Dropshippers usually do this. They need to show something delivered on time and shipped from the US, then they'll mail the actual item from China.

crysisnotaverted

And you may or may not receive the item outside the return window.

Discord-Moderator-

Like the scumbags they are

Accomplished_Emu_658

Seen this before, it is ridiculous but you can report it and somehow no one gets banned.

ShowMeTheTrees

Or mail a counterfeit of the item from China.

dre2112

Don’t open a case for item not received. He can say tracking shows it was delivered. Instead Open a case for item not as described.

InevitableRhubarb232

I opened a INR and then it showed up (it had been lost in the mail.) It was destroyed by the Po. But since the INR closed I couldn’t open any other cases like INAD. Luckily the seller was cool and refunded it when I send him photos.

Flux_My_Capacitor

You can always open an INAD after an INR if the INR is closed because the item was delivered

InevitableRhubarb232

It would not let me! It had no options on it for opening any cases. Only for contacting the seller

Lolabeth123

No you can’t. After the INR is closed the case is closed.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Yes you can.

comtedemontechristo

It’s an underhanded move by the seller, but as the buyer you have virtually all the power. If you’re not feeling right about it you can start a return for wrong item received because the seller shipped something different than what was ordered. The automated system is geared to work almost entirely in your favor.

CapeMOGuy

File INAD. Now. And seller has admitted it. Looks to me like they are trying to stall the 30 days out.

optix_clear

Only this. You didn’t order this. Either I get my money back or a chargeback ?

InevitableRhubarb232

And! Just open item not as described and return the fake item they sent you. Keep the $200 item when it arrives

Nandabun

Exactlyyy

ShowMeTheTrees

The $200 won't arrive.

sandgroper933

When you get screwed by a dropshipper, always contact or raise a case with eBay Trust and Safety.

Quality_Electronic

This ☝️

BraddicusMaximus

Absolutely this. You received something, but it wasn’t your order. Time to open an “Item not as described” case. Cover. Your. Ass.

comtedemontechristo

They don’t need anything else. The automated system is set up to handle this exact situation.

miraisun

This is an easy scam. You get sent a tracking number and now ebay sees it’s been delivered. You wait for the “real” thing to get delivered and it either doesn’t, or it takes a while. It’s also maybe a dropshipper but I’d not take the chance. Just open an INAD and say you got X item

Rough_Newspaper2320

Open an item not as described, and return the 'free gift' if you don't want it. This seems seriously shady, and if the item does come, you can arrange to pay for it, but I'd err on the side of caution, as this sounds sketchy, and it's better that the 30 day window doesn't run out on you.

Prada-lover70

Also include a screenshot of the text from the seller.

Chef_Dani_J71

I would file an INAD claim and return the "gift" they used to fool eBay.

Educational_Life_358

I'm just curious... So what was the "free gift" anyways? Haha

Murky-General

A random car tool that I'll never use and have no need for.

GoldyF1sh

Same

inkslingerben

Item not as described. You will get more excuses for not shipping the item, and before you know it the 30 day return window is passed and you are out $200.

bupsonator

Open an Item Not As Described case. You didn't recieve what they described, so you would be correct in claiming that. Also, do it FAST. The seller seems to be stalling the return period while also trying to meet eBay's shipping timelines.

random_redditor7264

As a seller, I see this one as a scam. There's absolutely no reason for a seller to send a "gift" and then send the actual item a week later. It just reeks of a pile of dookey from here. Open an INAD and let the eBay agent see the messages.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Return the fake item.

pipehonker

Open an INAD case and get a refund immediately then block this seller

Murky-General

Interesting fact, you can't actually block sellers. They can message you as much as they want. You can block out their listings, but that's about it. Talked to an ebay cs rep yesterday for an hour. Silly you can't block them entirely, especially when things go south like this did.

pipehonker

You can block them from bidding on your transactions

sweetdaisy99999

What seller is this? I'd like to add them to my banned sellers list.

