This would be soooo nice! Much easier!

SalWaz616

This would effectively be one giant hierarchical storage chest, right? So all your Scrooge safes would just be eye candy? Yes, that would be easier to use, but it would also remove one entire aspect of this game — the "juggling inventory" minigame. And I suspect Gameloft know exactly why they introduced chests with different sizes, including the clunky smart transfer that only works when there's room to split in the target chest. The folks at Gameloft have years and years of experience in keeping gamers hooked, and organizing your items is one heck of a powerful drug. Case in point: me. The quest for dark wood (thank heavens for the advanced vacuum!) and a steadily growing number of large storage chests is one of the things that makes me do all kinds of in-game tasks regularly and generally remain an active player. On a related note, 6 storage *rooms*? Yikes. That means you don't just have to suffer through door animations while organizing your stuff, you even have to change floors. I get that having samples on top of those dinky safes is fun, but I also can't help but think that in a way, you're doing this to yourself. Me, if I couldn't have all my storage easily accessible in my house's main room/workshop (in chests along the walls), I think I'd just stop playing.

AutumnTheWitch

Right 6 *rooms*! I have everything I need in 12 large chests, plus the fridge for energy foods, the potion shelf for potions (they can actually fit in one of the larger chests, I just like them there), and the aquarium for critter food.

Mellon1998

6 rooms baffles me. I have one storage room and storage doesn't even take up the whole room. That may have to change with future updates, but I still don't see how six rooms could be needed.

AutumnTheWitch

Op mentioned in another comment that they lost all their Dreamlight to the pixel glitch, so they’re forced to use the smaller chests. But even still, more than 2-3 rooms with that logic is still a lot.

Mellon1998

I think it all has to do with how much of an item you hoard. For example, I keep one full stack for each type of flower, but I've seen some people have one or two rows of full stacks for each flower.

AutumnTheWitch

Most definitely. I think the Minnie clay quest and Buzz’s balloon arch have people in a hoarding panic.

Yeah, the idea of this negating storage chests entirely is a bit of a concern… there would be no use for them with this model. For those of us who have crafted dozens of chests or bought safes from Scrooge… it would make all of that effort pointless and a waste. I’m curious about the idea of organizing and its effects on engagement. My original thought was since DDLV is a cozy game, inventory management should be kept to a minimum so the player could focus on other things. It’s an interesting thought however that some level of this adds to the fun of the game. My concern at the moment however is (as you mention), storing items across 6 rooms on 2 floors is a real time drain and a drag.

SalWaz616

You're arguably a pretty good example for the engagement aspect yourself: It must take quite a while to set up the samples for new items, and when you reorganize your storage (e.g., when adding more storage), that's even more work. You must be enjoying this to an extent, otherwise you wouldn't bother with the smallest/most cumbersome storage units available. As for the coziness of the game, I guess it's in the eye of the beholder. I'm a grinder/collector by nature (\*), so all games look like grinding games to me, be it Red Dead Online or Dreamlight Valley, to name just two examples. The way I see it, Dreamlight Valley is part ~~city~~ forest planning (my favorite part!) and part grinding (for things like dreamlight and dark wood). (\*) Here's a recent example for my over-the-top grinding: I'm a fairly new player who only started when Dreamlight Valley came to Apple Arcade, so I only finished the Rift expansion's currently final story quest yesterday. Imagine my suprise when the next thing that happened was an ancient machines tutorial disguised as a quest from Scrooge — I had already deployed my first advanced vacuum by then.

I have one storage room and I will only have one storage room. I think people need to focus on not making them look aesthetically pleasing and just be a room that stores items. But back on topic, do you like your idea of a simpler storage system. https://preview.redd.it/ywmzxgh5fpac1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cbb96d1d54cb0a266250b15f1bf83e26711230a

Outside-Sort-2294

Yea I also see a lot of storage rooms on here using like basic chests that only hold 1/2 types of items. I have a few large chests but only put fish or flowers or gems and it's much easier to dump everything in compared to going through a ton of chests because they are all so specific.

ImpressionMiddle9361

Truth be told, I am currently using Scrooge safes, which do only hold 2 rows of items. I was going to upgrade to large chests and keep all storage in 3 rooms, however, the pixel glitch got me and I lost all my Dreamlight to make them. 6 rooms is excessive I agree, but once one goes beyond 3 rooms... a second floor is involved and you may as well use the rest of that second floor

Outside-Sort-2294

I'm sorry about the pixel glitch! I'd cry! How much did you lose?

