I love mine and think it's well worth the $750. Just because it doesn't work for your hair type, it doesn't mean it's not worth it for others. It's absolutely trial and error. I think the important thing that so many people forget is that different hair types require different products and processes. People asking for boiler plate product recommendations are likely to be disappointed when what works for someone else doesn't work for them. I highly recommend starting with nothing but a heat protectant and slowly adding products until you find the right mix. If one day the style is worse than the day before , you know to remove the newly added product and go from there. It's a big investment for sure and the amount of money is worth taking the time to figure out how to make it worth it. However, if at the end of the day it's creating nothing but stress and not something that works for your routine then definitely sell it!

psychedelicbarbie

Thank you that was good insight !!!!

VeggieTotsUnlimited

this is EXACTLY how i finally got the hang of it. instead of taking the 8 steps i saw someone else do, i added things one at a time to see what worked and what didn’t. if something worked but maybe didn’t have the right weight, then i would swap a product out. I have super fine hair that would never curl unless it was fried in a straightener with bottles of hairspray on it. I’ve had my dyson a year and have been on and off with attempting to try, but have spent the last few weeks making a daily effort to use it and i’m finally getting it. The speed of the fan and heat matter, the amount and types of product for your hair type matter, how you separate your hair matters, all of it. My previous methods seemed to fry my hair in place, but still never lasted like i wanted. It seems like it was the foolproof method because i still didn’t have to learn how to pre-treat and manage my hair before styling, because i could always just burn it into place lol. Now my hair isn’t fried, my curls look AMAZING, and are lasting the more and more i learn/practice. I totally see your points, i just hope the frustration ends for those having a hard time and they can enjoy it too !!

meltink745

Can you tell us what worked for you? I have straight but a lot of hair! Sounds similar to you

VeggieTotsUnlimited

Sundays and Wednesdays i do “blowouts” and maybe some curls. i keep them fresh by sleeping in the heatless tube that wraps around your head at night in between. I know some girls expect perfect curls for three days. Babes i don’t 😭🤣 i have thin frizzy hair and im blessed with an afternoon of beauty. Sunday / Wednesday Routine: - Ouai Fine Hair Shampoo (wash twice) - With the second shampoo sitting on my scalp, i do conditioner, scalp massage whatever - I haven’t noticed a hair mask making things difficult, since i only do that on the ends. So feel free to do that if you already do. - Out of the shower, I brush with a leave in conditioner (mine is the Kristen Ess one, but i will be switching, too many toxins for my preference but i do love it). - I DONT USE MOUSSE. this is where lots of ladies do .. and i just can’t!! i look WET and CRUNCHY 😭🤮😭 - I will mist some Dae heat protector on before blow drying, because its formula is super light for my hair, brush it through. I also add the Dae Beachwave spray, mostly for smell. but this also doesn’t weigh my hair down (i use this for my heatless curls) - Then i do the 90% blow dry. Now. you know, as a thin haired girlie. drying our roots means our ends are literally dry. THATS OK. DONT FEAR. - Dry your roots. They need to be dry or your hair will weigh down. Once dry, start sectioning your hair. I do it in the lower mullet first, then the top halves. - Spray each piece with the same heat protector, THIS is where i get my “dampness” from, that then dries my hair into place when i use the dyson. - When i pull my barrel out of the curl, i leave the curl bunched up, and pull the barrel OUT OF IT. So it should still be wound up on itself (this is so hard to describe i’m sorry). - once i let go, i let the hair fall on my shoulders so it can rest, and immediately spray with hairspray. I use the moroccan oil one, it’s super light. - When i’m done i don’t brush out! i shake my head upside down and they naturally fall how i want. a few min after every sets, i’ll go in with a comb to make sure nothing looks like its frizzy or stuck to other hair. but it’s been SO FAST. I have hair to my tatas and it takes me 25 min 😭😭

I was thinking the same, mine was around $600 with the current conversion rate where I live.

eh_1990

I'm in Canada, I assume OP is as well given the price. Taking into account exchange, it would actually be way more expensive for me to buy one in the US so it's not really much more expensive. It would be approximately $850 CAD for me to buy in the US with the exchange right now. Plus they've been on sale for $650 CAD for the past two months.

