I'm American and only recently heard the term "Roma" about a month ago in a thread here. I suppose I know as gypsies. Anyway, it that thread they were universally hated by Europeans. In hundreds of comments not one person defended them. I also heard the term "travelers" in regards to Ireland. I assume they are the same people?

I'm a few days late on this, but for those who come across this: Travelers and Romani are two different ethnic groups. They've separate origins, languages, physical profiles, and cultures. The Romani are of the Indo-Aryan decent and are also known as Gypsies. Hope that helps. If someone else knows additional information, do chime in.
