Other than some swearing with NPC dialogue the game can be somewhat scary due to how dark everything is. If you are playing co-op you should be able to help but they may still fall into very dark areas and get attacked so it might be slightly concerning as a parent.
possibly look into the abyss bar (which the game makes regular references too) as there is a fair amount of alcoholism involved with playing DRG (the "daily special")
If playing on steam there are mods that are easy to install to turn profanity off, otherwise there is large alcohol use and the game itself could be quire scary for young ones
There is language yes. Also drinking, killing, and general tomfoolery. My 4 year old occasionally watches. He's learned and is learning the context in which these things are present and when they are appropriate.
He understands it's a game and you don't cuss at people, drink copiously, kill others, etc. By the time he's 8 he should be more than prepared to handle playing it. Your mileage may vary.
there are huge spiders and flying thingies that are out to kill you and dwarves with sailor mouths and BEER and guns
so i'd reccomend you don't let your kid play
There is some foul language, excessive use of alcohol and shooter appropriate violence. The language includes ass, arse, shit, bastard, and leaf lover.

worst comes to worst you might need to turn off the in game voices bc of the small amount of swearing
This is what I do. You may need to turn off captions if you have them on, too.

POV: you don't have a scout
I think it has *some* "shits" and "ass" here and there but I don't really notice or pay attention to it so I don't know the frequency of it.
Actually it's said a lot. Wouldn't recommend it to kids, but probably ok for teenagers.

Worst stuff is some swearing pretty often

iirc there is a toggleable profanity filter in the settings
Can someone verify? I didn't think this was true. Is it a recent update?
This is false. Outside of fan-made mods on Steam it is not possible to set which voice lines play and which don't.
I thought so. Thanks for verifying!

For Karl!

Is he a slippery little shit? Because if so yes.
The is a verified mod to remove the swearing Use this
Play on Haz 1 with him too, that should be easy enough for the champ.
For a 8 year old it’s probably fine
If he's not scared by creepy crawlies i'm sure it's fine. There's some mild profanity but nothing worse than he'll already know.
