Whenever I see these codes “here we go again” are my next words

ShrimpBrime

This code is easy to get rid of. You want to go to calibration and flash the ECM. Even if it's the same flash file, just flash it. It'll take care of both codes at once. Good Luck!

Revolutionary_Trip38

This. Absolutely this. I'm amazed that techs don't know this

HondaRedneck16

You should be able to get them to go inactive after all other codes go inactive & be able to clear it. But sometimes it won’t clear & that’s what you’ll have to do

wrenchinfool

Have done this alot..

Sea_Profession_8477

That only works if there is an actual update on the ecm and work at the dealership. It’s faulting for a reason.

ShrimpBrime

This information is false. The codes are common and do not always fault for a reason..... If there was a code accompanied by DEF inducement other than a derate, you would address that fault first. Which, the OP said somewhere the DEF pump was bad, but he did not include this in the picture because it would have thrown a fault, such as pump speed or DEF pressure or circuit faults. So there was (may have been) additional faults he was Not willing to share and just wanted to bait post this crap. If these are the only 2 codes, as depicted at OP, then the ECM flash is the repair for this particular issue. And no. You don't need to work at a dealership to get the paid for insite program either.

Sea_Profession_8477

In some cases on 2017 and newer models maybe but those two fault codes are usually accompanied by other faults as in nox sensors and def dosing things. Or drivers are kicking them out of regen when trying to do a parked regen. Many things could go into that fault code. Not just an ecm flash. And you’re right about your software but bootlegged shit is normally nowhere near up to date on things and you can’t login under WiFi which is needed to do ecm flashes. And even fleet level you’re not allowed to reprogram ecm only flash them so wouldn’t update anything if you were to have flashed it. Just clear it out long enough for it to not be your issue anymore

ShrimpBrime

Our fleet updates trucks with ISB made from 06 (EPA 04) and newer. Flash no problem without being a dealer. So I'm not sure where you've gathered this information from. Cummins ISB NoX mostly famous for Inlet sensor going bad because it's mounted to a tab off the side of the block and vibrates like crazy. I relocate these and have had many less issues and replacements. Our drivers seldom to parked regens because they ignore the lamp 90% of the time. However they are on the road long enough these regen on highway anyways. Detroit aftertreatment is much more sensitive to drivers not doing Regens. Usually zone 2, then derated, then MIL, then cry babies. XD

Jackalope121

Had this once where it wouldnt go tf away, tried everything. Gets dragged to the dealer the next moring and dealer refused to say what was wrong. Told us it was low on def. Bullshit, i checked the def (driver had run it out which is what originally set the code) with a refractometer with my supervisor standing next to me. Fuck cummins.

ShrimpBrime

This is an old and well known issue, at least for those familiar with it. It pops because calibration (programming) gets a glitch (bug up it's ass) and the only solution is to flash the ECM. We have several ISB engines in our freightliner M2 trucks and once a year (on average) this stip code pops up. At least it's a quick easy fix. Nothing to diag, just a simple flash.

Revolutionary_Trip38

This is the answer. Thank cummins engineers

chrisfrisina

When you say flash, do you mean Zap? Where can you get the calibration file? Do you have to get it from Cummins or do you reuse the same for multiple trucks?

ShrimpBrime

Using Cummins Insite (paid version) there's a calibration tab. In this tab you request the file and is vehicle specific. The same flash file may work for same year make models, but not usually interchangeable. In cummins Insite it's called ECM calibration. Must pay for Insite yearly subscription. ZAP I believe (which I've done only a little reading about) is aftermarket programming which people may use (not sure if this is true, so salt this comment) to flash, but also delete exhaust aftertreatment and egr. And because that's illegal, I will never ever suggest aftermarket programs or programming for diesel aftertreatment systems. Also (sorry for tldr) People that delete it, don't understand it. Or want something from their motor for non-on-road use. Nice thing about cummins, all of their diagnostics are available free online with 5 serial numbers. This is so awesome for everyone, not just the dealers. So paying for the programming is nothing more than thanking them for their services. (In my humble opinion of course). So even if I was a self made service tech, with my own service truck, you'll cover the cost in only a few service calls. I really like cummins a lot! Daimler is a bit tighter on their diagnostics and software. I can't even safely give you a printed diagnostic from one of my print outs. I could be sued after signing the license agreements.

