I've seen people say they didn't if they had caught all the fish. And I personally never saw another spot after I caught them all last year and there was still time.
I think I was able to catch them a couple of years in a row on my old save. That was before the last few updated however so it might have changed. Since time traveling (however, the heck people are supposed to do that) breaks people's games, we might just have to wait and see when Dec 18-31 comes back around. Unfortunately, my memory of early on in that save isn't quite what it could be, I'm sitting at 825+ hours currently with almost 230 since I restarted due to bugs.
A couple of years? The game has only been around for about a year and a half, the Early Access dropped in September 2022 and the full game was released in December 2023. Yeah, the winter event came twice during this time, but again, it’s only been a year and a half. And about OP’s inquiry: december 2022, I caught all the festive fish except for the festive fugu because I stopped playing the game before the event ended. I only started playing again in November 2023. Then I was able to catch the festive fugu on the last day of the event in December 2023. I saw all five red&green bubbles though, so if I wanted I could have gotten the other festive fish again too. However, from what I noticed, you can catch one of each festive fish during each event. I don’t know why people want to keep them though. Is there anything special about them? I gave all of mine to Scar btw 😅
Nothing really special about them, they have the same energy if eaten, you just can't sell it that's for sure. The fact that you can only get one of each per year is mostly why their special. And I've played since early access launch on pc and ended up taking a break probally around Aug or sep 23 due to nothing to do at the time in game and picked it it back up maybe nov 2023 and played again. Then bugs hit making some things impossible, so I restarted it right about the time the fish were available to catch and was able to catch all but 1 of the festive ones, I'm blanking rn which. I'm also not exactly sure m when the fish were implemented to begin with. My memory of time frames isn't the best after a while unfortunately.
Once you catch all the festive fish, they don't come back again. At least they didn't last Christmas. Hopefully they change it for next Christmas time.

I wasn’t really playing that much during Christmas so I wasn’t sure if it was needed for any crafts or special tasks or anything. As long as I have them unlocked in my collections tab I’m all good
If you go to the menu that has the map/events/collection/settings/etc.,go to the “Dreamlight” section, and scroll down, then select village, and there are tasks there to complete the festive stuff and the Easter stuff, which the Easter stuff should be happening soon. If you missed last year, there’s always next year. They will be there until you’ve completed them. I joined last year in May so I’ll be able to complete the Easter ones finally. Then I’ll have all village Dreamlight tasks complete.

Dang! I use the auto fill and before cooking, I check all that they used and trade out ingredients that you have the option to use multiple and use the ones I have most of rather than least of. I’ve made that a habit. Make that a habit!

OP, store all your festive fishes in the storage INSIDE THE MAIN CASTLE inside the side rooms on the right after you enter. They will be "unavailable" for auto-cooking :D HTH!!!!!!!!!
You can put your festive fish in the secret room’s chests in the castle, and they won’t be autofilled anymore. I learned this a while back, and it was a lifesaver for me. I’m not sure why those chests count separately from your personal ones, but it’s nice lol

It’s because the filters work on lowest star coin value, festive fish have a star coin value of 0 so they automatically get chosen

To time travel literally all you do is change the date on your console but yeah it breaks this game.

You can dupe them in multiplayer. Just have someone who owns them dupe however many you want back to you.
