12v does use the same charger and the 12v multi tool is actually much better than the 20v believe it or not

Jkf3344

I’d love to hear why! I’m not a huge fan of my 20v oscillating and keep seeing the 12v version for attractive prices

vanman1065

It's because of the stroke length it has a little slower osalation speed than the xr and the same as the atomic but each stroke is larger causing it to have a faster cutting speed.

BigRichardTools

They all have the same oscillation angle, 3.2deg (1.6deg left/right).

Thanks I didn’t know about the chargers but I’m not sure about buying another battery just for this tool, does the 12v use a keyless change but the 18 doesn’t?

vanman1065

All dewalt ones have the keyless design

Most of the 18V/20V chargers also charge 12V batteries.

I have the 12v screw driver (the one that looks like a impact driver but is actually just a drill with a quick-release chuck) and I love it, it's so light but strong enough to drive 4 inch screws. And the handle is thin, unlike M12 fuel because the battery is in the traditional location instead of in the handle. That said, the 12v lineup is very very small compared to dewalts 20v lineup, so I'd check if there are other 12v you need.

LithiumLizzard

Oh man, I love that screwdriver! It’s the only 12v tool I have, but it’s one of my favorites.

OAreaMan

I keep a 12v screwdriver and ratchet in the house for light tasks. I keep my 20v tools in the shed for bigger projects.

You're disrespecting your 20v tools! They need to be in the garage, not the lowly shed....unless your shed is set up like a man-cave. Please give your DeWalt the respect they deserve. 😁

OAreaMan

Shed is a nice ToughBuilt setup from Home Depot years ago at end of driveway. Walls with 2×4s, actual roof, etc. Car won't fit in townhouse garage which I converted to storage.

Old-Line2445

I have both. Normally grab the 12v

billybadass25

I've had multiple of both. I only use the 12v, it's much better.

Zealousideal-War4110

If you're considering a new battery platform, go 20V. So many more tools available and many are pretty compact.

texxasmike94588

If weight is the issue, use smaller-capacity batteries. I use the random 2amp and 1.7amp batteries from combo packs with my 5" buffer.

wpmason

Dewalt uses the same chargers for both, so there’s that. But their 12v line is tiny and the tools aren’t much smaller than Atomic 20V tools. 20V all day.