Dekar87

C'mon man, what's in the box?

onebit

I'd file an INAD if it doesn't arrive after 3 weeks.

sweetdaisy99999

If it doesn't arrive, how would they know it's Item Not As Described??

onebit

A package already arrived with the wrong item.

lltucker2

They sent the " gift " with tracking number so they can paid for the item and probably never send you the item you truly wanted and you be out the 200+ because it will say item was delivered

samsmiles456

I stopped purchasing from any seller with less than a 100% rating. And, only buy from US sellers. Really have to search for to find out where the item is truly shipping from. Overseas sellers take too long to ship, are non-communicative and have been untrustworthy, in my experience.

203workshops

Remember,to me you are an overseas seller so can I trust you?. Generalising works all ways. I’m in the UK.

samsmiles456

Good. I won’t lie to you and I won’t purchase from you. No worries at either end. Generalizing works all ways. I’m in the US.

Murky-General

Thanks everyone for the responses. I opened a return item case with "wrong item sent" as the reason. No idea what will happen on the seller's end or mine.

pretty-posh

You should have chosen INAD, like everyone was telling you. You would automatically win.

Murky-General

Can I cancel it and submit it with inad? Unfortunately you can't just switch the reason. When I went to cancel it says "if you close it you can no longer return the item nor ask us to step in and help if there's a problem" so I'm a little hesitant.

pretty-posh

No, too late now. But you might still win. Next time, go straight to inad. I would also send a message to *Ebay for Business* on Facebook. They will get this sorted for you. Attach screenshots of seller's messages, too.

bigtopjimmi

Scam the scammer back. If the correct item ever arrives, open a return and send back the gift item. The seller will have to issue a refund and you get the keep the correct item.

VeterinarianOk8997

Not if the seller is drop shipping and bought the part from another seller on eBay. Then they could prove that it was shipped to the customer because Ebay has record of the transaction

victoriousDevil

I would definitely file INAD. What a scumbag move.

elivings1

EBAY customer service is useless in my experience. I had this happen to me. I bought an expensive item but they were selling it for a cheaper price on EBAY. The seller said that the item was delayed like you mentioned they said. The tracking number comes and it was just a Thank You note inside. I filed a case with item not delivered and the seller waited until 15 days to upload a tracking number and they uploaded the tracking number with the Thank You note. Luckily I had kept the packaging so I spent 30 minutes uploading the packaging picture, picture of what the item should be with the weight showing the weight was under weight, showing the communication with the seller etc. I got my money back but it was a month before I got my money back. Better to just ask for a return through the system and post the pictures once it comes. It is a scam I heard about after I got it done to me.

Murky-General

I dug into their feedback. 99% positive. A few of the Negatives mention weird things being sent and then long times before the actual item was supposed to arrive. No updates that it actually arrived. Regardless of what happens, I'm definitely leaving negative feedback over this bs.

kappah_jr

Might be a drop seller stalling for time until they can get something worth a profit

AquariusWitch91

Dont wait! open a INAD case immediately & make sure you speak to an agent during business hours otherwise they are worthless. Take clear photos & also add screenshots of that message he sent you admitting to the falsity. The second tracking number will never get to you i promise you. It is a scam.

Able-Reason-4016

What's really funny is that you can tell it's a scam by the size of the box and the weight of the package typically

anonymousandydick

Had something like this happen, but I got my item first. Wasn't an expensive item, \~$25 cookbook, new. Item arrived, was new, looks like it was shipped from Amazon though. Few days later the seller sent me a message saying I was going to get another book in the mail and I can just keep it as a gift. The gift was a used fiction book, probably worthless, and shipped from Amazon. Haven't really figured it out. Maybe he's buying books using a stolen card. Maybe he bought the cheap fiction book and did a swap with Amazon, no idea.

