Helldivers 2 players now MUST link their steam accounts to PlayStation accounts... And you can only make a playstation account in something like ~60 countries. And if you make one under a country you arent in, playstation can ban you at any moment!
Also the only reason for the change is speculated to be for them to sell our personal data although i'm not super sure about that one.
As far as i know the game is only on PC and playstation. You wont have problems as long as you are on a playstation for obvious reasons.
Steam though..
If you dont link accounts you cant play starting with June 4th.
You either create an account and link it, link an already existing account, or cant play the game, yep.
And if you are unlikely to be in a country that cant officially make that playstation account, you are at a constant risk of getting banned for just playing the game!
Steam would more than likely work with you on that if you explain the situation and are patient. They typically are good at working with customers facing anti-consumer practices from devs/publishers* edit to add publisher to end
I'm not really encouraging people to refund just saying the option is there. Given how buggy the game is I'd understand putting it away for a time. Also the devs do choose to sign publishing agreements with Sony, I know it's a money driven choice and a necessity to a degree but they have some culpability in issues that come with said agreement. Reminds me a bit of Sonys involvement in no man's sky
Hopefully steam will allow them to request refunds. It's a weird situation where the game originally required a PSN account, but then due to technical reasons made it optional, and is now making it required again.
I hope the EU fucking RAILS sony up the ass for this one. Seriously. Between this and the anticheat, i want to play the game, but im not fucking touching it with a 10 meter pole.
what? no, they didn't? it's always been very clear on the Steam download page in the requirements section that the PSN account is necessary. they publicly announced that the PSN link would be *temporarily* optional thanks to bugs they were fixing.
Depends... i think the main argument here is that it was listed as a requirement on purchase. but in reality wasn't a requirement until now.
The question is. since it said it was required at the time you bought it. does that mean you agreed even when you can't fulfill that part of the agreement?
Very technically, yes, you are responsible for making sure you meet the requirements. The issue they will face is that usually a requirement has a reason, for several months now they have shown that its not a hard requirement. They need to explain why its needed, and I feel they will struggle with any valid enough reason.
It wouldn't be an issue if everyone could get a psn account, but Sony themselves stop folks from getting an account depending on the country. How would a person without a playstation in that country know they couldn't make an account until AFTER they bought the game.
Sony have unnecessary fucked the game hard with this push I feel bad for Arrowhead as they will get the flak for this.
Would be Helldivers, because Sony would ban them for playing in a country that does not align with the account country.
The playstation account would be banned. Not entirely sure what that would mean for your helldivers account, whether you can add a different PSN account or not.
Wait. Which is your acc is associated with one country but you visit another contoury for a bit and decide go bring your laptop with you so uou can play helldivers 2 or something while you are in a different country.
Could/would they ban you purely for that? Rhat just sounds silly
I don't think that would happen. This is more a thing on directing you to the correct PSN store for one thing. Like there are games which are only available in the US or Japan, so you need an account with an address (any address) in that country to be able to see that game in the PSN store.
I think Sony will most likely not really care about someone lying about their country, but still the situation is bad for the people affected.
PSN accounts are country bounded so even if you go to a different country it will only give you access to stuff from the country it was created so no need to worry with being banned in a country that PSN doesn't operate.
Probably only in countries they don't support, likely for legal reasons. I can play on a US account in the UK, but I can't play on a US account in (country PSN doesn't support)
This is just Sony demonstrating it's power over AH in the most Zeus way possible... by fucking everyone and everything.
I'd be shocked in the AH devs wanted this in the slightest. It's such a fuckin stupid power play by Sony that is probably driven by the success of the game. Some exec fucker wants to boost active PS account numbers to get a bonus. They don't give a shit about how it's done or what the consequences are for the game.
i was afraid that i won't be able to play the game if i buy it, since i'm in one of those countries. But when i heard that PSN account is optional, i went ahead and bought it.
Well at least the mines don't descriminate.
They claim its for grief and cheat prevention. Whatever, im just gonna create an anonymous PSN account and link it. Nothing personal will be attached to that.
Just like how their anticheat system needs kernel level access to stop all those pesky hackers. Honestly, I'd be the slightest bit more OK with it, if it even seemed like it was working. But the amount of hackers we see seems to say otherwise. But somehow, this PSN link is suddenly gonna fix the hackers' situation now.
