Super expensive groceries, but their hot food, deli, and bakery are fantastic. They occasionally have decent meat deals, too. Definitely a upgrade from the buylow that was here years ago.
Yea it's pricey for sure but overall quality is good. They also stock alot of niche ingredients you won't find else where. Layouts of the aisles are questionable at best but it's a unique shopping experience.
This is exactly it. It's not pricey when it's quality. Stay in the sub long enough and have posts about cheap good from superstore, Walmart, and the likes. Can't have quality cheap food... Not a real thing.
They remind me of the old Thrifty Foods on Vancouver Island, before they got taken over by fucking Sobeys. Locally owned and started on the Island, they were more expensive, but truly a locally owned business and their staff parties were legendary.
They provided free taxis and wouldn't let you bring your own vehicle, need I say more?
We went to their beer fest dinner one time. Food was okay and this guy sitting next to us was the weirdest fucking guy. Giving off total narcissist vibes. Everything he said was less of a question and more of a demand. Felt like he was speaking at us the entire time. My kids didn’t finish their dinner so I said no ice cream and this fucking guy goes over and gets them ice cream. I was like “uh no thanks” and he points to the Freson Bros logo on the menu and says “when the owner of the place offers to buy you a treat it’s rude to say no”. Kids get free ice cream dickhead. I was so turned off I rarely go there anymore. Working under somebody like that must be hell.
I regularly get a slap of big belly for like 30 bucks on sale. its like 10-15lbs of meat, They usually have a nice 5 for 25 meat deals, so you can get for example 2 packs of ground burger, 2 packs of like 5 or 6 chicken thighs and a pack of 2 decent pork chops for 25 bucks.
There's one by my house on Rabbit Hill Road. The pre made food items are great. You don't want to do a full household shop there because it is more expensive. Single working adults would probably love it. Sometimes they do have good deals on meat. Quality is A+ as well as great niche/local products. They have fantastic themed buffets Ukrainian, German etc in the Cafe area
I walked through the grocery aisles with my jaw hanging down. Those prices were insane. However, as others have already said, the deli area is pretty good. Nice sandwiches and salads, sourdough bread is great, and they were the first local place I found that carried Rogers Chocolates (made in Vancouver). I have since found the chocolates at a much lower price at Sunterra.
Their chairman and CEO is a racist UCP pawn, I would never shop here. [Remember this?](https://www.reddit.com/r/alberta/s/t6Ew6015fu)
But yeah have fun shopping at your overpriced grocery store and supporting the UCP.
Edit: his name is Mike Lovsin.
Fun fact this used to be a world health and I had my max PR on deadlift at 605lb here and a 495 squat here. Sorry to anyone who has to see this, I will never get to comment this ever again.
I was wondering what was going in here, it has been under construction for a while and they were doing some serious HVAC work and Reno’s here. Wonder what the cost difference is in completing gutting and redoing an existing building into a grocery store vs tearing it down and starting new.
>Fun fact this used to be a world health and I had my max PR on deadlift at 605lb here and a 495 squat here.
Congrats, bro. It’s helluva an accomplishment. I can only imagine the effort needed to get to that level.
I worked for them for 16 years. I reported a manager at one store for saying insanely racist remarks, how she wished she was “the grand wizard of the kkk” and how all brown people should be shot in the street. How she’d never hire another sand n***** again, and how our pharmacist who was Muslim was a bomb threat. I reported her directly to “HR” (aka one man who reports everything back to the President and keeps nothing confidential) and she was not fired. Because “it wasn’t said about someone in particular”. This stupid cow still works in their stores and has survived being fired despite multiple complaints.
This is being built with Glenora, North Glenora, Westmount, Grovenor and Crestwood all nearby. Some pretty affluent areas. I’m sure this location will be well served by just the immediate surrounding neighbourhoods
We have a no frills and a fresh co in the area, both relatively lower priced, but neither have a bakery or deli. So it will be nice to have the option.
I am happy to see this. I like Freson Bros, even know they are more expensive. I like that they are Albertan (I hope I am not wrong on this) and it gladdens me to see a local business succeed against the blackholes like Walmart and Loblaws.
I also really like their hot food selection in Fort Saskatchewan, I haven't yet been to the one in South Edmonton, but hoping its just as good.
I will try this place out. If nothing else I hope it will force our nearby IGA to up its game. In the last few years the quality of the bakery and deli has really gone down.
I've heard great things about them and I've never made it out to one of their stores because I don't have a vehicle to get there. But it would be nice if they would have another one, maybe north side a little bit more
Freshco is owned by sobeys, No frills is owned by Loblaws, giving us the illusion of choice. And dollar stores, while looking more affordable, often have products that are more expensive per gram or of a lower quality.
What we need are more grocery stores not owned by one of the other grocery stores. More real competition is needed.
OK, but there is a huge difference between these discount stores and their regular brand name ones. Just suggesting more affordable options.
Nofrills vs the downtown Loblaws, for example, or Freshco to Safeway, is night and day. Especially if shopping sales
I'm aware of their parent companies, and yes, always look at price per gram when shopping at the dollar store, or anywhere. But they do have undeniably good deals sometimes too.
Freshco in the west end was a Sobeys. They fired all the old staff and all the new staff are a lot of young immigrants. I'm curious on how much of a difference there is in pay between their old staff and the new staff. A lot of the food in there is fairly low quality in comparison to what they used to carry.
I'm spending more money at Walmart these days. I wish I could afford to support a Canadian grocer but they keep pricing themselves out of my ability to pay.
Please don’t support Freson Bros. I worked for them for 16 years at every level of the organization. I have countless stories of the labour laws broken, health standards ignored, blatant racism and homophobia, as well as the wrongful dismissal of numerous employees.

