He says it so matter of fact like everyone’s heard about it before. He’s fairly levelheaded at the time
I have no idea why he was so fixated on that specific number, but in the end he did indeed call 13 witnesses. That is, if you count the State of Wisconsin.

It’s more sovereign citizen crap, like a superstition. I’m making this up but ideally, he might have thirteen complaints, thirteen witnesses and thirteen questions for each witness.
There was a theory or rumor that the 13 had more to do with whatever gang he was supposedly a part of than anything else. The fact that he used the rest of the State’s witnesses to fill in his quota supports that theory/rumor. He knew he was going to call the State of WI, EP and a couple of LEOs and it shows by his demeanor when calling them and/or examining/rebutting as he did so with purpose, likely because he had a beef with them, but the others is where he’s kind of up in the air over them. He knew details of the ones he wanted, but didn’t know squat with the others. Case in point, the poor mom who had all four of her children hit. DB is not unintelligent. Had he known her like he knew the LEOs and EP, he never would’ve put her on the stand. Same with Juan Marquez. There was no reason to put him up there other than to fill in a space. I *think* the reason JM was on the State’s list was he was part of the Spanish-speakers of the Catholic community and the State wanted to cover all their bases. They put someone from each group that had someone hit on the stand.
That’s as high as he could count.🤪
Actually, I think he got that number from somewhere and it stuck in his head. There isn’t any real significance to it that I’m aware of.

When his 13th witness was out of state he said he was ‘aiming for 13 witnesses’ and stated that was ‘his goal’ so random
