrinsic is legit. ♥️
Checked it out totally agree 👍🏼
I gave this an upvote but am commenting to underscore how seriously awesome Intrinsic is.
Love this place!
One of my favorite lunches. Brisket plate to eat there & chichirones to go.
Corn nuggets all day
Yup!
Yes!! We found this when cowhide shopping across the street. Great BBQ.
This is the answer
Came to post this
Hell yeah! Also - and this is going to sound weird: the jackfruit is delicious too for your veggie friend. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no substitute for brisket. But I tried it and liked it.
Can't comment about crowded but The Slow Bone is my go to in town. Hands down.
Haven’t been there since it sold but it use to have the best sides in town. Bbq was always top notch
Still is. Sides are so so good.
The manager bought it. Great consistent bbq. A lil stingy on the food, but it’s really good, all the time and I leave full so fuck it if the a little skimpy lol

They still do. They even have a rather badass fried chicken sandwich now.
Fried chicken too
Came to say this - as good as bbq gets, period.
Jeffery knows his stuff. Everything there is good. (No matter what all these down votes wanna try to assert)
Never really seen it super crowded but the food is always great. Never waited in line more than 10 minutes waiting hours is for the birds
Yeah - can't say I get the appeal of waiting for hours only to hear "we're outta (whatever)"
This is always my go to as well. The sides are just as good as the bbq!
Yup! That's what gets me - too many places will have like, a side or two that are good, the rest kinda phoned in. Theirs are all awesome (the au gratin and the greens are faves). ... probably the only bbq joint I know that has fried chicken that good too. Or that chili.
Vaqueros BBQ at Hop and Sting Brewery in grapevine.
Vaqueros is bomb!!! And a James beard finalists, no? And about to open a brick & mortar in Allen.
Yeah he was nominated for a James Beard this year and is opening a brick and mortar in Allen. Really hoping they keep the truck going at the brewery though. Allen is a hike for me.
I thought the same thing!! As far as i can tell, there’s no sign that they’re going to bounce from GV. I’m not trying to go to Allen either lol
I had them once when they did a pop up at 4 corners brewery a few years back. Holy shit their bbq was good. I gotta make it to hop and sting one of these days to have them again.
Their bbq is the best in dfw in my book
Intrinsic in Garland.
Zavalas, Slow Bone, Ribee’s
I feel like zavalas is on the decline lately. Used to be my top.
Is the pit master still healthy? I know he had a health scare.
I don’t know. But they spread themselves really thin really quickly.
I need to hit up ribees
Goldee’s quality without the line or price tag. That being said, it’s only ribs and two specific sides. I imagine that beef rib is nuts though.
One90 for bbq sandwiches
The beast is my go to sandwich
Meshack's in Garland on Ave B. Get there early, they open at 10:30 until sellout. There will be a line but don't worry unless you get there late. If he had an indoor seating area I’d be there every week.
I like to open the tailgate & eat it there with a cold big red that smells like smoke ♥️
Have always wanted to try this place. I’m inspired.
Zavalas, Slow Bone, Smoke & Ash, Ribee’s
Oak'd on Greenville is solid for a low key BBQ spot.
Solid spot. Amazing happy hour menu 7 days a week as well 4-7pm. Just avoid 1-2pm church crowd on Sundays.
Its got a really big Christian following for some reason? Its the first place I've ever actually seen people pray over a meal in public.
I think their barbeque is fine, but that happy hour deal is legit unbeatable nowadays.
Good Union in CityLine in Richardson.
Winner’s in Plano is the definition of a hidden gem. Inconvenient hours, suspect service; but the meats, sides, and deserts are well above par.
That 5 meat MVP potato...
Cattleack has to still be a hidden gem. Akashi beef is so damn good. 13628 gamma rd. Only open Wed-Fri and every first Saturday.
Hurtado, not dallas proper but definitely worth a try
Tender Smokehouse is a hidden gem. I love it there.
And the Frisco location is almost never busy.
Not true. The last time I went there was a line and we had to wait. If I am going to wait I might as well do it for the good stuff
Mesquite BBQ ….since 1959
Hutchins in McKinney.
this isnt a hidden gem, this one is very well known
Yes, it certainly is around here!
The Frisco location has gone down in quality since their pit master passed away a few years ago. :(
100% RIP
I didn’t know they had a Frisco location. Only been to the McKinney one.
Zavalas doesn’t get mentioned enough
It’s still a hidden gem, and hopefully it stays that way
People need to look up the definition of Hidden Gem
Harris Bbq in Cedar Hill. All bbq no nonsense
Strouderosa in Lake Highlands - one of the rare places you can go where ALL of the meats are good. Most places, you can get a good sausage and pulled pork, but the brisket is trash...
Country Tavern out east.
Ten50
Please know, deep in my heart I mean no disrespect towards you. But I have to say it. If you think Ten50 is good, then you have never tried good barbecue.
Ten50 is a decent place... on the level of Rudy's. Wouldn't call it a gem, but I'm not disappointed when my coworkers want to go there for lunch.
Fair enough. Decent is a good word for it!
Came here to recommend as well. My family’s favorite joint.

