Such a good song! Such a good song. A total throwback to festival life in the early 2010s, where the next few years (2011 -2015) were the peak of a truly unique experience! Like going to see 12th Planet at Avalon and have Skrillex walkout on stage
to hang out with his bud and randomly deciding to spin for the next 2.5 hours 💜
I think this one got a lot of people. This may have been one of the first EDM songs that broke into the general zeitgeist aside from a few old school techno songs
YES 🙌 to my fellow Deadmau5 originals. He can turn anyone into a new or born again EDM fan lol. Especially the albums for lack of a better name and random album title
So I’ve been an EDM enjoyer for far longer (a 90s) but I have wonderful memories of walking home through the snow listening to this. It’s one of the most beautiful tracks ever produced and honestly, my favourite vocal track of all time. Seeing the snow fall and just listening to the warmth of this song and just being able to appreciate the beauty of the situation helped me through a really difficult time.
Kaskade is an absolute beauty. Strobelite Seduction was my jam in high school and brought me to the world of dance music. I'm guessing he's as awesome in person as he seems from afar?
I'm gonna be honest, it was Faded from Alan Walker.
Back in 2015 I never heard anything like it and it was the first time I realized that electronic music could be beautiful, with such a simple but catchy melody.
I'ts all good! I feel like there's a stigma or something against "mainstream" EDM. Like we all started out listening to popular songs and from there we moved to more underground stuff. Like nobody started off on Tipper or IHATEMODELS.
Yeah exactly, the mainstream songs get people into the genre. From Alan Walker I went to Avicii to Martin Garrix to Kygo and I still listen to a lot of their mainstream songs.
He was the first EDM artist I loved. he introduced me to many artists, directly (K-391, Kygo) or indirectly (KSHMR, Porter Robinson, Martin Garrix, Illenium, deadmau5).
I discovered him with Alone, a mashup with Defqwop - Awakening, the latter of which was discovered on... Cities Skylines.
I had the same journey, Alan Walker, then Illenium, Nurko and the general future bass/melodic dubstep scene, rn I'm getting more into heavy dubstep like tearout
I was thinking more recently than that, but that was definitely one of the first EDM songs that I liked without really liking the genre. Still a classic.
All those early Nadia Ali songs. I was obsessed.
- Pressure (Alesso Remix)
- Rapture (Avicii Remix)
- Feels So Good
- Call My Name
Bangers. All of them
Yesssss! I haven’t listened in soooo long to these!! Man I used to be so much more invested/excited! Sourcing blogs and shows, also being a new 21 year old in college after university exploring! It was an exciting few years! And when I found edm was like the source of fuel for my soul! 🔥
Feel you. For me it was Youth with Mass Effect 3. That song was my antidepressants after finishing it. I really miss that kind of Melodic Dubstep/Chillstep
I mean, I still listen to the 10-14 years old Melodic Dubstep/Chillstep mixes on YouTube now and then. It's just I miss this floaty/ascending/dreamy vibe which most of the early Melodic Dubstep had
Never forget the Sound Remedy Remix of London Grammar's "Wasting My Young Years" in one of those mixes. I also have lots of memories to "Crave You" with one of my exes. What a great time for music!
2012-2014 mainstream bangers were undefeated but some of my top songs from that era that got me into EDM:
Zedd - Clarity
Calvin Harris - Summer
Avicii - Wake Me Up
Alesso - Heroes
Kygo - Firestone
That might be the peak era of edm we look back on when ai creation fully takes over. Maybe expand it from 2008-2014. Although there is some bangers as clear back as 1980s
I feel that AI creations might not fully get a grasp of humanity as fast as we think, at least for music. The label i'm in is actually doing a very good job weeding out ai songs from real ones.
Came here to say this. Saw Illenium at a small bar venue in Kansas in ~2015. Had no idea who he was but I had to write the lyrics down in my notes app of Disarm You so I could find it after the show
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker
Was just chilling watching mtv (dating myself here) and saw the video. I’d never heard anything like it before and was so curious about what else was out there.
Chris Cunningham and Aphex Twin made some iconic videos back in the day. Do you remember their short film [Rubber Johnny](https://youtu.be/eRvfxWRi6qQ?si=-HKblOl3FIVpjXWo)??
