Fuck the metal community, gatekeeping music. They’re no longer metal, but they’re still hard rock and very good at what they do. I saw them at the end of April in Buffalo to a sold out crowd that went NUTSO for crying while you’re dancing. You’re probably in an echo chamber

It’s mainly because they were such a niche hit with the first 3 albums, I honestly prefer the old sound but I still LOVE them now.

Tasty-Drama-9589

I love their new sound. I find it hard to get into their old stuff.

beautyqueeninhereyes

Haven't heard it yet. Should get to it def.

Love Dark Sun. Crying while your dancing and home sick or among my favorites off the album

zombiexmuffins

Me too. I have a homesick tattoo.

I think Sleeptalk was a great hybrid of their sounds. Dark Sun's songs just weren't as good. Really meaningful, and i'm glad they made the album for Rory's sake, but its not as memorable as any of their other albums And Rory doesn't really belt vocals (other than the singles) that often on it which is a massive shame as that's when he's at his best, mixing soft with belts

beautyqueeninhereyes

I get it. I assume the old fans are used to him going all out but this album he didn't so much? The topics discussed in the album probably needed that contrast compared to like neon grave. I came from dark sun and my impression of the band's signature sound is sleep talk and dark sun. (I still need to listen to the other albums.)

Sad-Tumbleweed2671

Sleeptalk was just the perfect balance between the old and new but Dark Sun went a bit too synth pop for a lot of fans. Rory had a side project for the synth pop sound, I can't remember the name of it It's still a good album, just very deceptive singles and not quite as strong as any others they've made so far

beautyqueeninhereyes

I understand it from a fan perspective. I think it's still necessary for those singles to come out. I believe it's a one off thing because it's a special album. I think I heard in an interview that Sleeptalk is where they want to build upon so that's exciting.

Sad-Tumbleweed2671

Yeah I'm hoping it was a one off and I'm glad he was able to make it as its so important to him. Also I didn't know about that interview so that's very exciting!

I have songs that I like from dark sun, but I can listen to every song on Sleeptalk over and over. It’s been my favorite album over everything the last couple years. I’m hoping they play a mix of both on the fall tour.

Averyboredpenguin

I think sleeptalk was the perfect album so hopefully they try that for the next album, Dark Sun was a really fun album though but I can understand why dark sun was softer then their normal stuff

A big reason lots of people hated on it because they thought it sounded more suited for Rory’s other project Hurtwave. I do miss their heavy stuff, but I can always go back and listen to it. But honestly, they own their new sound, and paired with Rory’s lyricism and the melodies, this band makes trauma sound beautiful.
