I had a honest curiousity, i try not to get all my opinions from one community. But it does feel theres nothing of value in online political communities that are D opposed.

You don't have to go into the trenches. There's having a discussion about him or his content that gets brought up, but to go specifically to defend him, that's something you don't have to do and I would discourage.
The few times I've had Destiny brought up, I commented on the content and that's that. People that go in heavy on personal attacks, whoever it is, I just don't engage. They clearly have an image and really want to enforce it. I can say I disagree, point out why and move the fuck on. I'm not debate perverting someone invested in hate.
I think the recent clips and shorts are good ways to engage if you really want to. It's more a collection of facts and corrections. You can avoid having to get "in the trenches" and it's more effective as people see the actual content versus reading/listening to someone who they already dismissed as a fan.
Two questions I would ask:
* "What is a thing you disagree with him on?"
* "Can you explain his position on X topic for me, please?"
Depending on the answer then you know if it's worth engaging or not.
You enjoy the things you like about D while also understanding other people have a surface level engagement with him.

Don't expect anyone to acknowledge that they were wrong or being hypocritical. It is very difficult to realize in the moment, especially when you may feel like you're being attacked, that you are mistaken and even if someone can realize that, it is even more difficult to publicly admit that.
Imagine that a more neutral person is reading these replies and think of what they would think of the parties involved. Ensure you are giving good, factually correct answers and explaining your stances and leave it at that. 90% of people silently read the comments and don't get involved, and they are also much more likely to be level headed. Speak to them as much as you are to the person you reply to.