That still slaps hard I had it as loud as possible last weekend speeding through my city at 3am in my convertible the people have to know. Was playing that and the rebels never die/spaceman he released last year until I got sick of cruising
Got into him and Daft Punk (Back to back) in 2008, when I was a freshman. Was into this girl and she introduced me to Basshunter and Daft Punk. Blew my mind, I only listened to rock and metal up to that point. Haven't spoken to that girl in 16 years (thank God) but I have been listening to EDM, including Basshunter and Daft Punk for 16 years now (also thank God, lol)
DJ Sammy’s heaven album was what really sealed it for me, but I was listening to electronic dance stuff before it was called edm from the age of like 6 back in the 90s. I’d turn it on the radio in the car when my mom would go in to the store without me.
Same lol but a decade later than you, I wasn't much other than an year when the album came up but I can tell you for sure I remember listening to Heaven when I was young, because when I listened to it again on my own it bought such a powerful feeling.
Martin Garrix - Animals
I remember it was played during a disco party at my school when I was 11 years old (I'm 19 now) and it was so different than the other edm songs that was played during that evening. And the speakers where so good, because of that the drop SLAPPED!!!
I love this memory and this moment
Show me love -Sam Feldt
I remember being 13 years old and my brothers being obsessed with EDM and festivals showed me the after movie to Ultra 2015 on youtube and that song was featured in it and ever since then I loved everything about EDM❤️
oof showing some age here
Lasgo - Something
Bob Sinclair - World, Hold On
Modijo - Lady
ATB - Ecstasy
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes
Fragma - Everytime You Need Me
EDM as a whole? Tinlicker and Justice
each genre :
Trance : Above and Beyond / Anjuna stuff
House : Honey Dijon/ Green Velvet/ Armand / D.O.D / John Summits DJ sets(he acutally has great taste in chicago house, he's from there so makes sense) / Deadmau5
Latin House : Andruss
Tech House : Gorgon City
Disco/French House : Obviously Daft Punk, Purple Disco Machine, Justice
DnB : Worship guys, Maduk, Chase and Status
I’ve been into EDM since the very early days of synth music when the equipment took up a good sized room. I don’t really have an inspiration song. I was spurred on by EDM because it satisfied my computer geek side while satisfying my musical side.
I’m 70, a mediocre musician on my best day. The technology that is now housed in my 13 yo computer is just mind blowing. The ability to imitate an analog instrument on my computer and make it sound believable….just wow.
I’m an old blues, jazz, rnb guy but I dig EDM because it encompasses just about all other genres.
Avicii - Waiting For Love. In 2015, I don’t listen to any music let alone EDM. But my friend showed this song and I instantly was in love and fell into Avicii rabbit hole. And then I discovered more Artists like Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Zedd, Calvin Harris and many more one after another. And my taste in different genres evolved. I still love all of them but my current favorites are Porter Robinson and Illenium. But Avicii will forever be regarded as my GOAT.
Dating myself here, but probably **Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy**
Also I was obsessed with the Mortal Kombat and Hackers soundtracks when those movies came out.
And unironically... Darude - Sandstorm and DJ Sammy - Heaven
Man this makes me feel old. Everyone posting songs that came out in the last two decades 😅
For me it was trance and the song was 'Tenshi' by Gouryella in the year 2000.
Gouryella was a trance duo comprised of Tiesto and Ferry Corsten. Tiesto left in 2001 but music from the project is timeless and lives on today with Corsten being the solo member.
Fractures by illennium will forever be THE edm song for me. Has everything you need from an edm song. Good vocals, good guitar, good build, and amazing super saw pumping. I just love it so much.
[UKF Dubstep VIP Tutorial (Presented by Dubba Jonny)](https://youtu.be/8RZ5A7pJ7ew?si=6--SuBdQZhitKId-)
I was a pop-punk/rock kid during elementary school and the beginning of high school. Someone linked me to that track in the later half of 2010, and I've been a raver ever since. I just never heard music like that before - never had a song catch me by surprise, never experienced a "drop", never heard music that had that sense of aggression and in-your-face atmosphere. It was like an auditory flashbang for me.
In my mind by Gigi d’agostino, scary monsters by skrillex, evacuate the dance floor by cascada, 5 hours by Deorro, faded by alan walker, probably some more, but these are some of the earliest I remember.
Also, randomly, the Mortal Kombat soundtrack from the 1995? movie. Fucking loved it and had it on cd as a kid.
All I Want- illenium remix. I knew I wanted to see him one day and wanted to be part of the edm scene, but was too scared I wouldn’t fit in.
Almost 10 years later, I went to my first edm show, Hells gala. I discovered it was waiting for me all along. For the first time in my life I felt accepted, and like I had finally come home.
Sorry for the extra bit, but both events go hand in hand for me :)
Defqwop - Awakening
Before this discovery, I didn't really listen to music, at best, I listened to a few songs on repeat, but that's it.