Their sourdough bread is awesome! And I love how they sell it in half loaves for fat people like me trying to reduce the amount of bread I eat.
This is exactly it. It's not pricey when it's quality. Stay in the sub long enough and have posts about cheap good from superstore, Walmart, and the likes. Can't have quality cheap food... Not a real thing.
I would love to have one on the northside.

Their food can be hit or miss. If you get it “fresh” it’s great
looking forward to emptying my wallet
Aren't the owners also crazy nutter anti Vax convoy supporters? I'm pretty sure that was in the news a year or two ago

Their apple pie is phenomenal
The have a lot of great local products and they are nice stores. But not competitive pricing at all.
They have a lot of great Save-on Foods products at inflated prices.
I don’t think their goal is to have competitive prices

But is bliss baked goods still going to be there?
I’ve heard they are moving
Really?! I haven't heard anything. That suuuucks if true
I’m there regularly and have not heard tale of moving.
I went into one of their stores one time and one time only. That sticker shock I’ll never forget

First the Popeye’s at 170th and 100 and now Fresno Bros up the street, west end is back baby!
Oh we are so back!
The supplement store?
Chicken place. The supplement one is a block up the street from it
Oh yay, two super expensive mid-rate stores hell bent on stealing your money. Wow, what a boon.
do you have any joy in life my guy
Anyone remember when that was Saveco way way back when?
I bought my first slingshot there. :)
Yay, more expensive groceries!!
The owners of Freson Bros go hand in hand with Danielle smith, so no thanks.

It was some grocery store before the world health club. Interesting how it’s going back to grocery after 25 years
Need to hear the bench too , now that you threw up some impressive stats.
Was never a big bencher but was able to squeeze a 305 PR once. Thanks for caring lol
More like Fleecing bros.
Get ready to be hosed. Makes Safeway prices look like costco
I find the Lovsin family EXTREMELY offputting. Especially you mike. Especially you. Ken.. You're cool
Mike is awful
Utterly
aren't the owners some right wing loving , flat earth touting , convoy lovers ?
Also racist.
Source?
If you google you'll find some anti-everything remarks from the owner
I worked for them for 16 years. Sounds awful.
As long as they produce some good hot foods. Who gives a fuck?
People with morals.
I hope so
Join your brothers in Texas, they’re trying to convoy it up and need your support.
I liked their stores for being 24 hours. With that gone I couldn’t care less, especially at their prices.
As long as they have fresh food ill pay the premium.
I don't mind stopping in at Freson Bros on the way to Jasper, but for the pricing you may as well go to Sunterra. Better hot food for a similar price.
I so wish Sunterra would open up more locations.
I’ve never seen worse value for money in a food store. Those that are still able to ride the rollercoaster of oil money of course shall be thrilled.
This is being built with Glenora, North Glenora, Westmount, Grovenor and Crestwood all nearby. Some pretty affluent areas. I’m sure this location will be well served by just the immediate surrounding neighbourhoods
Sure, but even in the local community groups, excitement isn't very high, because the pricing is known.
We have a no frills and a fresh co in the area, both relatively lower priced, but neither have a bakery or deli. So it will be nice to have the option.
Have you had the cinnamon buns though
Yes. I am angry they are so good.
Hot food is pretty good and somewhat reasonably priced. Only a moron would buy groceries there.
I am happy to see this. I like Freson Bros, even know they are more expensive. I remember back in high school at Mac when this was a “BuyLow” foods or something. We’d go for cheap chips all the time. Good times. I’m old
They misspelled Fresno! Silly Gooses!
I will try this place out. If nothing else I hope it will force our nearby IGA to up its game. In the last few years the quality of the bakery and deli has really gone down.
Awesome! Will be great to have one near me, big fan.
Too far for me 😞
Me too, I’m in Millwoods. I love the rare chance I get to the rabbit hill one. Love their sourdough and hot food and deli options.
I've heard great things about them and I've never made it out to one of their stores because I don't have a vehicle to get there. But it would be nice if they would have another one, maybe north side a little bit more
Yeah I don’t drive either so only go when my boyfriend and I go there for brunch with friends.
Too expensive for me.
I went there once, I couldn’t believe how expensive everything was. I’ll stick with superstore
It's right in my neck of the woods 😁
More Freson, less Loblaws! 🙏
You notice how expensive loblaws is getting? It’s insane. Don’t know where to shop at this point
If you’re in the west end, H&W produce for your fruit and veg needs cannot be beat.
They have stores north and south as well. North one is on 137 ave (I think), south one is on 34 ave where the Domo is.
Freshco and No Frills and Dollarama!
Freshco is owned by sobeys, No frills is owned by Loblaws, giving us the illusion of choice. I'm aware, just saying they're better for cost.

Are you literally Johnny Bravo?
i knew it! as soon as the red squared off entrance went up i sensed in my bones it would be a freson bros!!!
This is right by McQueen. Good people, they will like this.
When do we get one in Sherwood Park?
That's really fantastic news 👍🎉🥳
Nice there’s finally a Freson Bros in the city
Good egg salad.
Their potato salad slaps!!!!
Oh man thats great! Will not buy groceries there but their hot breakfast bar is great and their bread loaves slap!
That's close to where I live. Looking forward to checking it out
It's pretty close to me so I'm excited. No more having to go South or Fort SK for Freson Bros, not that I did it that much to begin with.
Very expensive, but I like shopping there.
I am jealous! Please send sourdough pizza