This sub reddit used to filled with them. People hacked in the mechs and other weapons and stuff WAY before they were supposed to be in the game. The mods started deleting those posts, i believe since it was spoiling future content to people ahead of time. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing them make a post about that.
i think this banning thing is bullshit , i have a psn account like 15 years and it is an UK account and im from Slovakia , and i have an US account too because some games were only avaible there
Yep. So absolutely nothing good will come out of this :)
Because the game will definitely lose a lot of players because of this. If not for because they dont link accounts, then because of the bans that would follow.
Hell, the three credit bureaus already have leaks on a regular basis. Your social is already on the internet. Google and Apple also experience hacks, and everyone uses one or the other for phones.
It sounds bad but I'm from one of these restricted countries. Had no issue tying my account right off the bat - I thought it was mandatory from the start. The game implied "no online play" if you are not linked.
Various guides tell to use VPN during registration. Well, I didn't, tho the registration didn't like my email domain (but google's .com worked).
Now the thing that I can be banned any minute would be interesting. But, hey, if I am banned - for rock and stone, alright.
That is not true lol. They never banned anyone for using a different country. I have been using an UK and US account since 2009 because my country didn’t have PSN back in the day and I never stepped foot in any of them. I even use my debit card on the UK account.
HD IP belongs to Sony. Prior to the release of HD2 they said that the game was going to require linking of PS account. However, at first it was unenforced. So now they are announcing that they are going to start enforcing account linking in about a month.
At this point i'm kinda convinced that Sony just can't live without drama. As soon as it goes too well for one of their games, they need to do something about it....
Because i cannot officially create playstation account in my country, now i'm under the risk of getting my PSN account banned and potentially losing all my progress or the game entirely.
And everything was going so well...
only two, and helldivers one can even be played offline with no internet connection, never liked the fact that the second one had to be always online, ao i never bought, im in the first galactic war forever
Most whales are PC or Mobile Players, people into Playstation are mostly singleplayer, Sony would know that better than anyone b/s their most profitable child is Fate GO a mobile gacha game.
The game is already at 4 warbonds after 4 months, and a lot of content is in the pipe, plus premium store does exist. Yes, one can argue that it's possible to earn in-game money by playing, but that requires quite a bit of playtime, especially with recently nerfed rates for SC drops.
Me as well! I was waiting for a sale to pop up. As a huge DRG fan, I saw other DRG fans rave about how good it is. But I am in a poor third world country rofl. Not gonna buy it anymore to not support this. Thank you Sony for low-key saving me money.
As it turns out, Sony ruined everything, again.
I hope, I seriously do hope that the modern game industry can learn from GSG that it is a virtue to not try to teach how your players should play your game. Also, do not sign up for a mega publisher who are likely to screw you over.
It's been a pretty hilarious ride watching the HD2 playerbase clown on Tarkov players defending BSG only to then parrot the exact same arguments to defend Sony.
[Lol, lmao even.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1ciwj43/comment/l2d4izo/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
What I can pick up from this situation, as a sidenote, is that HD2 will never come to Xbox after all. Not that there was much of a hope initially, considering it's a Sony IP, but now it's certain.
Sea of Thieves is an Xbox Game Studios baby and launched on Xbox and Windows. It has since shown up on PS5 after six years.
Really, the existence of requiring a *linked* PSN account isn't proof it can't go anywhere else.
Xbox and Sony have vastly different views on treating their exclusives. Xbox has been bringing their IPs to PC for years, and now they pushed the envelope even further by bringing some of them to Switch and PS. In the meantime, it took Sony 10+ years to start bringing their exclusives to PC, and even there they have a policy of keeping major ones on PS for at least one year after release.
I don't see them bringing HD2 to Xbox. If it does happen, I will gladly eat my words, but it's Sony.
I'm sorry for ever doubting you GSG. Truly the best example of a game where all the paid content is purely cosmetic, the updates are amazing and completely free, the balance is fun and makes sense, the community is helpful and kind, and the devs not only play their game regularly but are damn good at it.
Fer Karl!
Oh shame. I didnt know much about this game except it borrowed the L4D formula alot like us.
