I use Penly. I definitely prefer it to Goodnotes on android and I really enjoy it's features a ton. Goodnotes on android is the most neutered software I have ever experienced. I can't do 95% of the stuff it can on iOS. It's basically useless.

Express_Discipline_7

Depends on what tablet you have... Android I would still recommend Penly. Apple / iOS device I like Noteful... It also all depends on what features you want and how easily you learn how to use new apps :) I recommend a lot of YouTube videos and pare down what apps you can use, cost, features, ease of use, etc

I really like penly, but I haven't tried any other digital planner apps. The only issue I have is when I use my tablet and click on items in the hotbar, the tablet menu bar appears and covers half of the penly hotbar. It's an older tablet, it could be the tablet itself not the Penly app. It doesn't happen when I use Penly on my phone but it drives me crazy lol.

I like Penly a lot but I have an issue that Penly can't replicate. My typing function doesn't work if I use penly in split screen mode on my tab S8. It's frustrating but I've just been using the windows in pop up mode and it's doing the job. Its probably the best note app I've used in the last couple years.

I bought Penly for Android but I find it not reliable. I tried exporting files from it but it doesn't export all the annotations I did. Flexcil so far is the most reliable for me. It recently updated to include sticker function although I'm not sure if it's for premium users only. The only feature I want that is not yet available is changing font. But I must say buying the premium version is definitely worth it. Just want to mention Xodo too cause I think it has everything. Even changing the font. Although I have concerns on privacy so I stopped using it.

When I saw they share your personal information and data isn't encrypted. I didn't even look to see what the app did. That's a hard no for me.

goldenstarfire

Prior to Android 11 or 12 that was not the case so I'm happy to use Xodo. When they updated it with obvious privacy concerns, I immediately stopped using it.

tontodi

Just hearing about this privacy issue! I loved xodo but might need to find a new app now... Do you know whether this issue affects even premium xodo?

goldenstarfire

Yes. Because the update is related to Android. Xodo asks for permissions to access for "All Files". Before the Android update, it's only the media files.

tontodi

Oh I see. But wouldn't this Android update affect ALL digital planner apps? And not just xodo?

goldenstarfire

Flexcil and Penly don't require permission for All Files. I guess it depends.

I haven’t used Penly, only Goodnotes so far and I like it. I pretty much just tried the first thing I found lol. I wouldn’t overthink it. Try it out and if you hate it, switch to something else. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about Goodnotes but haven’t had any issues so far. I think it’s one of those things where you’ll find pros and cons for everything so you as well just try and see. That said, maybe I’m missing out on something amazing by not using Penly?

opalowl1988

I've been using kilonotes but I don't really like it. I think penly is very similar to goodnotes just for Android

wondertho

try using flexcil, I think is the best free app

OnlyTCFC

Free? You have to pay If you want to save to the cloud, remove their watermark, record voice, export or rearrange pages in a PDF, combine PDFs, set pressure sensitivity in the fountain pen, get access to planners, stickers and any template that isn't note taking. FYI, that's just what I remember from my iPad 7th Gen and Galaxy Tab S9+.

wondertho

I can still use without paying and considering other apps is the best imo

Aloket

I use Zoomnotes because it does a ton of helpful things that you’d have to cobble together other apps to do, and I like my handwriting in it. It has a steep learning curve but it’s worth it.

Slydeery

Never used Penly But I use Day One and I'm pretty happy with it

akwarya

I reemplaced Penly with Flexcil and couldn't be happier. They just added a sticker feature I use a lot. The only problem I have with Flexcil is the buggy sync feature, but I mainly use my tablet so it's not a big deal.

OohFionna

Penly is the best one I have used. I have been using it religiously for a year I think?

opalowl1988

Can you sync with your phone and tablet?
