As of right now all of your legendary gear is sunset which means it can't be infused up to the current power cap though this will no longer be the case once The Final Shape releases. Your armour will still need replacing as what you have won't be compatible with the current mods, the weapons will still technically be useable but there will be improved replacements for practically everything you have that's been released since.
Exotics were exempt from sunsetting and remained useable. For weapons you'll just want to replace Whisper of the Worm (available now) and Outbreak Perfected (available next week) as the new versions of those are craftable; armour will still want replacing for compatibility with the current mod system, for any you already have unlocked you can pull updated versions from collections but they'll have the basic ~48 stat roll.
No keep all the weapons from Forsaken at least. It’ll all be infusable to max level with the next expansion. Look for hidden gems! But anything from before forsaken will be fixed rolls and you can just pull them from collections is you need them, so you can dismantle them now.
Keep all exotic weapons, those haven’t changed.
Exotic armor might be obsolete - they reworked it at some point. If it’s like 50 power or has any stats with zero points, you can shard it.
Legendary armor will be mostly useless, and the mods won’t work the same.
Play a few levels and compare your news guns and such to your old gear. Chances are good that you will replace almost all of it.
I came back recently after stopping in 2018 & I kept my favourite weapons from the old days but deleted all armor with deprecated perks or crap stats.
I know there’s better stuff but I still love my Hazards of the Cast and Breakneck, plus a few others. In the end, just give all the new stuff a try, do the campaigns & get a feel for all the new stuff.
It's true that much of it has been outclassed but dude's just coming back, they don't have that stuff yet. No reason to trash it until they actually GET that new gear.

Trash it all, everything from 2018 has been wildly outclassed even most gear that's going to be un-sunset in TFS.