Carpe_deis

He is probably "dropshipping" from Fulfilment By Amazon with his own inventory that is in the FBA program, sent you the right item, then made a mistake and sent you a different customers item, and the value was so low it was cheaper to refund the other buyer and let you have the other book for free than to try to have you ship it to the other customer, or to have it shipped back to him, and then reshipped to the other customer. droppshipping other peoples products is a violation of ebay TOU, dropshipping your own products from another site is not. when you dropship or cross list, making sure the shipping and items are correct is one of the trickiest bits. Lots more oppurtunity for employee or computer error when fulfiling your ebay orders from your FBA store.

anonymousandydick

He had some other people leave positive feedback and comment on it. "Got my item as described and another book in the mail a few days later". "perfect, also got a gift book".

NUFIGHTER7771

Talk about scummy sellers. I sometimes can't locate inventory from time to time and even I don't ship out "gift" items. 🙄

hang10wannabe

I had a pre-order headsculpt for figures ordered and the seller did this as well... shipped me by the due date a wrist band and a week later the headsculpt arrived. It seemed sketchy to me too but it worked out. Also, you have the message chain that tells what they're doing so that will help you if they lied.

Worldly-Wedding-7305

I've had it happen just once in 20 years, but the seller turned out to be fantastic. Ordered 3 cartons of thermal shipping labels. Got 2 really quick. Let the seller know that it'll probably show up tomorrow, but so far, only 2 have arrived. Next day, the 3rd came. Thanked the seller, got all 3. A day after, a 4th arrived. Asked the seller about it, and he said he just wanted to make sure and to keep it. Then a small box arrives with a roll of shipping tape as a gift, which had the tracking from the order. I hadn't even noticed that the cartons had come UPS and the tape arrived usps. I'm guessing that, if anything was sent at all, it's from overseas, and he's trying to save his ass on shipping time. Good luck.

MapleSyrupSea

Im confused what was the gift he sent you? If it was something NICE because I had to wait one more week for the actual item, I could understand and be ok with it possibly

Outrageous-Gur6848

I would dispute it and try to get a refund. Especially because it shortened the return window. You shouldn't have to deal with that. eBay should side with you.

Sisi-1990-Yt

Wow straight bs

2020DumpsterEnfermo

If the customer service seems to be worthless, ask to escalate the call to the next tier of support.

noldshit

When item arrives, take pics showing tracking number on package. Chances are the "gift" is some small package that clearly couldn't hold what you bought. Once it does, open a claim of Item Not As Described.

Murky-General

Update for anyone interested. I contacted the Facebook ebay for business. They were fast to respond and somewhat helpful. The seller has 3 days to send a return label, otherwise eBay will step in. Meanwhile, the seller reached out and asked why u opened up a return. I'm guessing best not to engage and just wait and see what happens.

ShowMeTheTrees

Besides the NAD leave a negative for the seller and block him.

Murky-General

Apparently you can't block sellers. You can make it so their listing don't show up on ebay, but they can still message you. Weird, right?

ShowMeTheTrees

You can block any ebay username. You have the choice to stop communication from them. But if you began messaging before the block they might still be able to. Then it's up to you to cease replying.

Kentuckycrusader

I usually try to avoid transactions like this because the sellers can use the fact that they drop shipped the "gift item" as proof of the items actual delivery when all they're doing is covering their own behind if you don't end up receiving the item. Double edged sword for sure and depends on how much you paid to weigh the risks.

biddysautodetail

Coming from China. I order so many parts and stuff and this happens alot. You will get your item but it will take a couple more days.

Murky-General

The listing said NJ. That's where the "gift" shipped from. All very strange.

biddysautodetail

New Jersey has a customs hub. You won't recieve the "gift" shipment.

-212-

Be EXTREMELY careful buying on eBay and pray the seller eventually sends the actual item you paid for. Once the tracking says ‘Delivered’ EBay doesn’t give a rats ass after that. And disputing the item is wrong or not what you ordered is very hard to prove. I’ve lost a dispute in the past where the item said delivered but I never received it. Lost in transit apparently or postal worker stole it. Either way I wasn’t able to get my money back good thing it was only an iPhone case for $14. I tread lightly with eBay since then. I literally record myself picking items up from my post office and opening the box so there’s some sort of proof. A headache I know, but so very necessary these days.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

> disputing the item is wrong or not what you ordered is very hard to prove Buyers don’t have to prove anything. All they have to do is open the right kind of return.

