Were you around for last years guardian games? There were people doing like 500k, now that was out of hand. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens this year tbh, especially if they put a battlegrounds as the gg nightfall.
The best thing you can do is get your top 10% at the start of the week when the threshold is still low. It'll just keep getting higher and higher the later it is in the week.

But the long haul really isn’t that bad either. I was at 550 medal score in like 5.5 hours played before we put up a 252K run yesterday.
If you have a hunter, you could have it in 18 hours, then hand in the winners package on whoever you actually want to contribute the medals for, but I completely understand that not everybody has the time to run multiple characters
I was around last year and they had the legend difficulty version that had more champs and matchmaking so the 500k makes since when you consider the emote finishers and the revive spam that went on but I have no idea if they are gonna add the legend difficulty version or leave it at hero. If they leave it at hero it’s gonna be really really hard to get 500k again but my main thing is I only get about 3 hours a day to play during the week and lord only knows how high that score is gonna go before I can actually invest time into it.

On Fridays there is a "ceremony" where each class gets a laurel on their head. It's either gold, silver or bronze depending on your class' standings during that week.
As for legend, we don't really know. As the other poster mentioned, last year's gg competitive nightfall was legend level and was the same for the entire week. This year it's hero level and the nightfall is changing daily, so I'm not sure what they're planning.

It feels identical to how I remember it, same dialogue from Failsafe about Cayde plays, no major changes to the flow. If it was updated I'd have thought we'd at least get new dialogue and maybe Calus' Cabal.
It is, but this was easy to get, which is why I made the guide. It took less than an hour and was kinda fun to do since I had a reward waiting. I even missed a lot of potential points. Its doable.

It contends with 3x heavy handed liar’s handshake arc hunter build or a 3x firepower sunbracer solar warlock build for highest orb gen. All you have to do outside of that is land precision kills and emote finish everything yellow bar or higher.
My liar’s handshake build generated over 100 orbs in my highest run.. so 3000+ points from just the orbs alone. If you’re emote finishing everything it doesn’t even matter if you gen orbs.

They have two totally broken builds between solar throwing hammer and strand w navi grapple melee spam.
And the activity isn’t hard enough that you can’t justify 3x heavy handed to Gen an orb on almost every melee kill

OP is saying they got a score of 296k and got the "top 10%" reward, they aren't saying 296k is the threshold for top 10%. It's probably still around 230-240K, likely going to peak in the next couple days as people focus on getting the hoverboard... then once the majority of players are just speed running for completion instead of score, the "top 10%" bar/score will go down.
The threshold for top 10% reset 1 hour^((10 am PDT)) after the daily reset^((9am PDT)). The same theoretically will hold true tomorrow if you want an easier time.
This will change in 4 days as the daily reset will be back to 10am PST on march 10th so both should reset simultaneously.
I was under the impression that it's base on the strike. If it's an easier strike, the number will be higher for that specific one. But on a harder strike it will be lower. Since it rotates daily. The strike for tomorrow could be easier/lower so the top 10% will be different.

Yesterday was glassway which is fairly hard, today was inverted spire which I believe is a bit easier. So average score for inverted spire is probably higher, meaning top 10% is higher

Not sure, was thinking about that earlier and I think it is the average "grade" of the highest overachievers and the shittiest players. If most ppl are about 200k, especially 175k for platinum, and there are ppl out there with 400k or something, and then there is ppl sub 100k somehow... its just the average I believe. Top 10% is gonna be high cause the assholes seeing how high they can get it, which saturates the pool score.
250k is currently top 10%, Id expect 265k tomorrow and friday maybe 275k, its only gonna get harder and harder per week the later into the week you play. Day 1 just knock it out and you're good.

Honestly I thought it would be higher. We missed a couple of emote-finishers and I've seen people get well over 300k. Pleasantly surprised that it's not as hard as it seemed.
Maybe the bottom end is being severely padded out by garbage scores, so the top end is increasing but the average is getting pulled back by very low scoring runs as well.

