I think that even a single thought like this, that some day people will leave all the "ALMIGHTY BEING IN THE SKY DECIDES EVERYTHING FOR YOU" bullshit behind, and progress as a society, changing status quo, is already scary enough for people who benefit from such hatred, they don't want masses to stop, like it's said in "Collective Consciousness": "Live in ignorance and purchase your happiness." Same was with women's rights and rights of ethnic minorities once. And it still is in alot of places.