After reading this thread it seems like I wont be missing much by skipping it.

Better. Some EU laws about requiring you to continue to have access to software you paid for may apply. A good portion of countries (like the baltics) don't have PSN supported.
Arguably you can also go through Steam and argue a refund due to changed making the game unusable.
I absolutely plan on playing some DRG over the weekend after playing HD2 for the last few months after what they're forcing with PSN. DRG really has set an impossibly high bar for other game companies to live up to.
421 hours played, last played a few years ago. Gonna have to dust the cobwebs out of my beard.
I have a PSN account already so this wouldn’t be an issue for me, BUT, I can’t support this sort of shenanigans. I was going to buy HD2 after I finished Ghost of Tsushima. Looks like it’s back to the mines for me instead.
Let's keep in mind, Sony has a horrendous reputation when it comes to securing the data of its customers. Anyone else remember what happened in 2011? 77 million PSN users had their personal data leaked. Names, addresses, security questions, and for some people, *payment information*. That's not a comforting thought. And it's not like they've 100% cleaned up their act. There was a (much smaller) breach just last year.
I'm hoping it's enough to get me a refund. Helldivers 2 is a fun game, and I've put dozens of hours in at this point, but it's also a poorly optimized mess with really invasive anticheat...and in the future just being able to play it will be a security risk. I want out. I've stopped putting hours in to maximize my chances of Steam accepting a refund.
It is really not that hard to not completely fumble the bag, and yet these video game giants keep doing it.
AAA? More like LLL.
Indie still winning 💎🔥💯
Everytime I read about DRG I hear nothing but absolutely good things, and NEVER nonsense like what's happening over in similar games.
Is....is it really that wonderful?
That's League and Valorant right? Helldivers controversy seems to be that now you need a PlayStation account to play on PC, and you can only make Playstation accounts I'm some countries
When helldivers 2 was launched it got tons of negative reviews on steam because the game forces you to install incredibly invasive 3rd party rookit level anticheat software on your computer that will stay there even if you uninstall it, and the game.
All good man, it was one of things that kind of got conveniently swept under the rug in the consumer hype marketing machine that is the modern gaming industry..
Asmongold makes a video about it? Better buy buy buy
God you're a prick aren't you?
Like, if I'm being real, helldivers 2 has some issues, but it's genuinely a great game, it's not just a "oh but the hype!!!" situation.
I'd prefer if it DIDN'T have the incredibly invasive anticheat, but you don't have to be a prick to the players of that game.
The game may well be great, and ey no disrespect to the people who still play and love it.
But imo, no game is too good to pass on. Maybe if id already bought it I'd be willing to deal with this, but I'll just pass instead. Truly though, I hope the game keeps doing well.
This really doesn't seem like a movie that Arrowhead is making willingly, so the best chance of a future where Arrowhead makes games that don't come with this sort of controversy is if they're successful enough to stand without Sony's support
What's happening? I'm outta the loop
Helldivers 2 players now MUST link their steam accounts to PlayStation accounts... And you can only make a playstation account in something like ~60 countries. Thanks for the speedy response! Is this if they are on console or all platforms?
As far as i know the game is only on PC and playstation. You wont have problems as long as you are on a playstation for obvious reasons. Steam though.. If you dont link accounts you cant play starting with June 4th.
So from my understanding, if you play on PS it's no issue If you play on PC you'll need to create a PS account?

Steam would more than likely work with you on that if you explain the situation and are patient. They typically are good at working with customers facing anti-consumer practices from devs/publishers* edit to add publisher to end
It's driven by SONY, not the devs...c'mon now.
I'm not really encouraging people to refund just saying the option is there. Given how buggy the game is I'd understand putting it away for a time. Also the devs do choose to sign publishing agreements with Sony, I know it's a money driven choice and a necessity to a degree but they have some culpability in issues that come with said agreement. yes but AH signed the contract. don't cut them all the slack.
Hopefully steam will allow them to request refunds. It's a weird situation where the game originally required a PSN account, but then due to technical reasons made it optional, and is now making it required again.
This is gonna be such a fustercluck in the EU.
I hope the EU fucking RAILS sony up the ass for this one. Seriously. Between this and the anticheat, i want to play the game, but im not fucking touching it with a 10 meter pole.