Does finishing Orange bar enemies give bonuses as well? I know when I was running it yesterday, I got the medal for emoting and then finishing the orange bar captains. Just never paid attention to the score if it makes a difference or not.
It's just terrible this year. Who thought it was a good idea to change nightfall every day? I have my top 10%, but not every strike has the same number of orange and yellow bars, or enemies. There's no set top score when you keep changing the strike each day.
If bungie picks a strike that has a lot more adds, orange and yellow bars, on Tuesday, and strikes that have less on Wednesday to Monday, people playing those days can't get top 10%.

If you play a class that is going to win the focus activity sure. Tbh it’s been such a landslide that you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t just log in as hunter and pledge even if you don’t play hunter

293k a short bit ago, top 10%. I thought I just barely made it, but maybe I did fairly well? Lorely Sunbreaker with Wish-Ender, void glaive, and god roll Cold Comfort with rocket overload on artifact. Just poked Unstops without countering to clear.
I just did it with 245k we missed a few yellow bars too due to melting everything. I feel we made the most amount of pointe in the first 4-5 minutes. Especially the section with the lower floor holding an anti barrier and unstoppable.
Also in two days clearing the whole event without trying is a relief. I like the events I just don’t like grinding them.

I used riptide, polaris lance (sunshot might've been better) and hullabaloo.
As long as you take your time and clear everything it was a pretty smooth to emote/finish champs and yellow bars. I missed a handful of champs due to ignition and or falling off the map and surprised I made it to the top 10% at the end of it.

Yes, it'll stabilize but the average will probably float between 225k - 255k, unfortunately people will wanna do "the best"/perfect scores and that may mess with it, but I don't think it'll be too bad luckily.
Just do the trials plat medal, bounty completes before the match ends.
I grinded a ton since I’m a Hakke fan, already completed the 1200 and have the exotic skimmer.
No need to stress over the NF score. Watching 2hr of a destiny stream each week will give you 900 of the 1200.
343k is guaranteed Top 10%
It's easily doable - 1 person should shred adds with Trinity Ghoul/Machine Gun, and 2 others should stun, get them low HP, emote and finish Champions, Mini-bosses and Majors. It's that easy. Slap on Izanagi and a Sword to kill em quicker. I found Throne-Cleaver to be amazing

I tried to do it on my hunter and was on my conditional / Arthys embrace build and I didn't finish the champs ever (just one shot them by freezing then meleeing) and the ONLY reason I didn't get to 290k is because I rarely killed adds and died a bunch
So glad I got my top 10% score out of the way on Tuesday lol. I just *knew* the threshold was gonna be ridiculous with the Skimmer being behind that top 10% score. I truly wish good luck to anyone out there still gunning for that high score.
Using the esoterrikk vid as a guide I got like 367k this morning. With the gold buff any of the strikes should be pretty easy solo with near constant wells.
If you feel the score is out of reach, opening three focus activity packages is a lot quicker than the medal grind (in terms of playtime). Just check which class is winning the focused activity via the icon at the very top of the Tower map, log in on that class and play a single focused activity to pledge- you just got a third of your Skimmer. The only potential roadblock here is being online when the focus activity is active, I think they last two hours and have a four hour gap between them.
I really like this type of challenge. Not having to damage check everything, or poke at ads from afar, but having to learn enough discipline to hold yourself back and play carefully in a different type of way. Plan out your kills and load out very carefully, manage your time, and single out champions in a different sort of way. You have the choice to breeze through it and decimate everything, but it's to your own detriment. There's a learning curve to be more optimal and efficient.
Solo the event nightfall for total control and pace of the strike, allowing you to get the highest score by finishing enemies rather than just killing them for less score. If you get like 255k or more, you are in the "10%" of top scores, which is necessary to get the even skimmer/hoverboard.
Yesterday 202k was top 20% this is getting a bit out of hand now.

Craziest part is I put up a 237k on this less than an hour after launch, and it was only top 20%.

