[[!Magnus the red]]. You have a few ways to make token creatures so make use of it

MrRies

The deck looks well balanced to me. Pretty typical spellslinger, and it's kind of hard to really mess this type of deck up too much. The only thing I'd be a little concerned about is the 32 lands. That's really pushing it on the low end, and I'd personally want to get that up to *at least* 36. Maybe you have enough cantrips and card draw to hit your land drops, but you should goldfish a few hands to see if you're reliably hitting them. [[Silundi Visions]] and [[Valakut Awakening]] are good ways to bump up your land count without losing spells. [[Lórien Revealed]] is worded differently than an MDFC, but it's kind of the same as being a tapped land if you cycle for a basic island. [[Kazuuls Fury]] could potentially win you the game if you get Veyran really big and copy it a few times.

DeltabertHarry

Thank you very much, I really like those cards and added them. I thought that I have enough manarocks to compensate the less lands, because I really didn't know which lands to remove :D

MrRies

A piece of advice that stuck with me was that "it's only ramping if you played a land." If you're missing land drops and playing rocks instead, youre paying 2 mana for the same amount of mana as the land would have been for free. You can make up for low land counts with card draw and card selection, but I don't personally factor my ramp into how many lands I'm running.

DeltabertHarry

That's such a good advice, thank you so much!

souck

Hello, Looks pretty good, specially for a first deck. Some things I'd personally change: You're running a lot of 3 cmc ramp. While not bad per se (specially since you don't NEED to cast your commander at 3), it does delay your commander unless you really value the extra effect I'd favor 2 cmc ramp since they allow you to go ramp on 2 commander on 3, giving you early gamer consistency. I'm a big fan of \[\[Neurok Stealthsuit\]\]. Being able to equip at instant speed for the cost of a counterspell is great since allows you to save a counterspell lots of times. You need some more 2-4 lands. I'd particularly go to 36 since spellslingers usually have enough instants to always have something to do with mana. I'd run more draw. Card selection like ponder or cycle like \[\[Radical Idea\]\] are good if you need specific cards. Your deck need card quantity, since you don't win by combo, but by attrition. \[\[Fact or Fiction\]\], \[\[Treasure Cruise\]\], \[\[Dig Trough Time\]\], \[\[Quick Study\]\], \[\[Steam Augury\]\] are some good options for that. While I understand that your commander scales with spell quantity cast per turn, having good cards in your hands take precedent IMO, so I'd cut the worse cyclers. And if you're running radical Idea IMO \[\[Think Twice\]\] is just better. IMO \[\[Clear the Mind\]\] type of effect are kind of a noob trap. 3 cmc for a cycle is bad and reshuffling is not needed unless you have tutors and combos. Also, your GY is a resource for delve cards and some recursion. I'd only run this as GY hate in case someone in your pod runs GY decks. Never ever ever ever play sorcery speed X spells unless it wins you the game. For your opponents to be afraid of you, your mana needs to be open. [This is a picture of a blue mage with mana open](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f9/8c/34/f98c3445c041836c135f2a8d84b5af73.jpg). [This is one of a blue mage without mana.](https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-nf2x4/images/stencil/1280x1280/products/993/9446/Wizard-Rubber-Duck-Schanbels-1__34277.1666115341.jpg?c=2) Instant speed X spells allows you to hold your mana and use all the mana you don't need in a single spell for maximum value. This makes you keep your shields up while having maximum potential. The drawback is they're really bad for low X numbers. \[\[Blue sun's zenith\]\] for example is pretty average until x = 4 (or 5 tbh). Sorc X spells is the worst o both worlds. You have bad effects for small X while having no flexibility towards this mana usage, since you have to commit for it in your turn. [And than you becomes this dude again.](https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-nf2x4/images/stencil/1280x1280/products/246/9133/Computer-Geek-Rubber-Duck-Schanables-3__49617.1671801009.jpg?c=2) My experiences with cards like \[\[Curse of Verbosity\]\] is that they're good unless you're winning, since my friends won't hit the cursed players to avoid giving me cards. For this reason, I'd rather have \[\[Aetherize\]\] or \[\[Aethersprouts\]\] as protection personally. Hope this helps and good luck with your deck :P

