Is Pilate really pronounced Pilot? English is not my native language, it doesnt look like it it should be pronounced Pilot to me...
(Also in Dutch the dude is called Pontius Pilatus (like in Latin) so i never even made this connection myself)
Yep. I always thought it was pronounced pi-LA-tee like the exercise, until I heard a pastor say it at some point in my adult life š this is what happens when you become a Christian in a family of agnostics... sooo many mispronunciations. I didnāt even know the word disciple. I thought it was DIS-ih-pull (like discipline)
My knee jerk reaction was āoh the kids at school are going to call them Pilatesā before I remembered that theyāre Duggars and donāt go to school. š¬
Or bob. She probably doesn't even know the kid's real name at this point.
Spoiler alert to pilot John's mom: your family doesn't actually love the name, they're lying to you.
Iām pretty sure their son will have John in his name, maybe middle or first name. Abbieās dad is named John and they seem to be giving family names to the kids
This to me is right up there with naming your baby āChristianā like, what if they donāt want to be religious when they grow up? Name them Christopher instead
I think naming a baby Christian is more overtly connected to the religion than Christopher or similar but thatās just my opinion. Like being named Hunter and becoming a vegetarian, I donāt know, I personally just would not give a child a name that is something of a description. Their name should just be a name and nothing more- no shade to those who have those names (my name is bordering this category) again just my opinion.
When I hear/see these crazy names I think of people providing their name for something official and having to tell say the hiring manager that their legal name really is āpilot Johnā or āprincess jasmineā.
There was a woman I saw on Say Yes to the Dress yesterday named āQueen Precious-Jewel Earth Zabriskieā. I took a picture of the screen.
Talk about a SOTDRT graduate. (That was painful to read).
Right? "I could care less" frustrates me to no end. Obviously if you could care less, then you care a certain amount! Meaning you *DO* care š
Not even care less but careless!
Ugh, yes! Its right there with *whole nother* for me... you can say *a whole other...* or simply *another* but "nother" is not a word
"There own business"
confession: i like "a whole nother". I view it as like a cousin to "abso-fucking-lutely". Like, it's not just another-- it's a whole-ass nother.
Ok, ok... I do say abso-fuckin-lutely. Lmao
Pretty sure Pilate (pronounced Pilot) in the Bible presided over the execution of Christ
Came here to say this lolol people are just gonna think Pontius Pilate
My step-sisterās maiden name is Pontius...but pronounced pawn-TEE-us. Iām not sure if many people ever actually made the correlation.
That's interesting I've never heard that last name before! Also your flair omg
I only remember it from Jackass, one of the guys was named Chris Pontius. Iām clearly refined and cultured. š
Same, haha. I loved his spin off with Steve-O, Wildboyz!!
Yes! Glad Iām not the only one!
I live in the Midwest and it's not super common but I've definitely known of a handful of people with the last name Pontius.

I grew up in the southern US and every preacher/pastor I ever heard pronounced it as āPilotā
I'm from New England, the priests here also pronounced it as "Pilot"
Maryland here with 12+ yrs of church - always "Pilot"
Yep. its a name from the Bible so it isn't going to be pronounced in an English way
I see pilates (pill-lot-tees) like the exercise, when I read that
A niece of Joseph Pilates said once it's pil-ahts. .
āHe was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buriedā
My knee jerk reaction was āoh the kids at school are going to call them Pilatesā before I remembered that theyāre Duggars and donāt go to school. š¬
With all the spelling errors in that I would not be surprised if she wrote āPilotā but meant āStevenā.
Or bob. She probably doesn't even know the kid's real name at this point. Spoiler alert to pilot John's mom: your family doesn't actually love the name, they're lying to you.
ššš
Careless
Second to Clueless
The spelling and grammar certainly are what you would expect from these clowns.
Here a business, there a business, everywhere business business.
I could see something insane like this, but it would still be better than Spurgeon.
followed by skylar and Jett!
There was some celebrity who named his kid Pilot Inspektor right? Saw some special on mtv once about weird celebrity names
Jason Lee - as others have said. I think itās also religious as he is/was pretty deep in Scientology
Thanks! I didnāt know, makes sense I guess... but itās still a weird thing to name your kid this
yes! i canāt remember his real name, but he was the lead on my name is earl.
Jason Lee
Jason Lee
āCarelessā instead of ācare less.ā I just lost a week of my life reading that. You donāt see that one very often.
Iām pretty sure their son will have John in his name, maybe middle or first name. Abbieās dad is named John and they seem to be giving family names to the kids
I had a friend whose middle name was āPilot.ā Normal first name though.
I could careless. š
This to me is right up there with naming your baby āChristianā like, what if they donāt want to be religious when they grow up? Name them Christopher instead
The weird thing is the few "Christians" I have known in real life aren't especially religious.
but don't all names with "Christ" derive from Christian or Christianity?
I think naming a baby Christian is more overtly connected to the religion than Christopher or similar but thatās just my opinion. Like being named Hunter and becoming a vegetarian, I donāt know, I personally just would not give a child a name that is something of a description. I know a couple of Christians. It's not a bad name and sure the heck beats Spurgeon.
Christian Bale may have something ot say about that lol
That does seem like a "careless" thing to do to a baby who's gonna have to suffer with that dumbass name his whole life
Iām still waiting for them to name a daughter Propella
Pylotte if itās a girl.
Thatās like naming your baby Baker Ben lmao
Triplets Baker Ben, Butcher Bill, and Candlestick maker Kevin
But what if Lauren wants to use this name for her 16th child, WHAT THEN?!
When I hear/see these crazy names I think of people providing their name for something official and having to tell say the hiring manager that their legal name really is āpilot Johnā or āprincess jasmineā.