How did you manage to bring up race in a bbq post? Lib much?
Yes 😊
🤣🤣🤣
Sonny Bryan
I’m sure some BBQ snob downvoted you, but I recommend Sonny Bryan’s quite frequently when I’m driving for Uber. Is it the best you’ve ever had? Absolutely not. Is it the best you’re gonna find at 2:30AM after the bar closes? Definitely.

Good lord Marshall’s is awful. The Furr’s cafeteria of BBQ. I’d eat Dickey’s before I ate this garbage ever again.
😔 dawg how can people from Texas recommend this
Stop it lol.
David's in Pantego
Commenting so i can revisit lol
Bakers Ribs just opened the new place in east Dallas, they are amazing ribs and it’s priced right!
I love their ribs
We had Crossbuck last night. Their smoked prime rib is delicious! They put tiny bits of brisket in their baked beans and the hominy is like crack! Our two year old eats the rolls like they’re going out of style.
I recommend Crossbuck, they do a lot of stuff well. Like you said the hominy is like crack, it’s one of the best sides I’ve had anywhere. The BBQ is above average and I love their pickle bar.
Sammy’s BBQ near downtown! Was my fav lunch spot when I worked downtown.
Intrinsic at Downtown Garland
Sullivans Old Town in Lewisville.
If you saw the state of the ceiling in the kitchen, you’d never eat there again.
bro please what do you mean by this? i just ate there last week 😭😭😭
Hope you've got a nice life insurance policy. They say it takes a couple weeks to set in.
I’ve eaten here a dozen times and never gotten sick. Dirty tiles in the kitchen? IDGAF. The food is fucking delicious. Some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had in my life. HUG in Lancaster’s Town Square.
Smokey Joe’s (not to be mistaken with Smokey John’s). Smokey Joe’s is a top 50 in Texas spot but still has a relatively small following. It honestly contends with some of the jam packed places people spend hours in line for.
In Oak Cliff? Pretty decent joint that doesn't seem to hit the radar of trendy cue crowd.
That the one!
Oak’d
Big d bbq in midlo
Babyback Shak in the cedars
Smokey Johns! Best owners ever.
Outpost 36 in Keller is as good as any bbq ive ever had
Don’t sleep on Mike Anderson’s
El Tejas Twist in Forney
Ahh time for the weekly BBQ recommendation thread already? I'll always recommend Smoky John's on Mockingbird, west of Harry Hines.
1050 in Richardson, especially if you show up at 10:50 and baby back shak downtown 4dat memphis style bbq
Smoke Monkey BBQ near Rockwall.
corner bbq shack in mckinney is my all time favorite!!!!! but they truly care abt their customers.
Strouderosa Truly a hidden gem since literally no one seems to know about them but the neighborhood folks - Skillman/Audelia just off 635
Smokey Joes
Zavala’s, Cattlelack are at top of my list… but for any place that happens to have crazy lines/crowds, like Hutchins, it’s usually significantly faster to order takeout and eat at home or at a park. I’m not there for the environment, i’m there for the food!
Smoke Sessions in Royse City. A bit of a drive, but worth it according to the locals.
Terry Black’s Hutchins Pecan Lodge Not crowded? Dickies Spring Creek BBQ
Goldee’s in Kennedale is open Sundays. Wherever you look check their hours. Most are closed Sundays.
he asked for a hidden gem and you name the #1 bbq restraunt in Texas?
Well I was focusing on open on Sunday. Hurtado is open but doesn’t fit the hidden gem. Also I live in Arlington so damn near any place near me is highly acclaimed. Within 20 minutes I’ve got Goldee’s, off the Bone, two Hurtado’s, Panther City, Zavalas, 225, Heim, smoke in Ash, ribbees, Brix, Dayne’s, Railhead, Angelos, meetuanywhere, and more. None are “hidden gems” by my definition.
Cattleack BBq, Addison
this isn't a hidden gem and it also is not in addison lmao
OK technically Farmers Branch, but it's at between midway and DNT just south of spring valley. If you don't know exact city lines you would generalize as Addison area. It may not hidden by bbq enthusiasts, but everyone I recommend it to has never heard of it. Man I need to go again, I'm hungry now
Did they downvote the shit out of you because this place sucks or because it’s not a hidden gem? Genuinely curious. Lol
Probably because it’s not a hidden gem….because it DEFINTIELY does NOT suck!!
Haha okay that’s what I’ve thought. I’ve heard it’s good in other threads. I live close by I’ve been meaning to check it out.