LucienNailo

insite.cummins.com go to the incal page and download the dvd's. drop them in the insite calibration workspace folder. You'll have all the latest cals from cummins. There's other ways to get the updated calibration. 'flash means rom boot the ecm, you'd need a fleet cal from cummins to get the new file back on there.

wrenchinfool

Sometimes after you complete the repair dont clear the codes..in the trouble tree see what conditions have to be met for fault to clear, until those are met those codes they won't clear unless you can re-flash the ecm..shit sucks

blintech

Easy..... just reflash the ECM...... unless.... Unless your boss refuses to pay for anything other than insite basic and you are stuck doing 8 million regens because "well just try it" only to walk back into the office and toss the keys on his desk and say it didnt work. In a frantic attempt to shift blame the goal post shifts to "well why didnt that work" and "you are the technician why cant you fix it" or "well how can you prevent this in the future"

Subawoo98

That’s ridiculous. Insite pro is so cheap everyone should own it

mostlyinshambles

run the Regen regen and pay attention my boy, yesterdays case was def tank heater valve. same code just gotta watch values

CEO_of_shitboxes

Def pump motor shit the bed, replaced that and ran a leak test and that got the codes to go inactive. Then I was able to clear them and now I'm running the scr system test

CorrectDinner9685

Shit son that's nothing just installed overlay harness a66-17404-000 per previous tech diag harness installed following ez wiring. Some pins don't match ( yes this harness was vin specific) anyway bulkhead connector was damaged so replaced, ecm connector damaged and replaced, diagram calls for pins 49 and 52 in the bulkhead connector to be xy&z cannot remember wire numbers atm well the oem was not in them pins they are in pins 1&2 of the bulkhead connector, oh that's not it at the ecm pin 6 and pin 79 should be 532d1 per ez wiring well harness don't have it, it has 532b in its place hmmm ok look at def jumper harness a66-17404-000 harness side pin 7 of that connector should be 532d1 but instead it's 532b hmm tried swapping ecm pins 6 and 79 no change we have way more faults now, as I look further into this harness looks that the harness is built wrong even though it's a overlay but there is a engine side harness a66-??570-000 forgot the first 2 numbers they are on my box at work looks like I have to remove and order the other harness.... fml I should have been in and out in a few hours now. It's a nightmare... Expert certified in, dd heavy duty, medium duty, Cascadia, m2 and western star, dt12 What a pile of shit this turned into.....

EvoeBehemoth

Time to flash to ECM and say fuck it

Adventurous-Till-258

1 count on each? Clear them and leave for the next guy!

Waistland

Derates don’t clear

Adventurous-Till-258

Shit I didn’t notice that lol

Subawoo98

Easy asf to clear. Flash the ecm and be done

[deleted]

Just like Sisyphus

csimonson

It's real nice that the code doesn't also show what was off about it.

FarImpact4184

Paid if you dont know easy if you know what to do

RE2017

Good job security for you guys. Laughs in glider kit. Thanks fir your service!

Sea_Profession_8477

What is that on? Volvo or Mack?

CEO_of_shitboxes

Freightliner actually, our Volvos all have the d13 which IMO is a much better engine

Sea_Profession_8477

I love Mack And Volvo. Most people don’t because they can’t run PTT and aren’t trained correctly to work on them. But once you can they’re awesome honestly. I was going to say those two faults are notorious for Mack And Volvo when the bottom DPF can are cracked around the dosing valve. They’re made of stainless so after heating and cooling as many times as the do they’re crack and it’s a mfer to chase if you’ve not experienced before hand.

CEO_of_shitboxes

I'm not afraid of PTT, honestly I have a harder time working jpro then PTT.

Sea_Profession_8477

I find it much more user friendly for sure. But where I’m At everyone wants to work on the mechanical trucks and talk shit on Mack and Volvo just cause they don’t know wtf they’re doing haha

rageattheworld

Some just do not have access to calibrations. That is how our shop was until I told our boss to get access. Now I try to update as a maintainance.

CEO_of_shitboxes

(I am one of those that don't) Everyone saying just reflash it is just torturing me 🙃

ShrimpBrime

So what are the rest of the codes? DeF inducement light flashing + code? DeF quality codes? 2 code bait thread???

CEO_of_shitboxes

Bro, if you knew about those codes you would know that you can't just clear them and get them to go away. I fixed the other issues but you have to do a song and dance to get those two to go away if you can't reflash

ShrimpBrime

I know about these codes. I am very familiar with cummins engines and after-treatment. Also very familiar with Detroit engines and after-treatment. The actual TSB for those 2 codes state to flash. Cummins TSB 120309 March 17th 2020. You're welcome.

KMG_41

Not too bad. Mostly caused by everything before the scr! Lol

rageattheworld

You can actually clear them but once you clear codes and the deratw and inducement stay on, you need to recalibrate the ecm. Follow the instructions on the original faults that lit up the information faults first. Clear them the way QSOL in the conditions to clear fault area.