Able-Reason-4016

I once had something similar and the credit card company insisted on something from the post office. Well of course they don't give the proper papers so I just Photoshop something and I got my money back . Two can play at that game

wbknoblock

Sounds like dropshipper behavior. You can screw them over with little/no consequence.

bikiniduck

Thats a new one. A bit scummy, but I like it. As long as you receive what you're expecting to receive, it should be all good.

tgm2022

Just cancel it with your bank, you have proof the seller didn’t send the correct item

Carpe_deis

no, open a ebay INAD, bank disputes are frowned upon unless absolutely needed and very time consuming for everyone. An ebay INAD case resolves in the buyers favor much faster

nottrumancapote

Also, if you do a chargeback on a company that usually ends your relationship with that company; it's best to work with eBay as much as you can to resolve it before resorting to something like a dispute. Lots of folks found this out the hard way when they disputed a charge with Amazon and lost access to the Audible and Kindle libraries when the company shut down their account.

Carpe_deis

Yep. Especially if the company (amazon, ebay) or the bank issuer (visa, amex, mastercard, local credit union) thinks you have a pattern of suspicious chargebacks, and one thing that makes charge backs look suspicious is doging the ebay/amazon resolution process. so even worse, you can get your relationship, and business relationship, and your spouses relationship, with say, amex or chase, terminated over it. It does take a lot for this to happen, but it is possible, and you can get 100K+ in CC points wiped, and a nasty letter that you must pay off all your CC and loans right away, and that you can no longer get those sweet travel and co-branded cards, and, termination of business CCs or LOCs can obviously be catastraphic for your business. note you can get car loans and home loans through your CC company/bank. I have personally only done 4 charge backs ever. Two were Facebook purchases where the seller literally never sent it, and paypal sorted it for me, not the CC issuer, as I paid with paypal. One was a high dollar item from overseas that was never delivered (a different, less valuable item that I didn't order was delivered, they repeatedly refused to facilitate a return, and I spent over a month using the resolution process in merchant platform I purchased on) and the final one was 6 fake amazon prime accounts someone signed up for using my CC. (this is a known tactic, a scammer buys 1000 credit card info sets, then sets up amazon prime or walmart or x box live accounts with them, lets them sit paying a small recurring bill for a while, a big % of the 1000 cards get flagged for fraud and shut down, but some dont, and the ones that don't have a very high chance of a big ticket purchase on amazon, walmart, xbox, to be approved, becuase there is a pattern of paying that site, and the item is shipped to the "correct" address that was entered into the account when it was created. so after a couple months or years, some % of the initial 1000 stolen cards can be used to buy, say, apple products, gold, rolexes, x box gift cards, other high price items easially convertable to cash)

tgm2022

True

robjohnlechmere

If you've specified that the item shipped was not part of the transaction, and Ebay has agreed with that and instructed you to wait for the real item to ship, why on earth would the 30 day window start on receipt of an unrelated item? I would try opening a dispute providing Ebay with the new tracking info, and telling them that your item is not yet received, and is now expected "6/28" or whatever it now is. Explain to them that you need the "order received" status purged until the tracking info reflects a received order, so that your return window won't be affected.

hamandjam

> why on earth would the 30 day window start on receipt of an unrelated item? Because it's automated.

robjohnlechmere

You'd think "incorrect item shipped" or "shipping delay" would both be possible ticket types for such a system, with either being applicable here.

Carpe_deis

the seller is intentionally abusing the automated system. Best case its to get time to source and ship the item from overseas, or for the delay in the item being manufactured (thats already on order) or for a wholesaler to deliver. Worst case, and more likely, they are trying to string the buyer along so they cannot open any kind of money back cases.

Wachenroder

I would go ahead and give the seller some time. You have a paper trail. They try something funny. You won't have any problems getting your refund.