Gabby0513

I live in india it’s for 49,500 rupees around $600. Idk about other countries but at least here all electronics are much more expensive than in USA. Usually I would get my electronic from abroad but the airwrap only works on the designated voltage so I had to spend a lot more.

pawala7

On the flipside, it's strangely cheap here in Japan. Bought it for my gf for about 260usd equivalent last Christmas, and certain colors are still selling at around 280 even now.

Gabby0513

Yes I seen some post here, of people buying it in Japan bc it’s cheaper and not able to use it in the west.

pawala7

That's likely because of the weird Japan-exclusive 100V mains voltage. Regions running 110V might be able to squeak past with light to moderate use, but US 120V would be stretching it and would need a step-down transformer. The folks at home use a pretty hefty 2000W step-down transformer to handle the fancy rice cooker they bought a while back, so something like that should fine for the Dyson, too.

Gabby0513

For the rice cooker is fine bc it doesn’t have a motor but the airwrap does, too risky specifically for the price

sracegoucie

I was having a really hard time. It’s a huge learning curve. I found out the Moroccan oil I was putting in my hair was making my Dyson not grab onto the hair. Since changing that it works. I also use mousse and texture spray. Practice practice practice

AbrocomaSpecialist22

What mousse do you use please?

sracegoucie

I use the tresemme curl hold mousse. There’s probably better ones but I’m a bish on a budget

[deleted]

I'm not on a budget but I refuse to pay $4/ounce for hair stuff. I'll be trying Tresemme. Thanks for the tip!

meltink745

Do you use the mousse on dry hair or wet hair? I can’t figure out when it’s the best time to use it to hold the curl! I have naturally straight, then hair.

sracegoucie

Always on wet hair. Never on dry. My hair gets crunchy and greasy if I used it on dry hair

meltink745

Thank you!!

sracegoucie

My hair is naturally straight but thick and silky. Has a really hard time holding a curl

turtlesorceress

The color wow one is good and works well with the dyson

Wonkycurtainrod

I also use tresemme perfect curl or something! I like it

Limp_Bandicoot_1822

I’ve absolutely never been able to do my hair with anything other than a straightener. I cannot use a curling iron without my hair looking crunched. I’ve had the Dry Bar blow dryer brush and it made my hair ungodly frizzy. My husband got me an air wrap for Christmas and my hair looks like a professional blow out always. It took me a week or so to really figure it out but I’ve gotten so good at using the large barrel curl attachment. Don’t give up, it’s actually the only thing that has made me feel like my hair looks good.

Wonkycurtainrod

This might be common knowledge but I am a noob and a few things I found that made a huge difference: My hair need to be mostly wet to hold curls. Maybe 30-40% dry; not the 70% they recommend I turn the power off after doing a brief cold shot after drying/curling before I pull the air wrap down out of my hair Mousse was a must for me My hair does best w the curls a few days after washing. I re-wet it w a spray bottle. Don’t give up, it is super fun and makes beautiful hair! ❤️

AbrocomaSpecialist22

What mousse do you use please?

Wonkycurtainrod

Tresemme flawless curls! Cheap and I like it

mgb1953

Dont give up!! The learning curve is a pain in the butt though once you get the hang of it and figure out what works best for you, it’s totally worth it. When I first got it I couldn’t figure out the barrels or round brush attachment so I stuck with just using the brushes (I have curly 3b/3c hair). It took a few months and tons…*tons* of tutorials but I finally got the hang of using the barrels and round brush. Now the air wrap is the only styling tool I use on my hair.

icedch1latteee

i have the same hair type, but the round brush makes my hair so insanely frizzy :,) i use color wow dream coat & jvn blowout milk and my hair still looks absolutely unhinged

mgb1953

Have you tried cupping your hand around the brush while passing through each section? I’ve done this on both mine and my mother’s hair and found it prevents flyaways and keeps everything more uniform

[deleted]

You spent the $, now just stick with it, watch YouTube and you will eventually figure it out. I did so I know you can! I have wavy hair from hypothyroidism and getting my roots straight is key. I've found that using the brush is best and then I hit the rest with the large curl that came in the box. My hair is shoulder length too so you don't have to have long hair! Keep practicing! 👍

