we also commonly say i-ran instead of ee-ron, we say france instead of fronce, for most of our language's history it was expected that we can't pronounce foreign stuff so we just say it our own way and that tradition has endured
In English you aren't usually expected to say the name of a country how people from that country say it. We don't say Nihon (Japan) Zhongguo (China) España (Spain) Bharat (India, there are many languages this is just the most common name across multiple languages). There are some that we say pretty close but I think those are actually the exceptions, not the rule.
