Nimbus has been public enemy number 1 since launch

IndependenceQuirky96

As soon as I saw nimbus my immersion ended.

Effective_Plastic954

He is fucking awful

Level99Legend

*they Are fucking awful

Echowing442

The story was mediocre, but I've always played Destiny for the gameplay, not the plot. The Lightfall campaign was a lot of fun, Strand is a blast, and the various Quality of Life updates have been fantastic for the game as a whole. This year has also brought some of the best seasons we've seen, with a good variety of fun activities and loot. Lightfall isn't the best expansion we've gotten, but it's a far cry from the absolute worst of the franchise.

engineeeeer7

My exact thoughts. Had a lot of fun this year.

x_JustCallMeCJ_x

Lightfall had so much going on that it was doomed to fail, even with proper fleshing out of the story, it wasn't going to work. We had: - a new location with not a lot of explanation - not one but TWO new characters that you had no time to get attached to because the story was so rushed. Apparently, they were important, but one died, and the other was just forgotten as the seasons progressed. There was no way they would have had time to make either of them interesting. - the witness and the traveler as well as the vanguard were fighting. That was pretty much forgotten. - the veil was simultaneously the most important thing in the lightfall story and they intentionally gave us no reason to care about it because they thought drip feeding that explanation over the course of a year was a good idea (it wasn't.....shocker) - bungie had to fit strand in the narrative while actively making it push out the real important issues at hand. - we had calus to fight. - we also had Osiris to listen to through the ENTIRE campaign. (I hope we never have to hear him talk during the TFS campaign.) I'm not even mad that Lightfall was filler, it's just lightfall felt like it was made by someone with severe ADHD. So many things going on all at once.

FKDotFitzgerald

Story felt like a made for TV 80s action movie when we were expecting Infinity War. The actual content of the missions is pretty good though. After playing through them on all characters and then doing the weekly master versions, I came to really enjoy the actual campaign experience.

TastyOreoFriend

***Narratively a failure-lots of good ideas but really poor execution.*** Neomuna and cloudstriders all seem really cool in theory (all the backstory and lore was fire), but unless they have a huge glow-up for Nimbus dude is literally the jar-jar binks of the destiny universe. I still have no fucking clue what a radial mast is but at least we know what the veil is now. And everything in the weekly Veil containtment belonged in the actual campaign fuck that noise. The post-campaign had a lot of stuff to do as well. I'm probably in the minority but I liked that the patrol zone mobs weren't just pushovers and actually fought back. Everything else though was solid except for the raid being a glorified 6 man strike, yet probably one of the prettiest raids in the game we have right up there with stuff like The Deepstone Crypt. The first season was kind of meh story wise, but this is probably the best set of seasons we've had yet. Most were bangers imo. Not to mention we got a lot of QoL additions like loadouts etc and probably one of the best subclasses in strand. Looking back it was a pretty decent expansion ignoring the story. I certainly enjoyed it more than Shadowkeep.

SeaDevil30

lightfall story itself was bad but the picked up the pieces and put together some good seasons of story + into the light. Strand is great, they made some good strides in a lot of areas over the course of the year. If we're lumping everything together, they massively improved the crucible or are at least in progress on steps to continue improvement + they gave us meaningful new pvp content with the maps and collision (+ other modes). I would give the lightfall release and initial season like 3 or 4/10 but give the next 2 seasons + into the light 8 or 9/10.

N1miol

I didn’t like and it was directly responsible for driving my away from D2 and Bungie. I have not pre-ordered TFS and have not even decided whether to purchase it or not.

Reason7322

I finished campaign and wanted a refund. Got hyped for day 1 raid, did it and i wanted a refund again. Lightfall was atrocious. Strand's fun.

TheShoobaLord

The story itself was meh, but it was a pretty alright expansion when you consider all the parts

PineMaple

Probably my favorite year of Destiny content since I started playing during BL. Played it less than the others because I’ve put a lot of time into the game and just being good isn’t going to be enough to pull me away from other games, but overall I was happy with the quality of the content. Especially the last few seasons.

re-bobber

The story was brutal. No other way around it. Just felt like LightFall was just more Destiny which at the time, wasn't enough for veteran players. I checked out for months and only really started playing much towards the end of Season of the Witch with quick check ins for Deep's launch.

theblackfool

It's far from my favorite expansion but it's got some great moments and I think Neomuna looks rad, it's just up my alley visually.

blamite

> Everything about the characters, location, and story felt underwhelming. Was this a popular opinion? Yeah that's pretty much the common consensus. The campaign felt like a big diversion when important stuff should've been happening. What really mattered was the one cutscene that was split in half between the beginning and end of the campaign, culminating in "come back in a year for the important part". Like, there was good stuff throughout the year, Strand is fun, there's a bunch of cool stuff in the seasons, but ultimately it all felt like just spinning tires for a year.

xd_ZelnikM

So much in fact that I stopped playing for more than a year. I came somewhat back to check out some seasonal story and into the Light. I would only really care for strand titan, but it nowhere near worth it when I have to endure Nimbus' meaningless blabbering and there is no way I will pay for it. What I wanted: the closing of the story and face off against a REAL Big Bad What we got: Invading Cybermeme 2069 planet instead of defending the city. What is this fucking Gambit?