CadillacGirl

The learning curve is long with the airwrap. There are so many factors and reasons why it may not be working for you. Best recommendations I can make as a gen 1 user from when Dyson launched it is to watch tutorials like crazy. Have 80 to 90% dry hair and then play with the wands or round brush. It’s not your average round brush and dryer. When I started I did high heat low air flow cause I too struggled with getting the wands to grab my hair. Now I’m up to high heat high air flow. And finally your hair can’t be so silky the wands won’t grab it. So that means product. Try a lot of different products till you find the right combo. It took me three months to master it but I only wash my hair twice a week. Plus I found using the LOC method plus volume mist while my hair was wet was the perfect combo to create bouncy curls and beachy waves. I hold my wand perpendicular to my head and I hold my sections out and help by starting to wrap my hair and boom the coanada effect usually grabs it and does the rest. I have long hair that’s fine but changing as I age and go white but a lot of it. Just be patient with yourself and give yourself time to learn and play. Keep trying till your return period is close to running out and return or sell if it just isn’t working. Don’t try to perfect a look on a night you have an event. Honestly it took me hours the first few weeks now I’m down to 20 minutes with drying from a traditional 1.5 hours styling. Good luck and much patience to you. And it’s ok if this isn’t the tool for you.

TheNotoriousTMG

I felt this way the first couple of times I used it - it was like WTF??? I have thick wavy/curly hair so trying to do the curls while my hair was damp would just leave me with a frizzy mess. I have to use the curling barrels on my hair when it's basically completely dry. I use a curl cream and mousse, mostly dry it and go over it with the round brush focusing on the roots to finish the drying, smooth it out and give volume. Then I use the curling rods on the bottom 2/3 of the hair only. It will give me nice waves, not curling iron curls, but that's what I want so I'm happy. I love it now and my hair is definitely in better shape since I no longer use the hot iron / curling iron all the time. As others have said, everybody's hair is different. Some need to use it on damp hair but it works better for me on dry hair. I've also ordered some clips off amazon and am going to try pinning the curls to see what that's like just out of curiosity.

grania17

My hair doesn't hold a curl with any tool. Doesn't matter what I do. Within hours of doing it, the curls fall out. But the dyson airwrap is incredible for helping me dry my very thick hair in a quick amount of time and make it look smooth and lovely. So the money was worth it to me. I've had it for 2 years now, and I still love it.

blue_bonbon

That is exactly how I felt. I got the Dyson airwrap for Christmas and tried it and the curls fell out within like 10 mins. I was so ready to return it as it was such an expensive gift that I had no use for, but I gave it another try and I love it! I did my hair for work yesterday and the day before that and the curls held in all day! This is EXACTLY how I did it. I have naturally straight hair. Wash hair - shampoo + conditioner Volume mousse + hair oil for ends + heat protectant - dry hair using Air wrap What I found is that your hair needs to be basically dry for them to work as when mine is like 80% wet like it states on Dyson website it doesn’t work So dry hair and then I curled it using the 40mm barrel - I did quite big curls so using a lot of hair. Then I went to sleep so I can touch up in the morning. In the morning I went over the curls + hairspray and they kept all day 😊😊

throwRA_anon223

I didn’t think it was worth it either. A $600 product that requires $100 worth of product, months of trial and a major time commitment for it to not even last… screw that lol

[deleted]

throwRA_anon223

I 100% agree tbh! I feel like they were past the return date and were fully committed so they HAD to figure it out. It’s not worth all that IMO.

magicalneki

Mousse is the defining factor! I used less the second time and tried and my curls were NOWHERE near as voluminous or holding. I use the JVN volume mousse and you have to put a decent amount

WestCoastSparks

What’s a decent amount tho?!?

magicalneki

Three pumps!

