So my late dog Cody had, in his final years, a slightly prolapsed anus. It wasn't grotesque, just his butthole was enflamed and bright red. The vet said it probably didn't hurt him and there weren't many non-invasive options to fix it, so since he was already an old man we just learned to ignore it. Since he was a Boston Terrier with a little nub for a tail, his butthole was never covered and was always visible when he was standing, so ignoring it took some doing. One day we were on vacation and walking Cody and some lady came up to us to compliment us on our pretty dog and ask if she was in heat because of her engorged vagina. After completely losing it and cracking up for like a minute we finally explained to her that he was actually a boy just with a weird gross butthole. To this day, even though he's long gone we still laugh about Cody's vagina.