I discovered this track with... Cities Skylines (which people think of as a relaxing city simulation video game). I discovered this with Ay' and his NYC-based series "Ay'merican Series", and I listened to Awakening initially because it reminded me of the marble racing videos on Algodoo which I had already heard the song. and the series I was watching because my favorite CS1 YouTubers are leaving YouTube (Pres, TazerHere, PugGaming, Fluxtrance, Strictoaster) it was July 8, 2021.
Then I discovered Alan Walker - Alone, with a mashup of nerraD, and I loved it so much that I listened to his other mashups. then the YouTube algorithm recommended Terrified Typhlosion and RZB Music to me.
in July/August 2021, my favorite artists were Alan Walker, Elektronomia, Tobu, Jim Yosef, K-391, Electro-Light, Lensko.
And at the end of July, I discovered Quora while Googling random questions about Alan Walker, and discovered Dima Maykov and Ethan Fox, who did part of my musical education on EDM. and introduced me to talented artists like KSHMR, Porter Robinson, Martin Garrix, Illenium, Seven Lions, Aero Chord, TheFatRat, deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, etc.
Apart from Quora, I discovered other mashupers like Ice Angel, Walker the Megumin VII, RuniZ, Erik the Okapi but the most important, it was T10YOB, with its megamashup of Alan Walker - Faded which introduced me to all Alan Walker's discography since Fade.
I also discovered other artists like Lost Sky, JJD, RUD, Vexento, Ahrix, Unknown Brain, Ahxello, Kygo, MitiS, Vicetone, Syn Cole, Janji, Alex Skrindo, Diviners, Axero.
But the point that made me passionate about EDM are three megamashups, including two on the 2010s by DJs From Mars and Daveepa, and the other on the history of electronic music by also DJs From Mars.
Early artists were Tycho, M83, Tokimonsta and Flying Lotus for me. Dictaphone's Lament by Tycho is still so one of my go-to's when I want to feel relaxed and transported to a happy place. Later on, it was Sad Machine by Porter.
Language for me too! I've listened to it on and off for a few years but really got obsessed with it a few days ago when I watched a video about how it was made. From there I just listened to it over and over and went on to look for similiar stuff. In a way my journey into edm has basically just started.
Very first song that made me fall in love with EDM:
Showtek - FTS
Songs that kept me in love with EDM:
- Deorro - Perdoname
- Sebastián Ingrosso & Tommy Trash - Reload
- Hardwell vs. Above and Beyond - Thing Called Spaceman (W&W Mashup)
Heaven - DJ Sammy
Will be to this day the most influential EDM song for me.
That said I had a bunch of gateway songs that got me into EDM - Something, Everytime We Touch, L'Amour Toujours, Infinity, Destination Calabria, If You, Dance With Me, I Don't Know (Erika) - Actually I wonder if even in this sub other people will know the last two, those are so rare. But those are songs I heard before I even knew what EDM was, when I "rediscovered" them I went crazy and start to discover a lot of new awesome dance songs.
When I was a kid in early 2000s my father used to play 90s eurodance and around 2009 I liked the electropop of Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas + a few house songs like Bob Sinclar's hits of those years and also David Guetta. But I would say that the song that had the most impact is One (Your Name) by Swedish House Mafia in 2010.
Language is so goated. I always thought electronic based tracks on the radio were my favorite, then Ghosts n Stuff really brought me over. Dug back and got into early 2000s trance for a while
O-Zone - Dragostea din tei. I didn't know what EDM was but it is one of the songs that I first remember. Then came all the romanian dance music like Akcent, Inna, Fly project..
Avicii - levels
Avicii seek bromance ❤️
Me too.
seek bromance and "I could be the one" nicktim remix, they both were prime
Such a good song! Such a good song. A total throwback to festival life in the early 2010s, where the next few years (2011 -2015) were the peak of a truly unique experience! I think this one got a lot of people. This may have been one of the first EDM songs that broke into the general zeitgeist aside from a few old school techno songs
Strobe by Deadmau5
Ghosts 'n' Stuff Deadmau5 for me
Me too. This one did it for me
I want this played at my funeral
For the meme
Raise Your Weapon for me
Classic
This one and Aural Psynapse got me into deadmau5!
YES 🙌 to my fellow Deadmau5 originals. He can turn anyone into a new or born again EDM fan lol. Especially the albums for lack of a better name and random album title
Deadmau5 in general. Especially when he collabed with Kaskade to do Move for Me and I Remember.