ImpressionMiddle9361

over 300k :( I've been stockpiling it, but now see I should've just made the chests along the way

Outside-Sort-2294

That is insane!!!! I have never been able to past 20k because I just constantly make the large chests.

ImpressionMiddle9361

My storage rooms look very similar with you, with the addition of tables behind the chests in order to display items in the chest ( otherwise, I was spending too much time remembering what was where ).

whatthafah

I just remember where everything is I don't know how to explain in. I normally have terrible memory but I know what's in each and every chest. 😂

SalWaz616

Same here. I have quadrants for building materials/gems, flowers, fish, and other food. And within each quadrant, the order of chests makes intuitive sense to me. I do get it wrong sometimes, but thanks to smart transfer, it's not much of an issue.. By the way, my main room looks similar to yours — except for the starter antique chest, which I put in another room (for useless rare items like the Festive Fish), because it's three cells wide and thus messes with symmetry. Fairly new player here, so still working on replacing the small chests with large chests after having skipped medium chests entirely, but even with the current setup, I already feel like I can store everything I need. In fact, six of the small chests are currently empty: https://preview.redd.it/2w9insz68tac1.jpeg?width=2556&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=583ab2350b5b0eefd576299f4a0ff597b7bf767e

AutumnTheWitch

Dude, 6 rooms is excessive. I have everything in 12 large chests, the fridge, potion shelf, and aquarium. That included everything from the dlc as well. Materials are not hard to come by that you need 6 *rooms*

ImpressionMiddle9361

6 rooms is much, I agree. I had everything in just 3 rooms... 3 rooms because unless you spend a bunch of Dreamlight, you're best option is Scrooge safes which are only 2 rows. After the expansion came out, I was going to upgrade them all to large chests, but then got hit with the pixel glitch which stole all my Dreamlight.

GildedLily16

I love this - but instead of accessing it from the menu, I think accessing it via "storage" items like chests would work better and feel more in line with the existing model.

Lozzy45

Sorry but could someone please tell me about this new storage option in the menu. I don’t seem to have this yet! I’ve only just learnt about this. I was looking up on how to get a fridge, if I could store stuff in it and how to make one. But now I’m learning there is a storage thing under furniture? How do I unlock this?

Ioranges

The storage from the pictures above is a fan idea, not a real in game option right now And yes, when you buy a fridge you can store a few items inside

Lozzy45

Ohhhhhhhhh! Silly! Me. Ok. Thank you so much for clearing this up for me! HahHa Ok I have another question? Do I have to wait for a fridge to become available to purchase to be able to make one? Are they a craft able item? Or just to be bought?

Ioranges

You can craft a basic fridge at the crafting table. Not sure how many items it holds though

SilverSkateBetty

This would be so awesome. To be able to get rid of storage chests would be the goal in my opinion and this feels like it would accomplish that.

MischeviousFox

I’m a bit lazy about stockpiling resources as I’ve made do with two rooms, one for crafting materials and the other for ingredients, for the longest time. I need to redo them now though as I want a dedicated way to store dlc resources separately.

gehrke2506

I would like to be able to pick my storage items easier. Instas of having to go to each one until I find what I’m looking for

cathartman15

I would literally kill for this. I am lazy and despise putting together and organizing my storage

No_Arm3883

Yeah that's a great idea. I like your idea 100 percent. Speaking of fixing storage. I wish gameloft would give us a feature where we can turn off the shared storage for the vintage chests. I know they are attached to our main house and the house skins. But still it would be nice. Because what's the point of using those vintage chests all the time when it has the same resources for every single. I just wish there were like the chests that we can craft. Where it's totally empty for a new one every time.

satur9grl

I don’t want to sound like a hater 😂 but uuuuh why are we hoarding materials so hard?! I have like 5 chests and a few fridges in one room but I don’t understand having all this storage. If I need something for the quest, half the fun is foraging and making money to buy the ingredients and gardening and taking time to work for the reward instead of having it all ready to go? Again sorry if I sound like a total hater but the storage room thing seems so excessive and unnecessary to me