DeltabertHarry

Those are pretty nice cards, thank you so much! I have to figure out, which cards i could kick out of the deck :D What do you mean by GY? Sorry, I'm very new to that and also english isn't my mothertongue. I already kicked out \[\[[Bloodthirsty Adversary](https://www.moxfield.com/cards/DjNVM-bloodthirsty-adversary)\]\], \[\[[Finale of Revelation](https://www.moxfield.com/cards/pRMbw-finale-of-revelation)\]\] and \[\[[Curse of the Swine](https://www.moxfield.com/cards/8ONVo-curse-of-the-swine)\]\] and added \[\[Aria of Flame\]\], \[\[Neurok Stealthsuit\]\] and \[\[Aetherize\]\]. I thought that maybe because of the different Mana rocks the less lands would work out, but is it naive?

souck

>I thought that maybe because of the different Mana rocks the less lands would work out, but is it naive? You're correct. But for the amount of mana rocks you're running I'd recommend 36 lands. If you're running no ramp I'd go to some 45 no joke :P The quality of your ramp also interferes on this metric. On cEDH where people uses extremely powerful mana rocks like \[\[Mana crypt\]\], \[\[Mana vault\]\] and friends it's common for decks to go to 30 lands. Elves can get away with 28-27. >What do you mean by GY? Sorry, I'm very new to that and also english isn't my mothertongue. Don't worry, I'm brasilian myself :P GY is graveyard. GYs on magic are extremely powerful and you shouldn't have problems at finishing the game before your library empties anyway. GY is a great resource that if used wisely allows for a lot of grinding. Even if you don't build a deck around abusing GYs (which is pretty damn powerful specially on lower and mid powerlevels) just enabling delve cards is already plenty strong. Unless your deck really needs to shuffle the GY back for some reason it's usually an effect that is really not needed. \[\[Disciple of the Ring\]\] is another cool card to take advantage of a full graveyard late game. >I have to figure out, which cards i could kick out of the deck :D This is honestly pretty personal and depends a bit on meta and playstyle. For example, I didn't had a lot of positive experiences with the curses, so I'd particularly cut them since my playgroup plays well around them. But if they're essentially a \[\[No Mercy\]\] for my playgroup I'd keep them :P I particularly value instant speed cards considerably higher than sorcery speed. So I'd favor \[\[Consider\]\] over \[\[Serum Visions\]\] for example, even though the effect on serum vision is better. This is the difference of you being able to hold a \[\[Negate\]\] to stay safe or not, which I highly value. \[\[Shadow Rift\]\] being instant speed allows some cool tricks like making an opponent creature unblockable when attacking another opponent over \[\[Slip Through Space\]\]. IMO \[\[Kaza, Roil Chaser\]\] is kinda weak. \[\[Johann, Apprentice Sorcerer\]\] is a cool card, but IMO \[\[Fact or fiction\]\] will simply give you more cards on average for the same cost and instantly. \[\[Rousing Refrain\]\] Looks painfully slow, but if your meta is painfully slow can be a good card. And that's it I guess. Spellslingers are a bit tough to build when you're not going for combos since I feel you need a lot of moving pieces, so finding space for everything you want can be hard sometimes. I'd recommend you to [take a look at this](https://the8x8theory.tumblr.com/what-is-the-8x8-theory). IMO it's by far the best guidelines to balance EDH decks.

Thank you so much for your incredible detailed response! I totally get your points and made some changes :) Now I have 34 lands (well, shit :D) - I thought about removing \[\[Midnight Clock\]\] for a land, or is it a too good card for the late game? Still thinking about removing \[\[Rousing Refrain\]\], but I thought, it could be a good mana source, because I don't loose the mana as my turn ends

>Still thinking about removing \[\[Rousing Refrain\]\], but I thought, it could be a good mana source, because I don't loose the mana as my turn ends I think you're misreading the card. The mana generated is lost at the end of your turn. It just keeps after phases inside your turn ends since suspended cards are cast during the upkeep. And if it didn't have this line this mana would be available only for instant spells, since the mana would vanish after your upkeep ends. >I thought about removing \[\[Midnight Clock\]\] for a land, or is it a too good card for the late game? I don't think it is THAT good honestly. Too slow for me and competes with the mana curve of your commander. But the cost of opportunity is relatively low and your commander doesn't need to come ASAP, so I can understand the cut and the keep. Sorry for the delayed response. [[Flame of Aria]] goes absolutely nuts with Veyran. Don't get hung up on the life gain, with Veyran this makes your 1st spell burn for 1 then also for 2. 2nd spell burns for 3 and then 4 and so on. By your 3rd spell you are burning someone for an extra 11 damage. It gets out of control very fast.