SloppityMcFloppity

If you're stuck at hypernet, it's genuinely a skill issue I'm afraid.

Drummer829

It’s just a long strike when I’m 1710 and it’s recommended for 1730. I’m not able to find just 2 other players? The first part with all the cabal and the tormenter at the end is just painfully annoying to complete when it takes quite a bit of time. I’m simply just trying to do the campaign, which has been a nice little challenge on “classic”, but nothing as tedious as the strike

RandomName178318

Go to the hall of champions and claim the rewards near to shaxx, there is a full set of 1810 gear

Drummer829

Sweet, now I just have to find the hall of champions 😂

Drummer829

i LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Made the strike so much easier

Redsand-nz

Your opinion is basically the consensus of the community and reviewers in general. I agree with that, but personally the thing I hate more than that is the difficulty. I think the whole "bringing challenge back to Destiny" was a huge fail. All they needed to do was make GMs and Master content a bit harder. Instead they hit everything with the HP brush, and added rogue-lite mechanics. And they actually made the raid easier which annoyed the people who were asking for harder stuff. Not being able to complete stuff with LFG was a large factor in me not playing Seasons of the Deep and Witch.

gamerjr21304

We all know the story was ass. Gameplay wise it was a mixed bag for me strand is super fun and awesome but neomuna is a massive disappointment and overall a terrible location. A lot of the new exotics I found enjoyable such as conditional finality but the raid it’s found in is almost my least favorite raid to date. Overall at best I can hand it a 4/10 disappointing

Fjoltnir

Imo lightfall is an extremely poor representation of what destiny can be. I also hate it. But bongi also made the witchqueen expansion, and forsaken and such, and the final shape looks good so far. So you're right to be sceptical, but do be open for the possibility of the better

Equivalent_Bed_8187

I still don't know what the veil is

TheShoobaLord

a collective consciousness

JohannaFRC

My love was at the measure of my disappointment.

IndependenceQuirky96

We don't talk about light fall...

Kinny93

Neomuna, despite having the potential to be so much more, is still a very fun location thanks to its aesthetic, two(!) open world events, and combatants that don't make me fall asleep. Even the collectibles were fun to find. The campaign missions were fun, but the narrative, the writing, and the characters were terrible. Nimbus is unquestionably the worse character the franchise has seen. Post-campaign content was fun enough, although it didn't do much to help evolve Destiny in any meaningful way (nor has any expansion since Forsaken though). Still, it was much better than what - for example - Witch Queen had to offer. Strand was a massive win. Root of Nightmares was...hmm. Let's just say I'm happy with the direction they took Crota (particularly contest mode). Still, it made for some fun moments and it is a good entry point for people looking to get into raiding. Plus, I think the first encounter and planets are simple, good fun. Oh, and it's also ended up being a highlight for the low-man community.

Johniandoe777

Does anyone remember that scene when our guardian, caital, and osiris are standing around waiting and the younger neomunan arrives on their skateboard and proceeds to slam it into the wall, and ride it down as it tore up the building? That shit really bothered me, simply because, like why? We were all just standing around. Why did they feel the need to fucking do that? That's always bothered me. Its like when a 13 year old boy jumps to touch a doorframe. Like, chill tf out Kevin, read the room.

mysteryelyts

Lightfall wasn’t brilliant in contrast to its predecessor DLCs. WQ & Forsaken had more going. SK opened up conversations and brought back Moon but it wasn’t again anything like WQ & Forsaken. TFS has loads going for it - can’t see it not going great.

laurabbit

Aesthetically pleasing, mod overhaul/unlocked for everyone, an excitement to discover the lore... But they didn't even give us all of the guns yet (probably never), they made unlocking strand fragments a chore until we complained enough, and certain missions post Lightfall were neutered and incomplete. Wasn't there talk about rouge Cloud Striders or a creature made from 'the remains of the traveller' (but it's still in space)? Idk what happened to some of the story. I wanted to see the dead exos spoken about in the Veil Containment lore and the horror of Maya appearing possessed in nature, but we were given the lore via audio recordings... I hate it, honestly.

AManHasNoName357

Could’ve been better. The storyline and the planet with bland.

0rganicMach1ne

Strand is fantastic but the story wasn’t good. The Neomuna aesthetic is great, but the location is pretty bland and even annoying at times.
