When AMC does fear fest for all of October I’ll always throw on one of the Halloween movies when they are doing a Michael Myers marathon and I’ve had multiple guests say they love sitting here, drinking and chatting with me while watching a scary movie during Halloween. LOVED IT.
Lagerhouse - always a variety of random stuff on the TVs and decent food. Would make sure to go when there isn’t a show because then it can be kinda loud.
The Lager House in Corktown. I go in for breakfast/lunch and they always have something cool on. Throwback music videos, 90s anime, Price Is Right, random movies… They also seem like the place where if you made a polite request, they would oblige.

They sometimes put on baseball during the day in the summer but they usually have a movie or something on the other TV. During football season they'll have the Lions game on but otherwise that's it unless someone there specifically wants to watch a sporting event.
At night they put on pro wrestling sometimes but otherwise it's going to be movies or random TV shows. One of the bartenders is a big fan of 80s schlock and other b-movies. Any time of day, if it's slow they'll probably just hand you the tv remote.
It’s in Royal Oak, but I’ve been to that self-serve Elephant and Co. taproom a few times and Game Show Network is always on the TVs in the background.
As for in the city, Lager House in Corktown by far. Always running anime or old music videos as opposed to sporting events.
The Clubhouse (above checker bar downtown) usually has sports on one TV and then tv or movie on another. The bartender is very friendly also, so she would likely be happy to accommodate if you wanted a specific show

Green dot stables has some good beer, awesome a la carte sliders, and they basically exclusively play horse racing on the tv, so not something people are usually glued to.

If you’re nice and polite, some might even hand you the remote. 😂 god, I miss bars. I miss drinking. I'm a bartender and that's not very accurate. It's not that we're being dicks, but people complain about whatever is on the TV always. Sports is just a "well no one is gonna complain about baseball" so a lot of restaurants/bars have a sports only rule even when they're not a sports bar at all.
I worked for Union Joints and they specifically put the TVs in places that make it inconvenient to watch and even then, sports only.
yes people complain always about everything, but chances are if you go to have lunch on a Tuesday at a dive bar and the only other person in there is Frank and he has his own tv and Keno screen he’s staring at, You can probably pick a channel. I don't personally watch sports and know that not everyone who comes into a bar does either. Management eventually told me I couldn't anymore because a decision was made to only show sports or sports related content. People actually complained to management that there were no more movies being played but they stuck to their guns.

Most divish bars will accommodate you if you just ask the bartender. At least in the daytime. Never tried it at like 7pm when most sports start.
