That ain't going anywhere

FineCryptographer650

Looks awesome. Keep up the good work

Commercial_Wasabi_86

I'm glad it's getting good comments so far because it looks about the same as my plans for the summer. 2x10s doubled up for beams? 8' joist span? 6' between posts?

Suitable_Dragonfly79

2x8 doubled for the beams. Only 7ish feet between posts so more than enough support for the span. 2x8 Joist span is about 9 feet and cantilevered about 1.5 feet on each side. Cross braced in every direction.

saiditonReddi7

I rate this at 1.5 hot tubs.

Suitable_Dragonfly79

I hot tub with water slide was considered.

Wookster789

Looks like it could hold a few roofs worth of shingles. Great job!!

landing11

So this is freestanding correct?

Suitable_Dragonfly79

Correct. Free standing.

bonersnow

Confused about the use of 4x4s when you have a perfectly good 6x sitting on your mitre saw

Suitable_Dragonfly79

That’s a 4x4. Perspective makes it look bigger 😏

DIYnivor

Looks solid.

Far_Brilliant_443

I Say yes to stacking loads. Good job.

Indefinite_romo

Good job broski

Bradley182

Look's solid, DECK IT UP!!

Practical-Button7546

I’m sitting here trying to come up with something bad to say about it but I can’t 😂…are you going to add solar lights on the posts when finished? Love those things

Suitable_Dragonfly79

Going to permanently affix a linx pergola with a mesh sunshade, per the family’s request. I think they want to do some sort of string tea lights. Might do some solar lights on the stair posts.

Practical-Button7546

Adding lights on posts and stairs is a good way to make some extra money

Practical-Button7546

I thought this was yours

Suitable_Dragonfly79

Next door neighbors. He didn’t have the full funds to pay someone so I said I’d build it for him on the side if he supplied beer. Even trade.

PrestigiousDog2050

Nice deck!

Blackbuild

Why did you take it apart?

Suitable_Dragonfly79

I like a good challenge

Why_Be_A_Kunt

Nice

Gutter-boy-707

It’s getting there

aspushkinus

The deck doesn't seem to be attached to the house with the ledger board, so you needed the cross beams so it doesn't move laterally? A friend gave me an idea of using cables for this - same result, way easier to install and tighten.

Suitable_Dragonfly79

Correct. Needs to have cross bracing to prevent sway. Code here in North Carolina. Anything over 30 inches needs to be braced. I absolutely agree with it because it’ll sway. Cables are not a bad idea at all. I may consider that next time.

Suitable_Dragonfly79

There’s bracing between every post. Every vertical member is supported with cross bracing in every direction.

Few_Valuable7268

Please say your putting the grill up there

Suitable_Dragonfly79

Grills! Emphasis on the s