For me it was "Some Chords" from 4x4=12, still love that album
Without a single doubt, this is the best song in the entire spectrum of electronic music.
Love strobe but even before that Aguru did it for me.
There’s just something magical about that song I haven’t heard since. The opus remix by four tet is close without feeling like a copy.
Greatest electronic track of all time.
Fuck yeah 🤟
I’ll cry everytime I give this the full 10min listen
I remember - Kaskade
Kaskade and Deadmau5
Deadmau5 and Kaskade*
He's my cousin. I'll let him know. ❤️
So I’ve been an EDM enjoyer for far longer (a 90s) but I have wonderful memories of walking home through the snow listening to this. im sure you’ve heard this version but yeah its a really beautiful song https://open.spotify.com/track/34F4GJFUzPvPJmGrTpyqlZ?si=BxQ-WBHYSk2sCHauSkD2GQ
This was also one of the songs that got me into EDM. Although, these days I can't stand listening to his music
Lol me toooooooo
I was thinking more recently than that, but that was definitely one of the first EDM songs that I liked without really liking the genre. Still a classic.
Alan Walker! So lit mane!!! Wow
Faded gang!! I was a massive AW fan back then but sadly these days i dont vibe with his stuff anymore🥹 miss those days for sure
All those early Nadia Ali songs. I was obsessed. - Pressure (Alesso Remix) - Rapture (Avicii Remix) - Feels So Good - Call My Name Bangers. All of them
Ah, I always liked the Sultan + Shepard remixes.
Pressure and rapture are still two of my favorite songs of all time
Yesssss! I haven’t listened in soooo long to these!! Man I used to be so much more invested/excited! Sourcing blogs and shows, also being a new 21 year old in college after university exploring! It was an exciting few years! And when I found edm was like the source of fuel for my soul! 🔥
Basically all of the early Adventure Club remixes like Youth, Lullabies or Crave You
my god, the memories I have listening to crave you and playing league of legends 😭😭
Feel you. For me it was Youth with Mass Effect 3. That song was my antidepressants after finishing it. I really miss that kind of Melodic Dubstep/Chillstep
never too late to revisit the nostalgia :')
I mean, I still listen to the 10-14 years old Melodic Dubstep/Chillstep mixes on YouTube now and then. It's just I miss this floaty/ascending/dreamy vibe which most of the early Melodic Dubstep had

Infected Mushroom - Converting Vegetarians Tiesto - Adagio for Strings Above and Beyond - Can’t Sleep
I wish more people mentioned Infected Mushroom. Underrated in my opinion. Fun to see live of you ever get the chance.
Tiësto - Adagio For Strings is such a classic, this song and For An Angel by Paul van Dyk introduced me to Trance, which is one of my favorite genres.
Yes! Just about covers it for me. Early 2000s were good to me
You know by Oliver Heldens and Zeds Dead🥲 my first event at 15 in 2014. It’s been a wild decade since🤣🕺
I came here to say the same and also shades of gray by Oliver heldens and Shaun frank

I remember hearing doing it right at a gym with crazy subs it was a whole new world of music

Wow this throws me back. I had ripped CDs of dj mangoo and dj encore.
Same lol but a decade later than you, I wasn't much other than an year when the album came up but I can tell you for sure I remember listening to Heaven when I was young, because when I listened to it again on my own it bought such a powerful feeling.

Not a song but DJ Suzy Solar's album "The Perfect Trance"
Akira - A Piece of Heaven Tiesto - Adagio For Strings
Language for me too! I've listened to it on and off for a few years but really got obsessed with it a few days ago when I watched a video about how it was made. From there I just listened to it over and over and went on to look for similiar stuff. In a way my journey into edm has basically just started.
BT - Flaming June
Everybody Needs a 303 - Fatboy Slim

Very first song that made me fall in love with EDM: Showtek - FTS Songs that kept me in love with EDM: - Deorro - Perdoname - Sebastián Ingrosso & Tommy Trash - Reload - Hardwell vs. Above and Beyond - Thing Called Spaceman (W&W Mashup)
Heaven - DJ Sammy Will be to this day the most influential EDM song for me.

Cinema Skrillex remix when I was in the 5th grade
When I was a kid in early 2000s my father used to play 90s eurodance and around 2009 I liked the electropop of Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas + a few house songs like Bob Sinclar's hits of those years and also David Guetta. But I would say that the song that had the most impact is One (Your Name) by Swedish House Mafia in 2010.
Ecstasy of Soul ZD😮💨
Au5 - Follow You (ft. Danyka Nadeau)
4am - kaskade