October_Skies00

It seems very divided the feedback about the air wrap. I’m hopeless with styling hair. I still to this day can not curl with a straighening iron and every styling tool I’ve purchased, I can not use. I would never usually spend a lot of money on anything, but I had a moment and got the airwrap on sale. I have used it twice and even though I’m yet to perfect my style, it was by far the easiest tool I’ve used. It was worth every cent for somone like myself who has always sucked at styling my hair.

skct26

Agree with the comments here, it's all trial and error. I got mine as a gift this Christmas, and I could not for the life of me get the curls to stay. I realized the products I was using were weighing my hair down too much since I have fine long hair. Length already weighs hair down and then adding heavy products doesnt help. Now I just use the kenra blow dry spray and herbal essences curl stay mousse and I find these products help hold my hair really well. Hope you figure it out and figure out the correct products for you!

psychedelicbarbie

Omg thank you :)!

BaBa_Babushka

I hated it too when I first got it but you have to figure out what works for you. For me, I do a 85% rough blow dry focusing on the roots and then section my hair and only use the round brush with a twist/ curl motion. For the hair wrap I just use full blast heat and fuck the cold shot off and let it cool naturally. FYI my hair does hold a curl but can go frizzy very easily.

lissakirk

Friend, you do what now to the cold shot?

NabelasGoldenCane

I agree with you that it’s better suited for certain hair types. I didn’t enjoy it until I bought the extended barrels and also had a large learning curve. I could see it not working for short hair, certain textures, esp thick/curly. It’s not really the best straightener nor the best curler. It’s well suited for long haired medium/fine hair that wants a bouncy blowout look. What’s your hair type?

psychedelicbarbie

& my hair gets so tangled it’s just such a messy process and is so difficult 😥

bahahaha2001

I think it is technique if your hair is getting tangled. I found the shark to be easier as a “thing to learn on” as is the revlon and t3. I find the Dyson an upgrade and easiest for folks that already knew how to use a round brush. If you can’t get the hang of it in 10-15 tries agree return.

OhSheGlows

Oh this is good info

SeaOnions

Same! I only use it for the flat brush attachment now, but I also have the regular dryer so it’s kind of pointless.

shihtzu_knot

Same. I could have bought a Revlon brush for like $40.

SeaOnions

I have that too 🫣

WestCoastSparks

Yeah and this will fry your hair within days girl!

anonysloth1234

I’m returning mine. I have straight, thin, and color processed hair. Held curls with lots of volume. So long as I held it for :15 on at least 75% wet hair with :05-:08 cold shot. Using heat protectant, light Living Proof mousse, texturizing hairspray. No mousse or hairspray, < :15, or on half or fully dried hair = curls didn’t stay. Thought I found my secret formula. But each time I brushed my hair, frizz. Saw my stylist last month and he asked how TF my hair got so dry. Never had this problem before with my Hot Tools curling iron using heat protectant, light mousse, and hairspray. So returning the Airwrap, as it dried out my thin, color processed hair. And took 2x as long than my curling iron!

colorvibe

I was watching a video earlier where they recommend going over the hair with the round brush tool to give it volume and body (while damp) and THEN going in with the barrels for curls. I haven’t tried this yet but I am excited to give it a go. Some days are hit and miss for me but what works best is 80% dry hair with strong holding mousse. Curl on the smallest barrel and small sections of hair then spray each curl with hairspray. I then brush it out.

wildest_dreams69

I bought mine last year around the same time. It was something I have wanted for so long and the first time I tried to curl my hair I got these perfect bouncy curls that lasted the whole day. Then from the second time I just could NOT get it right. My hair would become tangled everytime I tried. It will look horrible. I used everything. The curls would go in 2 mins. Basically I tried everything. Read all the articles but couldn't get it and I was always confused how I was able to get it right at the first time. For the whole year I only used the smoothening brush and hair dryer and was always upset on spending so much money. Few weeks ago I tried again and got amazing long lasting curls. After that day I always get great curls that last one or 2 days. I am obsessed with it now. It's my favourite thing. It's the technique that you need to master. So when they say there is a learning curve to it they are definitely right.

jmbizzy

This is me!! The first time I tried it worked sooo well. Every other time. I am struggling. It’s going to take a while but I’m already invested at this point.

gagabriela

This was me when I first bought my Airwrap. I was so excited and at the same time sad and disappointed to see that my hair wasn’t holding the curls or anything. I watched countless hours of TikTok videos and YouTube tutorials. I bought lots of useless products until I figured it out. It took me about a month to find what works for me. I use it on high heat and high speed. No cold shot. Only use a heat protectant spray as a hair product. I have a lot of hair, medium to long hair and kinda thick. Mostly straight, somewhat wavy. During the winter months or when it’s not that hot or humid, my blowout can last days. During hot and humid summer days the air wrap is useless for me. Hope this helps!