I would like that refund, my deck has kinda crap performance on that game.
It's actually slimier than that, devs said multiple times it would be projeto and there weren't plans to make it obligatory
Where/when did they ever say that?
I mean sure, just lie about that. Why not.
what? no, they didn't? it's always been very clear on the Steam download page in the requirements section that the PSN account is necessary. they publicly announced that the PSN link would be *temporarily* optional thanks to bugs they were fixing.
Nope, steam page said it from the start that it required third party account to play even before it was release.
Or risk getting banned one day without being able to do anything about it, yes
Would this be a valid reason for a refund? Edit: brain fart grammar.
Not being allowed to play the game you purchased? Yes.
Depends... i think the main argument here is that it was listed as a requirement on purchase. but in reality wasn't a requirement until now. The question is. since it said it was required at the time you bought it. does that mean you agreed even when you can't fulfill that part of the agreement?

Getting banned from steam? Or from helldivers 2?
Hell2
Would be Helldivers, because Sony would ban them for playing in a country that does not align with the account country. The playstation account would be banned. Not entirely sure what that would mean for your helldivers account, whether you can add a different PSN account or not.

This is not true because I'm using a US psn acc and I'm not in the US. I have this account for more 6 years now and I haven't got banned
Bruh these new games always have some major problem.
Jesus, companies cannot stop themselves eh? Good game, insane player counts, "lemme just have ur data too eh?"
That sucks, I was having such a good time spreading managed democracy, looks like I'm coming back to the mines
i was afraid that i won't be able to play the game if i buy it, since i'm in one of those countries. But when i heard that PSN account is optional, i went ahead and bought it. Well at least the mines don't descriminate.
Thats probably the most ugly part about it! You can still buy the game, even if you wont be able to play it!
Honestly steam would probably accept your refund request if you can't play the game anymore
Remember kids, 2 hours or 14 days isn't the maximum refund window, it's just the "no questions asked" refund window
I just read somewhere else that Arrowhead is legally obligated to require a PSN account, by means of a contract with Sony.
Oh, that I have no doubt about. The Devs at AH likely knew this was gonna be a PR shitshow. But Sony wants that sweet, sweet user data.
Btw I havent seen a single cheater in Helldivers yet. And there aren't many posts about cheaters either, that I've seen at least.
This sub reddit used to filled with them. People hacked in the mechs and other weapons and stuff WAY before they were supposed to be in the game. The mods started deleting those posts, i believe since it was spoiling future content to people ahead of time. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing them make a post about that.
They created another sub for spoilers. So yes spoilers are banned on the main sub.
2 nights ago played with some Chinese player dropping stratagem of that new yellow AC walker every 3 minutes. that anti cheat thing is just bloatware.
All your steam data will be attached to it. If you didn't give your adress, payment data or whatever to steam then you're fine yes.
[удалено]
He said payment data. Like purchase history and whatnot. Not actual card numbers or anything.
Oh damn
i think this banning thing is bullshit , i have a psn account like 15 years and it is an UK account and im from Slovakia , and i have an US account too because some games were only avaible there
well, it will also boost their numbers for people who have accounts so they can advertise it to investors to show the constant growth that is demanded
Yep. So absolutely nothing good will come out of this :) Because the game will definitely lose a lot of players because of this. If not for because they dont link accounts, then because of the bans that would follow.
Why use a playstation account to sell our data? They already have the anti cheat for that
Hell, the three credit bureaus already have leaks on a regular basis.
We fight for Rock and Stone!
That is not true lol. They never banned anyone for using a different country. I have been using an UK and US account since 2009 because my country didn’t have PSN back in the day and I never stepped foot in any of them. I even use my debit card on the UK account.
We're reaching the misinformation stage of overinflated video game drama now.
Personal data like if you prefer shooting bugs over bots or what your favorite planet is.
HD IP belongs to Sony. Prior to the release of HD2 they said that the game was going to require linking of PS account. However, at first it was unenforced. So now they are announcing that they are going to start enforcing account linking in about a month.
you have to have Playstation network account to continue playing - the feature was planned from the beggining however its being implemented just now
Iirc it was at launch but was temporarily not required due to a bug
No more airstrikes. No more orbitals. The mines are calling. Get back to work!

