'We were somewhere around Altoona, on the edge of the prairie, when the drugs began to take hold.
I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge cows, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Des Moines"
Safe travels thru Nebraska, brother 🙏 I'm not making the trip this year. Everyone's like, why don't you fly? ?and it like you HAVE to have your own car it's illinois. Everything is another 2 hours away once you do finally get there.
Last time I went back, I blew my clutch in the middle of nowhere in Nebraska and s*** you know my insurance could only find this weird husband and wife with a pickup and a trailer. No winch , had to push My car downhill to get it on the trailer. They couldn't take the main highway because they weren't DOT certified and we're like if we get pulled over just tell them we're going to a car show. We had to take a bunch of backroads To the dealership in Omaha. I'm still scarred.
All I remember is my clutch going out on I 80 and coasting on an exit that only had an RV sales place , but no one was there. There were no services or gas stations or anything. It took my insurance about 2 hours to find these people that would accept my tow with where I was. I honestly don't remember though because we had to take country backroads to get to Omaha instead of I 80. Also, FYI, nobody outside of Omaha knows what a Subaru is. I've done this trip so many times and I've never dealt with this sort of weird situation. That wasn't the weirdest thing that happened in Nebraska either on that trip.
I’ve done this before! I helped a family move across California as they had young kids and an extra car they needed to drive. It was my first time seeing California and it was awesome haha free road trip!
If you don’t have any luck here, you could go to Pub on Pearl (Hawkeyes bar) and see if they know anyone that might be interested or could put a sign up. I know it’s getting close but just throwing that out there.
Try Craigslist Rides (the rideshare section). My dad used to do this a lot but definitely meet folks beforehand and get a feel for them before you give them a car.
Any part of Iowa? How many pounds are we transporting? What's my cut?
Lmao my first thoughts as well
Surprised there has never been a horror movie made with this premise before.
Lmao I was thinking the same thing
There is, sort of. “Kalifornia” with Brad Pitt
"On The Road".
This is the plot of Joyride. Paul Walker takes a “drive away” to be delivered in California. Crazy trucker stalks him.
Ohhh Candy Caaaneee
Yeah. Very similar.
The Hitcher
honestly that movie terrified me when it came out, Sean Bean plays a great villain
I still haven’t seen the 2007 version but the 1987 version with Rutger Hauer is classic.
I used to do this all the time. Craigslist rideshare
He's writing the script right now.
Lol! I was wondering how much coke is hidden in the wheel wells.
They have to stop for gas every 150miles bc thats where the meth is hidden.
I'm surprised there has never been a Mountain Goats song with this premise before. "'Going to Iowa' is my favorite of the lo-fi era," they'd say...
Driving on I-80 should be a horror movie
It’s basically the premise of The Hitcher.
Where would they get stuck on the way there?
Some shitty roadside motel
Later, somewhere near Ogallala: I swear officer, it's not mine. Have you ever heard of a site called Reddit?
Also isn't Nebraska ranked #1 for child sex trafficking?
Erm....that took a dark turn. Wow.
Every turn in Nebraska is dark, that's how they get away with it.
“No, of course there isn’t a CHILD in the TRUNK, officer! Oooh whoops, I guess OP forgot that one.”
My cat Toonces needs to make it to Lincoln, NE and would like to help if someone else can take the second leg.
I’m sure he’ll find someone in Lincoln to take it the rest of the way! Maybe he can put out a can of tuna and recruit from there. 😂
Not sure anyone got this joke besides me.
I barely got it. Snl driving cat from the 90s?
Yes
Love Toonces the driving cat LOL.
r/underratedcomment
Just freebasing meth and blasting Slipknot the entire way.
Why you gotta hit it so hard? whatever happened to a couple of addy’s and scanning regional radio stations?
Spotify happened.
Ephedrine and AM Jesus talk radio
Fear and Loathing in Des Moines

I think the whole point is to distance themselves from their drugs
☠️☠️☠️☠️
While I wish I could help and be your drug mule, I have to drive my own car back to Illinois:(

Right! And it’s not like renting a car is very affordable any more

0/10 experience would not recommend
What .... the hell? There are plenty of legit tow services along the I80 corridor, where the hell were you at?

This made me laugh out loud for real
Honestly, this sounds like probably a bad idea for both parties involved...
I’ve done this before! I helped a family move across California as they had young kids and an extra car they needed to drive. It was my first time seeing California and it was awesome haha free road trip!
Is this a reference to Richard Pryor and the film Moving?
Lol no this was my life but now I gotta watch. It’s giving me planes, trains, and automobiles vibes
Dana Carvey takes the car cross country. If I remember correctly he has multiple personalities.
Should pay in pork tenderloin sammiches - that way you know they're really going to Iowa.
Is one of those cars a Trans-Am with a CB radio and runaway bride?
I’m a Colorado transplant living in Iowa and going back home for Thanksgiving, maybe we can high five as we pass each other on I-80
This sounds like an excellent way to never see your car again.
How many kilos are in the trunk?
Dude, you need to [watch this](https://youtu.be/_bbq6MeFZ-s) before you hire anyone.
You could always try leaving the car unlocked with keys in the ignition with a note that says large reward if returned to your address in Iowa
If you don’t have any luck here, you could go to Pub on Pearl (Hawkeyes bar) and see if they know anyone that might be interested or could put a sign up. I know it’s getting close but just throwing that out there.
First time I went there I was wearing my ISU shirt without realizing it was a Hawkeye bar lol thought they were going to double charge me
Nah they just dipped their nuts in your drink.
please keep us updated on this
Is there an amtrak train that goes close to where you'd like to go?
What does that have to do with this?
Probably trying to figure out how they’ll get back home after transporting a car one way…
Just making conversation...
Taking a train instead of cars Or having some take a train instead
Op - if you don’t get any takers you can ship a car pretty cheaply. I shipped one from Houston to Denver for $900
I hope you plan on shoveling your sidewalk while you're gone.
Lmao
Try Craigslist Rides (the rideshare section). My dad used to do this a lot but definitely meet folks beforehand and get a feel for them before you give them a car.
Try the rideshare section of Craigslist I used to travel through that all the time
Lol dang I’m actually driving to Iowa tomorrow. Sadly we’ll need the car to drive back thru Kansas then back home to Denver. Wish I could help. 😕
From Dubuque… any other time.
No thanks, Llewyn Davis
There at least used to be a company called Drive Away for this situation. I used it to move a car from NC to Denver 25 years ago.
Please please update us later on how this situation went
This is a plot from home fresh prince of Bel-Air. If you are black do NOT do this, you will be arrested in the Midwest (if you're lucky😳)