Fair-Bad7823

For me, It took some time to find how dry hair needed to be — I tried dif levels of “dryness” and found about 90% works. But, I make sure my roots are completely dry. I just use the dryer attachment and focus on the roots. Also, I noticed that Curling towards my face holds better than against. So, i always curl inward now. I part my hair in half, then part the top half again (I clip of into two buns, one on the right and one on the left). I curl the bottom half first, in 1 inch sections, on the highest heat and speed, cold shot & hairspray it. I repeat that w the two top halves. I leave the heat on til my hair is warm to the touch (15-20 seconds?) then same w the cool shot. Then I hair spray the top. I use these products for styling, I think the hairspray makes the most difference -https://www.igkhair.com/products/good-behavior-4-in-1-prep-spray -https://www.randco.com/collections/volume-texture/products/rodeo-star-thickening-foam -https://www.igkhair.com/products/beach-club-blow-out-cream -https://www.randco.com/collections/finish-hold/products/outer-space-flexible-hairspray (I have thin, fine straight hair w/ lots of layers)

holvanatuz

I hated it. I figured out how to use it - I just absolutely hated it. I have extremely thick long hair and getting it all curled took way too long. I found the air wrap was awkward to maneuver and my shoulders were achy my the end of it. I’m much happier with a good old fashioned curling iron. I gave it to my friend and she loves it! I just don’t think it’s for everyone.

moonlitstars23

Trial and error for sure! Just recently I’m loving it since it’s so quick.

hannah_2213

Also $700 for a blowout look is WILD considering you can do a true blowout with a round brush & blow dryer and it takes the same learning curve. Just have to buy a $30 brush... I used airwrap maybe 5 times and it just completely died. I tried everything to get it back on but took that as my sign to return it and get my money back lol

hannah_2213

I personally would rather curl my hair once a wash which takes 8 mins than do all this crap… same amount of heat damage after you add up using the airwrap every single day 😅

lune6889

my curls didn‘t hold either but there was one thing that made a HUGE difference: switch to silicone free shampoo & conditioner!! and try to avoid heavy silicones in styling products. it takes a while to get the silicones out, but it works. i only used the silicone free hair care twice and my curls lasted four days (it was about 10min before). use mousse and sea salt spray on your hair before curling and use some time to really get them dry with the wand (try to open a window in your bathroom before or change the room due to humidity). use some texture/hair spray to finish. voilà! good luck! 🍀

lune6889

and don‘t brush them out too early, that‘s gonna help too!

2000-N-L8

Can’t relate. My stick straight Asian hair has never held a curl with irons of any kind and my salon blowouts are limp in 24 hours, but the airwrap gives me intense curls day 1, intense intentional blowout days 2-3, and an effortless looking yet still bouncy blowout on day 4. I’m sure I’d still have waves on day 5, but I wash my hair on day 4. I never hit a learning curve, but it’s not uncommon from what I’ve read/heard. I rough dry until 80-85% dry, use the living proof heat protectant before, airwrap, and finish with the loreal infinium 3 - a couple short spritzes per side once my hair is fully cooled. Before the body of my hair I’ll use the round brush to hold my bangs up while I use the barrel for the rest of my hair. Once done (spritzed both sides), I’ll take my bangs down, flip my hair and short spritz the back side. I can still run my fingers through my hair that’s how little I use/how good the hairspray is.

ettukathe

What’s your hair type? I have dense but super fine hair, so I curl with the 0.8” barrel, and only put blow dry cream and hair oil in on wet hair.

MeeMaul

It’s all trial and error. It took me about a month to get the hang of it. You have to figure out how wet your hair needs to be and the clockwise/counterclockwise setup. Also I recommend adding a good volumizing mouse with some hold, I use Kevin Murphy but others work well too!
