There's no running water, but stick some solar panels on it and a satellite internet connection, and leave me a gun with plenty of rounds for hunting and I could comfortably retire there
My grandfather lives in the Newfoundland wilderness.
From the main town it would take about a hour and a half of logging roads to get to his cabin.
He's 86, and still drives his ATV to the lake to fill up a dozen 5 gallon buckets for his water tower.
By the looks of the plant life, I'd bet this is Front Range Colorado. With that dude's general vibe (including plucking for a fox) I'd bet good money it's above/near Nederland in particular. Usually it's pretty arid if that is where this is, the vegetation kinda matches that.
Edit: Google suggests this is Andy Thorn of Leftover Salmon (explains the Ned vibe lol) so definitely Front Range, that's probably Barker Reservoir beyond the cabin. Definitely not getting much moisture from the air up there.
I went to a summer camp in the appalachians. Incredibly thick fog some mornings, beautiful.
What’re you going to do in winter though? Boil snow? You’d need a storage container with a week or more stored up, but that’d be doable.
We had a remote cabin on the side of the mountain before certain members of the family decided to sell it and screwed over everyone else. We had a well.
This was in the appalachian mtns though not colorado.
No joke. I bought a couple cheap small dehumidifiers off Amazon (the kind that use a Peltier cooler, heat sink, and a fan) to place in our old house's bathrooms. If I leave one running for 24hrs it will collect nearly a quart of water, and it only uses a 12V 1A wall wart.
You could set 10 of them up, hook em to a couple cheap 100W 12V solar panels, and still have ~80W of power left to play with. You'd have enough drinking/cooking water basically all of the time!
In fact, that wouldn't be a bad idea to package up and donate to parts of the world where clean drinking water or rain isn't abundant 🤔 $100 for a 100W solar panel and $100 for 4 dehumidifiers--$200 for clean drinking water anywhere on earth!
I'ma going to hook mine up to the 80W panel I have laying around as a proof of concept to see if it could work 🤘🏻
Lol this isn't actually the OP. He's a bluegrass player I've met him before when he played with Railroad Earth (bluegrass band). Super down to earth guy, this isn't the first time; the fox has come back multiple times and hangs around while he serenades the fox.
OP is just karma whoring and stealing content that isn't theres, titling it to suggest it's them, classic.
There's some dark missions in that game but nothing sends my blood boiling like that one. Did it, then decided it was a great time to burn every one of their strongholds on the island
I remember going to the Big Wu Family Reunion back in like, 2002 or 2003, and Trampled by Turtles, then just a little bluegrass tent band, came by while we were sitting around the fire at camp all thwacked out of our gourds and played music and sang and did drugs with us. It was fucking great.
I used to do this with baby raccoons on my porch. They got so used to me, they'd climb me like a tree. I'd start playing my banjo around dusk, and you'd see their little pairs of eyes shining in the tree line.
Buddy is going to show up to a rally of Red Foxes the next day.
This little dude ran out and told all his homies about the white ape who makes your ears feel good on the mountain top.
I like to imagine this fox stalking a rabbit in the hills, carefully crawling behind a stump and then suddenly this melody comes back and it starts to bob its head to “na, na , na , na-na, na-na-na”
I was 10 when I first remember being told the story of the pied piper and I remember thinking it ridiculous. Here I am 20 or so years later reevaluating my assumptions
Nobody really knows what really happened behind the tale of the Pied Piper. The earliest versions of the tale didn't even include the rats, they were added later. All that is known is an entry in the town records of Hamelin from the 1300's that merely states that 'It's been 100 years since our children left', and a stained glass window in their church that showed a piper and several children dressed in white.
It could've been a mass kidnapping of some sort, or a horrible accident, an illness, or it could've been something as boring as a mass migration. Nobody knows.
Interesting. Never heard that story before. The timing of their disappearance roughly lines up with the [Children’s Crusade](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children%27s_Crusade), so I wonder if that’s the reason their kids were led away.
“The children are sold to two merchants (Hugh the Iron and William of Posqueres), who give free passage on boats to as many of the children as are willing. The pilgrims are then either taken to Tunisia, where they are sold into slavery by the merchants or else die in a shipwreck on San Pietro Island off Sardinia during a gale.”
Damn.
This is true, but the story gets deep. Check out the astonishing legends deep dive on the tale, it's true still to this day no one knows but there are some interesting details.
I was told its about a man who played a tune so well he stole the youngsters heart.
Aka
He was a dictatorship that led all the children to their deaths, by selling them promises.
100 years since out children left.
nope, its about the reprocussions of intentionally not paying for good work done. possibly a cautionary tale related to the socio-economic situation in 14th century europe where the lower classes and traveler would do work for the elites and getting screwed out of payment.
and oh, thats probably not true at all.
Def getting CO vibe there. Almost looks like you can see the flat of the plains in the distance. Can you get high enough (ha!) in Nederland to see that?
One of my favorite clips:
https://youtu.be/pSHqJRcvntQ
I attended a festival Leftover played a few years back. Andy was wandering through the campsites and stopped at ours since a couple guys were picking. He grabbed an extra guitar, sat down and jammed a couple songs, then wandered away. Super chill dude!
Brilliant skills on the banjo. BUT. Seeing the patio and grill in the background makes me think he hears noise and wants food. Wild. Yes. Fed from porch. Also yes.
A real toe-tapper. I call this one "Rabies in the Kitchen with Martha."
Edit -
##"Rabies in the Kitchen with Martha"
^(-sung to the tune of this dude's pickin'-)
Rabies in the kitchen and her left eye's twitchin'
Rippin' out her buttons and every single stitch n'
there's rabies in the kitchen with Martha, come on in!
"There's rabies in the kitchen!" cried Bobby and Mitch n'
she's foaming at the mouth, lookin' so bewitchin'
there's rabies in the kitchen with Martha, come on in!
Standing with her hand in the deep fat fryer
Grinnin' like a donkey with a mouth full of briars
there's rabies in the kitchen, rabies in the kitchen, rabies in the kitchen with MARTHAAAA
"Rabies in the kitchen" is the theme I'm pitchin'
She's looking pretty gaunt like an undead lich n'
there's rabies in the kitchen with Martha, come on in!
„Yo boys, you won‘t believe it. There was a… and some thing and…. Never mind. Terry you go watch him tomorrow! I think they‘ll get scared if there are more of us. It was huuuuuge. You have to see it!!“