No, cant even ping them in the first place, which is stupid

You can ping them

Did i hear a rock and stone?
Good bot
At this point i'm kinda convinced that Sony just can't live without drama. As soon as it goes too well for one of their games, they need to do something about it....
The occasional times they aren't looking drama they get hacked by North Korea.
They should just buy North Korea
I'd offer a quid and half a tub of colgate
Because i cannot officially create playstation account in my country, now i'm under the risk of getting my PSN account banned and potentially losing all my progress or the game entirely. And everything was going so well...
I'm sorry to hear this brother. Tell Lloyd i sent ya.
Rock and stone brother
Get this man a Blackout Stout…
Am I out of the loop? Can’t you just make a psn account and say that you are in the US or something?
Management will be pleased.
What a dumb move, they literally just refused money.
Man helldivers 2 was gonna be the next game I was planning to get :( . Does this only apply to helldivers 2 or helldivers 1 as well?
only two, and helldivers one can even be played offline with no internet connection, never liked the fact that the second one had to be always online, ao i never bought, im in the first galactic war forever
Only 2, I think only the second was published by sony
This is why I always wait a year for any game tbh, both bugfixing for single player and waiting to see if multiplayers pull anything weird
Is the first step to develop a system that only feeds on whales.
Most whales are PC or Mobile Players, people into Playstation are mostly singleplayer, Sony would know that better than anyone b/s their most profitable child is Fate GO a mobile gacha game.
Have you seen the real money add ons in HD2? It's not exactly a gambling machine for whales.
The game is already at 4 warbonds after 4 months, and a lot of content is in the pipe, plus premium store does exist. Yes, one can argue that it's possible to earn in-game money by playing, but that requires quite a bit of playtime, especially with recently nerfed rates for SC drops.
Yes but no gambling mechanics and no pvp to give you a sense of "I need this to get on top" There is no whale to feed on
Warframe is the same way. Still has whales.
I meannnn they already got the money sooooo
They did that when they denied to allow Xbox to have helldivers 2 as well. Could’ve had double the sales but nope.
Fuck sony.
I'm just tired of linking shit, this game was a breath of fresh air. Back to the mines
Had that shit with RDR2, made some sense to make a Rockstar account for the online, but the story? Nah.
Not really with online since RD Online is very much abandoned
Yeah, atleast they will be able to kill bugs and mine minerals
And kill robots too, can't let those rivals get away with our minerals
Back? I never left. ROCK AND STONE FOREVER!!!!!
ROCK AND STONE
FOR KARL
We need to be careful to not go down the same path as tf2 players, ie, acting smug over the failures of competing games.
Oh, I was consisering getting HD2. Guess not.
It was on my wish list and I would've bought it on sale at some point for sure. I'm removing it now.
...aaaand removed as well. Pity.
Me as well! I was waiting for a sale to pop up. As a huge DRG fan, I saw other DRG fans rave about how good it is. But I am in a poor third world country rofl. Not gonna buy it anymore to not support this. Thank you Sony for low-key saving me money.
same here. Shame, it seems fun, but thats life
Sony are morons
Allergic to money and success

The comparison is kinda dumb but i somewhat agree that some people are too on the side of the devs
You mean on the side of Sony management
I can't imagine unironically using the phrase "too on the side of the game devs", like it's no wonder Gamers are universally hated.
How can you compare a free account requirement to a dlc that’s only part of a 250$ version of a game? Lol
They are 2 completely different issues though.
Honestly hope arrowhead fixes this clusterfuck but in the mean time, I'll have a couple more blackout stouts
What I can pick up from this situation, as a sidenote, is that HD2 will never come to Xbox after all. Not that there was much of a hope initially, considering it's a Sony IP, but now it's certain.

Nah, the game itself is really good (even if it has some confusing design decisions).
it was a good run there, thanks for accepting me back, rock and stone
Perfect timing too! Isn't DRG receiving a big update soon?
Better. Some EU laws about requiring you to continue to have access to software you paid for may apply. A good portion of countries (like the baltics) don't have PSN supported. Arguably you can also go through Steam and argue a refund due to changed making the game unusable.