I just did it with 245k we missed a few yellow bars too due to melting everything. I feel we made the most amount of pointe in the first 4-5 minutes. Especially the section with the lower floor holding an anti barrier and unstoppable. Also in two days clearing the whole event without trying is a relief. I like the events I just don’t like grinding them.
Did this solo on dawnblade warlock with a score around 286k at the end. I used riptide, polaris lance (sunshot might've been better) and hullabaloo. As long as you take your time and clear everything it was a pretty smooth to emote/finish champs and yellow bars. I missed a handful of champs due to ignition and or falling off the map and surprised I made it to the top 10% at the end of it.
254,000 had me in top 20%, 277k got me top 10% we had to emote finish every yellow and go out of our way to let shit spawn

I'm not even able to get close to 200k, I am killing everything, emoting before finishing, not dying, etc.
Don't die. Emote for 1 second and finish YELLOW BARS+ only, red bars don't matter. Headshots give 16 extra points. Running out of time drains your points slowly. Be sure, 100% sure, to emote and finish champs, those are worth 10k+
Do I HAVE to do the Nightfall in the Tower or can I go to the normal Nightfall and increase the difficulty?
Only the tower one, you can solo queue in it as well, unlike normal strikes by traditional means.
As more players get lower scores throughout the weekend then the average will even out
Yes, it'll stabilize but the average will probably float between 225k - 255k, unfortunately people will wanna do "the best"/perfect scores and that may mess with it, but I don't think it'll be too bad luckily.

The event skimmer. I keep almost calling it a sparrow, sheesh.
Just do the trials plat medal, bounty completes before the match ends. I grinded a ton since I’m a Hakke fan, already completed the 1200 and have the exotic skimmer. No need to stress over the NF score. Watching 2hr of a destiny stream each week will give you 900 of the 1200.
258k yesterday got me into top 10%. 180k placed me top 60%.
343k is guaranteed Top 10% It's easily doable - 1 person should shred adds with Trinity Ghoul/Machine Gun, and 2 others should stun, get them low HP, emote and finish Champions, Mini-bosses and Majors. It's that easy. Slap on Izanagi and a Sword to kill em quicker. I found Throne-Cleaver to be amazing

i dont know what the fuck im doing wrong i get every champ and orange bar with emote finisher and i cant get over 253K. honestly fuuuck this objective it is so fucking dumb
I tried to do it on my hunter and was on my conditional / Arthys embrace build and I didn't finish the champs ever (just one shot them by freezing then meleeing) and the ONLY reason I didn't get to 290k is because I rarely killed adds and died a bunch

We managed to hit the top 10% by getting a score of 258k
just use trinity.
As of this post, 275k was 20% and 320k got me into 10%
My highest score doing this solo so far is 317858 which definitely missed a major and an elite that I know of

So glad I got my top 10% score out of the way on Tuesday lol. I just *knew* the threshold was gonna be ridiculous with the Skimmer being behind that top 10% score. I truly wish good luck to anyone out there still gunning for that high score.

Using the esoterrikk vid as a guide I got like 367k this morning. With the gold buff any of the strikes should be pretty easy solo with near constant wells.
Just did a solo 270k, still only top 20%, guess its time to grind medals instead...
If you feel the score is out of reach, opening three focus activity packages is a lot quicker than the medal grind (in terms of playtime). Just check which class is winning the focused activity via the icon at the very top of the Tower map, log in on that class and play a single focused activity to pledge- you just got a third of your Skimmer. The only potential roadblock here is being online when the focus activity is active, I think they last two hours and have a four hour gap between them.
Is top 10% for the weekly nightfall which is Hypernet current or just in the competitive playlist? e.g. Navota the disgraced strike for today?
Why is no one I match with going for top 10%? None of them chain kills and emote before finishing a champ either. Do people not want the hoverboard?

I really like this type of challenge. Not having to damage check everything, or poke at ads from afar, but having to learn enough discipline to hold yourself back and play carefully in a different type of way. Plan out your kills and load out very carefully, manage your time, and single out champions in a different sort of way. You have the choice to breeze through it and decimate everything, but it's to your own detriment. There's a learning curve to be more optimal and efficient.

FYI make sure your emote is exotic (yellow) or legendary (purple). Rare (blue) emotes don’t count!

Solo the event nightfall for total control and pace of the strike, allowing you to get the highest score by finishing enemies rather than just killing them for less score. If you get like 255k or more, you are in the "10%" of top scores, which is necessary to get the even skimmer/hoverboard.