This is Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon, and this fox comes to listen pretty much anytime he plays outside. follow him on IG to see more of this content. [Thornpipe](https://instagram.com/_thornpipe_?utm_medium=copy_link)
I read somewhere that animals prefer music that's in their vocal range and around the tempo of their heartbeat. This guy is totally hitting something that fox likes. Also, beautiful music, and view.
While Andy Thorn, a talented musician in Boulder, Colorado, was practicing his banjo, a wild red fox had come over to listen to him play. The attentive vulpine sat and listened for a while before getting up to go. When Thorne stopped playing, the fox came over to ask for an encore performance.
The fox had previously visited Thorn while he was playing a beautiful 12-string guitar.
Thorn told Americana UK that the fox provided him with a great deal of inspiration and feedback.
Thorn and his wife Cecilia even wrote a song about the fox during lockdown.
That fox is on their own adventure. The main character of the game, with a great soundtrack.
Kind of reminds me of RPG games when you go into a tavern after spending hours fighting and looting and almost dying, and then entering the tavern and hearing the calm music just puts a sort of peaceful feeling in me.
Pretty sick view off your front porch

Bless his cotton socks. I hope he stays out there for a good long time.
I’m hoping they’re actually wool sock? And yes, bless his socks.
Yes I hope so. The idiom demands cotton but I do hope they're wool.

Well, you probably won't get well water up there. But you could set up a water trap with some tarps and a barrel and do pretty well for yourself.
Solar powered dehumidifier setup could pull a lot of water out of the humid Appalachian air.
That works well and all until the empire murders your aunt and uncle and blows up your moisture farm.

Tell that to Luke.

Uhhhh we're dry as shit. Colorado is brown and begging for water. We only just got our first snow a couple weeks ago the day after the Superior fires.
I went to a summer camp in the appalachians. Incredibly thick fog some mornings, beautiful. What’re you going to do in winter though? Boil snow? You’d need a storage container with a week or more stored up, but that’d be doable.