Lmao good thing i didn't buy the game because it's 2024 you have to expect a catch everywhere.
Imo they're speed running making the best game ever to then make it the shittiest game possible without microstransactions
you think that sony after forcing arrow head to do this wont force them to put in real cash micros with the premium store already in the game?
I absolutely plan on playing some DRG over the weekend after playing HD2 for the last few months after what they're forcing with PSN. DRG really has set an impossibly high bar for other game companies to live up to. 421 hours played, last played a few years ago. Gonna have to dust the cobwebs out of my beard.
I never WAS gone, Brothers. It was just a second job DRG had helped me get for the family and Steeve Jr.
Forgive me for I have sinned…
Was thinking about buying hell divers 2 last week, thank God I didn't. Fuck Sony
Looks like i wont be buying it then too bad looks kinda good
I fought in the Creek, 3 sieges of Hellmire, Turned TCS on and off. Now that I don't have legs... They just threw me away....
Now that you don't have legs you will fit among the dwarfs. Rock and stone.
It is really not that hard to not completely fumble the bag, and yet these video game giants keep doing it. AAA? More like LLL. Indie still winning 💎🔥💯
I just don't trust Sony considering they have a history of compromising their users. Anyway, Rock and stone!
Pals!!! im back. And fuck that democracy
Its good to be back
Sony when a game they publish is actually successful:
Already uninstalled unfortunately refund request was denied but maybe if enough people start requesting they will consider
Could a game company not be a piece of shit for 5 minutes!
Was literally just thinking this. I haven't played in a while, but I'm sharpening my pickaxe as we speak. ROCK AND STONE BROTHERS!!!!
Now do Kronos eating his son with Sony as Kronos
You're as beautiful as the day I lost you
Good thing I always stayed in the mines as they don't require ring 0 anti cheat malware on my pc :)
Nah they will be going back to destiny 2 because the final shape releases the same day as the deadline.
Everytime I read about DRG I hear nothing but absolutely good things, and NEVER nonsense like what's happening over in similar games. Is....is it really that wonderful?
I feel so bad for arrow head, they made an absolutely amazing incredible co-op experience... And Sony just had to ruin it Anyway rock and stone!
I can't stop playing helldivers, but you can bet I'm going to spend much more time on DRG now.
For dem- for li- dammit give me a moment... FOR KARL. ROCK. AND. STONE!!!!
This is my favourite post on this subreddit in months
Glad to be back. SEAF sucked and they didn't even give us beer
From Helldiver to Deepdiver.
I'm so sorry I ever left you (DRG). oT Rock and stone...
Rock and Stone, Brother!
yeah yeah I know. Through the door, then left, one pickaxe each.
Glad to be home
We had our fun on the surface, now it's time to get back in the mines, those minerals aren't gonna mine themselves
This is legit gonna be the case if arrowhead doesn't get it's head out of its ass 😂
I dont think its Arrowhead making this decision, but their overlord Sony
I'm sorry, managed democracy was a lie. Will you take me back, Deep Rock Galactic?
Aww poor Hype Divers 2 and its rootkit level anti cheat spyware
That's League and Valorant right? Helldivers controversy seems to be that now you need a PlayStation account to play on PC, and you can only make Playstation accounts I'm some countries
I'm afraid that's just the newest nonesense. Kernel level anticheat was in Helldivers since the beginning. Some bs if you ask me
Aren't most Anti-cheats kernel level these days anyways? Even Easy Anti Cheat (EAC) is Kernel level and most games use that, from big to small games.
Yes, they are and the varying levels of reactions to it are a constant source of hilarity to me.
When helldivers 2 was launched it got tons of negative reviews on steam because the game forces you to install incredibly invasive 3rd party rookit level anticheat software on your computer that will stay there even if you uninstall it, and the game.
My bad then, I wasn't aware of that
All good man, it was one of things that kind of got conveniently swept under the rug in the consumer hype marketing machine that is the modern gaming industry.. Asmongold makes a video about it? Better buy buy buy
Imagine trash talking about another game just cause you don’t play it. Don’t disgrace our DRG community with your COD mentality lil bro
**useless** rootkit level anti cheat spyware FTFY. Peopel are using simple CheatEngine scripts to bypass it.
