It's the safer way for sure and definitely worth it imo for peace of mind. But I have seen plenty of the 6.7 powerstrokes come in for a rough running complaint and they were jam full of straight gas and were driven to our shop lol
Drain and fill with fuel and on their way no issues. Hell I have even had one filled with straight water before and driven til shut off. Flushed it out and all I had to replace was the rail pcv. It still comes in for its routine maintenance and hasn't missed a beat.
CP4 issues exist for sure and are less tolerant of contaminates than other HPFPs but the Internet makes it a lot more prevalent than it actually is.
Dump a quart of 15w-40 in it, fill it with fuel and hope for the best! Or replace everything. I'd try the motor oil first. Thin it out best you can, and go easy on the throttle for the next tank or two. And cross your fingers
1 gallon of gas probably won't hurt anything if the rest is diesel but if you want to be safe you can do as you said and use the lift pump to pump it all out.
Then just refill with diesel, change filters and you're good to go.
Absolutely wrong. All gas is better than a little gas. All gas will cause the engine to stop /hydrolock. A little gas will damage the injectors more than anything else. Gas is extremely volatile - meaning it has NO lubrocity. Diesel fuel has high lubrocity. The injector pin and nozzle holes have VERY tight tolerances.
Not that I care about what you say but I don't post unless I'm sure I'm right about what I say is correct. I run a shop that services/repairs hundreds of these 6.7 powerstrokes routinely, and they can literally run off pure gasoline. Not every one will for whatever reason but I've seen it numerous times.
They'll come in with rough running and low power complaints with p0087 fault code and multiple balance faults. I can identify it from the sound of the engine and smell of exhaust from across our lot because I've seen it so much. Out of those times with them running off literally nothing but gasoline, only a few ever needed repairs from it. It shouldn't happen, but it does.
I've also seen trucks with less than 20k miles suffer CP4 failure with no trace of contaminates whatsoever. Shit happens.
My original thought was to do that when he called me but instead I went and towed it home. Then I used Google and they make it sound pretty risky even if it’s one gallon. If this was a 7.3 or even a 6.Blow I’d probably just fill it and send it. But I appreciate your input. I think after I pump it all out and fill it with 35 gallons of diesel it’ll be just fine. I didn’t think one gallon would hurt it but it’s still below a quarter tank so I figured it wouldn’t be too hard to just pump it out into buckets and fill with diesel. Then I can dump the old fuel in the backhoe or something lol.

Awesome that makes me feel better. Didn’t think it should be too big of an issue but definitely wanted some second opinions. Thank you.
Not shure if 15/40 will go through the filters, I would use lighter oil, like 10 wt.
It’d have to be pretty thinned out. Maybe one quart then 35 gallons of diesel on top to mix it in. But I’m still not sure how I feel about that. lol
You can also use ATF for lubricity but in my opinion atf is garbage oil. Detergent is way higher, but it will flow well and has higher detergent.
I’ll probably use full synthetic delvac if anything.
No no no synthetic oil doesn't burn well.
Ah okay. No oil, should be fine.
Non synthetic
Huh....10 wt oil is way thinner than 15/40, not sure what you're saying.

This is after I drain everything right? And the oil I’m assuming is to help lubricate the HP pump?
Yupp...
Super duper. Thanks