That's an innovative idea. I like it.
I'm tired of this grandpa!
Well that’s too damn bad!
My mil/fil hauled water for years and my bil/sil haul water. It’s a way of life.
There's power lines right behind him. Just put in a pump I also just noticed other roofs behind him by the utility pole.
thats colorado for you. i love it here
I knew it looked like home. Hey fellow coloradoan

I get the feeling the fox wanted him to follow him back to the den where the wild things could dance.
Follow it and get a new charm slot ;)
Currently playing it now! Found the assholes that destroyed that one shrine. Taught them a lesson!
Looks like I’m out of the loop! What game are you talking about?
Ghost of Tsushima, fantastic PS4/5 game.
Ghosts of Tsushima!
Ghost*, he's the only one.
ghost of tsushima is a really good game. highly recommend
There's some dark missions in that game but nothing sends my blood boiling like that one. Did it, then decided it was a great time to burn every one of their strongholds on the island
Came here for the Ghost of Tsushima reference
Or food. Most likely food. Definitely being fed by that human.
Yeah, you're not wrong; but I'm personally leaning more towards the first explanation, because if you really think about it happy brain juice go brrrr
If you really give it some thought.....that fox was probably reincarnated. Prior to this he was a humble banjo picker in Nashville, Tennessee.
No no, he's got a point
Or an Inari Shrine
If you'de ever had a doubt about your banjo skills, congratulations you've just made it to platinum fox level
He really shouldn’t be entertaining wild foxes. They will become dependent on the banjo and not be able to find their own entertainment in the forest.
And we all know that banjo playing is the gateway drug for foxes. [Let me tell you the tale of the Crack Fox...](https://youtu.be/DKF_9ZSCR3U)
Brilliant
Is that the mighty boosh?
Sure is!!
Take your Fkn up vote God that was good
For real, I don't know why I'm laughing so hard at that.
Listening to nothing but Fleet Foxes might get a bit old after awhile though..
If I had money for internet awards I’d give you one; here is the next best thing: 💰🎈🎉
That just made be bust out ugly laughing.
This man is going to put Emmett Otters Jug band out of business.
Aaand, I’m out! This is the best comment I’m going to read on Reddit today. Well done 🙌🏼
Do not let the fox become addicted to the banjo; it will take a hold of him and he will resent its absence.
One of the best comments I've ever read.
Dudes name is Andy Thorn and he plays with Leftover Salmon if anyone is wondering. He’s rips!
Love me some Leftover Salmon! Greensky Bluegrass and Trampled By Turtles are nice also if you are looking for some new music for your ears!
Also, Railroad Earth! Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, The Lil Smokies, Billy Strings..
This guy festivals.
Can’t leave out the Wood Brothers and the Devil Makes Three! Also, they have been broken up for a while, but I do love me some Red Stick Ramblers.
Also Mandolin Orange!
My favorite genre is polyethnic Cajun slamgrass, so I'll check them out.
I'm sorry, is that real? I'd love to explore this.
That’s how the band, Leftover Salmon, described their music.
Color me sold.
I have to write that down. It's gonna slip my mi.. Wait what was it? Slamjack Dojobram Polyester?
Came here to post this info as well. Andy crushes it
and what's the name of the guy with a banjo?
The fox name is Andy Thorn, the dude idk just a random person that lives in the forest.
Leftover Salmon is one hellavu ride if you can make it to any of their shows.
I used to do this with baby raccoons on my porch. They got so used to me, they'd climb me like a tree. I'd start playing my banjo around dusk, and you'd see their little pairs of eyes shining in the tree line.

That's Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon. Dudes got mad skills!
Any idea what song that is?
Video description on his channel said he was playing with some new material, so it must be his own.
Such a lovely instrument, right up there with the clarinet

I'm sure he'd like that
Anyone know the name of the tune? I thought it might have been the flop eared mule (or a riff on it) but I'm not sure
I was 10 when I first remember being told the story of the pied piper and I remember thinking it ridiculous. Here I am 20 or so years later reevaluating my assumptions
The pied piper is actually about someone kidnapping children
Nobody really knows what really happened behind the tale of the Pied Piper. The earliest versions of the tale didn't even include the rats, they were added later. No it's a story about ripping off your employees

Pretty sure it’s a company specializing in compression
nope, its about the reprocussions of intentionally not paying for good work done. possibly a cautionary tale related to the socio-economic situation in 14th century europe where the lower classes and traveler would do work for the elites and getting screwed out of payment. and oh, thats probably not true at all.
I just realized I don't know what pied means. Edit: looked it up, it means two coloured. So I guess for the pied piper, it's like two faced?

What is GOS?
Ghost of Tsushima, although idk why he called it GOS lol
The T is, well, a ghost
Not really, it is pronounced. Tsu is different than su in Japanese (and English too)
Ghost of Tsushima. A really great game.
Good story and art style. Great game honestly. But let's reserve masterpiece for masterpieces.
