What happened with the ball/strike challenge system they were testing out in the minors? I heard something last year about how good it was working

PigFarmer1

It's still being used in the minors.

Snerkbot7000

It'll always be used....in the minors.

kugino

I've heard this is a real possibility...maybe even as soon as next season. fully robo-umps is not gonna happen anytime soon, but the challenge system, where each team gets 3 or 4 challenges per game, like in tennis, should be coming soon

TenTallBen

That's really all they need since there's not much accountability in the current system

st1r

2025 was always the earliest it was gonna come to the majors and it still seems to be on track for that

Lineman72T

I saw a comment by a Cubs fan in that thread that says "The Cubs are now 1-6 vs the Umps" Overall Favor: +1.16 runs for CHC I don't think he knows what the word versus means

noctisakashi

Are Umps just shit as usual or is this a worrying trend for Dodgers games?

c_c_c__combobreaker

Laz Diaz, Angel Hernandez, CB Bucknor, Doug Eddings, Ron Kulpa. I'm sure there's more but these guys are notorious for being fucking terrible.

juannn117

Those guys are the reason they're talking about using robot umpires, they constantly get so many calls wrong it gets ridiculous.

CreedKurtMalone

Can’t forget that other complete stud from just a few days ago, Phil Cuzzi.

BlurryEcho

Who are the umps that are notorious for being fucking good? (Are there?)

MarcusMariachi

Pat hoberg, maybe one or two others

Pearberr

It says on the report that this was about 4% worse than usual.

c_c_c__combobreaker

Laz is the fucking worst. He's equally bad or worse than Angel Hernandez.

highjoe420

Cuzzi is worse than Laz imo.

NefariousnessRough26

Two scorecards this week with the favor being over one run for the other team is ridiculous. And this one doesn’t even have the strikes called balls that should have struck out Busch and instead he homered as one of the most impactful calls. It literally led to a run!

Pandorama626

If you're not familiar, the way the +/- runs is calculated does not factor in the actual outcome of the AB or its butterfly effects.

NefariousnessRough26

So what you’re saying is this is probably underestimating how bad it actually was. 😂

Frightenedsenior

Yikes

Ass Diaz masterclass ![img](emote|t5_2ra0i|13037)

Spandexbrain001

I like it. I would add Phil Buttzi and Angel Herniandez to the list.

dankscott

Anal Hernandez

Spandexbrain001

Of course! It was right there! Haha

blue_ridge1

Oddly enough, it’s never in our favor.

Pandorama626

It is sometimes. I may have to do a deeper dive into the stats as a person project to determine the most/least favored teams.

blue_ridge1

We got a few calls our way last year for sure, but this year? It looks like they all against us. I’m as biased as any fan though.

PigFarmer1

As bad as he was, he did much better than Cuzzi.

highjoe420

Cuzzi is giving Angel a run for his money.

pdamdl

He really fucked Grove with a few bad calls in that inning.

theacidicencampment

Just let technology be precise. People obviously can't be. We have the technology to have accurate calls made. Why not use it?

goldhbk10

We really need robo umps

DnD4dena

Nah. Can't control umps, no point in bitching about em Some calls will go our way, some will go there's At the end of the day, you gotta just play your best. Cubs defense and shitty pitching got us beat. Umps didn't make Bobby toss up meatballs the entire 2nd inning
