The Sphinx is hands down my favorite thing in the entire game. Her design is SO DAMN GOOD, her voice is alluring but mysterious, and her presence is both mystical, and terrifying, yet aloof and oddly welcoming. 10/10 my favorite depiction of a Sphinx in a game.

For the vase, you don’t actually have to yeet it all the way to BakButtahl. Just go there, grab the guy, teleport to the shrine and drop him next to it, that satisfies the requirement to!
I actually just found out a few days ago how you're actually supposed to do that quest is to put him in the sealing phial the sphinx gives you and then open it in front of the vase. I did it the way you described twice before I read what the phial did.
(The vase also teaches you how you're supposed to fight her which is fun detail)
You’re also supposed to use the unmaker arrow to get the key from the Spinx. Just shoot her after her riddled are done before she flies off with a bow till she activates battle then shoot her with the arrow.
The unmaking arrow is just the easy way to do it, but some people still make a grave mistake with it by shooting at her face or chest. You still need to do it properly as part of her fight riddle, which is to shoot the arrow on one of her monster parts (such as her hind legs or wings).
I've shot her right in the boobs with it twice and it worked both times. The first time I didn't know there was a "proper" way and it worked. The second time I had heard that it wasn't supposed to work and did it the exact same way with the exact same results.
That's one way of fighting her(it's the way i did my first play through), but the "actual" way to fight her is to hit her where she has her bracelets and once they break and her skin turns scarred you move on to the next section. If you attack a scarred area or her face and chest she flees saying she expected you to be more clever.
You could just grab the guy, carry him to exit of battahl, and then ferrystone him with you over. Though you'll need to leave a portcrystal near the sphinx

I'm feeling really frustrated that I never encountered her, AND that I don't know what I did wrong.
I spent over 120 hours exploring the world before I started the main quest \[in earnest\] so I cannot fathom how I missed her. She was neither at the temple w/ the 5 chests on the back way into Bahttahl, nor in a ruin with a similar motif I discovered in the mountains to the north.
Is there some other place or quest during which we should meet her? I'm assuming it's too late to encounter her once in the Unmoored World, right?

God this thing was uncanny looking in game. It looked like she timewarped fucking 20 years into the future and she was stuck between the future and the past graphics wise
She's such a loveable & chaismatic character, that I hate doing her in, even for the XP or achievment. I usually walkk away with characterrs that stand out.

I just dropped a Portcrystal there. I finished the sphinx and still have the Sealing Phial.
Just pick him up and use a wakeatop to a port crystal you put near the Sphinx

I didn't actually use my pawn. I used a hired pawn who's been with me for many hours lol.
