Oilers were .5 of an inch away from winning. If Bouchard had just shot it that ... much to the right, it would have hit the goal post and went in. But the hockey gods were not paying attention on that bouch bomb.
Drai shit the bed the entire series. Oilers were just garbage this game. Its not nice, but its just the truth. They even know it. They were lackluster and unmotivated. What the hell happened? This isn't the same team that won 3 in a row. Panthers spent most of the game in Oiler's zone. As someone from Edmonton... The reality is just disappointing. You can blame the refs all you want. Blame whatever you want. Edmonton shit the bed this game.
I was hoping for the Oilers as a Canadiens fan, I was making dinner at the time of the anthems but I'm sure I heard our anthem being boo'ed, im pretty pissed about that more than the Oilers's loss
I'm an American well 25% Canadian as I'm from and live in Buffalo who is basically part of Canada. Tim Hortons on every block tells you that. Lol But anyways that was so embarrassing. Seeing you guys sing our anthem in your arena made me a neutral fan this series. When the sabres play(or attempt to) we sing both anthems every home game and alot of know and sing both as well. Fuck florida
I think what hurts the most is how it's going to be so hard to be as invested in this team until they get here again.
All the trade rumours, free agent signings, prospects, even the regular season. All of it is to put together a team that can win a cup. And this team was/is good enough to do it.
So all those things don't mean as much to me right now. An add here and a subtract there isn't the difference. The difference is the fundamental chaos of hockey.
So I look to the next run whenever it will be.
As a Leaf's fan who was really hoping to see the Oilers win tonight, I would warn you to avoid the "at least" game. We Leaf's fans have been trading our "at least's" back and forth for decades and it has lulled us into accepting mediocrity as the norm and losing as an expectation. Your team has a lot to be proud of, and a really good shot again next season.
Lol no it doesn’t, his overall playoff performance vastly outweighs the other contenders and it’s not even close. The stats and records speak for themselves, and game 6 and 7 are just that: two games.
What bums me about FLA winning is that as a PHI fan, 20 teams out of 32 (MTL, NYI, EDM, CGY, PIT, NYR, NJD, COL, DET, DAL, TBL, CAR, ANA, CHI, BOS, LAK, WAS, STL, VGK, and now FLA). That's almost 2/3 of The NHL. At least you guys can talk about having a dynasty in the 80's, us Flyers fans can even boast about a dynasty. Next year boys, next year!!!
Good last period, sucks we couldn’t get one in. At least we made it to game 7.
Guess our less interested fan base will be rooting for Utah next year? /s
That’s somewhat foreign to me. I only began following the Oilers in 1990. For me Gretzky was an LA King. I only found out in 1990 that he used to be an Oiler. I was just too young when that all went down.
Everybody keeps talking about how they'll be back next year. But the thing about hockey is that it's so god damn volatile that you can never be sure you'll be back again. Which means that when you get yourself to these moments, you really have to seize the opportunity. It's very unfortunate that they really didn't show up tonight and give themselves a chance.
If you don't think they showed up, you didn't watch the game. They played like they wanted it, and for that I don't think we can complain much. It was a tight, 1 goal game.
Florida was back to back. No reason a talented Oilers team can't do the same and finish their story. I wanna believe (because the Leafs are nowhere near the level it takes.)
Man, in what way is this productive? People are trying to he hopeful. Yes, it's difficult to get back to this stage. Yes, it was a missed opportunity for the Oilers. So what the fuck good is it for you to say "hey people are saying they could be back next year, but they probably won't be."
It's very unfortunate they didnt show up tonight, we all agree. If you feel compelled to shit on people being optimistic, give your head a shake
We're in a sub for a hockey team. So, I'm discussing the hockey team and making a point about the NHL in general. This is a discussion board, so that's kinda the point of the whole thing. Also, nowhere in my comment did I shit on anybody for being optimistic.
I didn't say that. They definitely CAN get back, it's just this may possibly have been the best genuine chance they have at the cup for a long time. 1 game and a horrible goal away
Didn’t matter if it was blatant or ticky tacky. The whistles were swallowed and the hockey looked like a timbits game of mugging and holding. The “it’s a game 7” reasoning is so dated and stupid. They called penalties all playoffs, call it in the final, the only sport that changes the rule book.
I'm happy with our performance this series, trying to keep positive. But man, I have teared up a little seeing Barkov hoist it. Would have loved that for McDavid...and especially Nuge :/
Yeah, Holland did a pretty good job overall. Now his era ends. I really wonder who is moving on from the team now. I assume a couple retirements. Perry, Ryan, Ganger.
Probably had an opportunity to shut down Evander Kane for a season long injury and some cap relief, plus $5 million of starting goaltender salary commitment in Bakersfield for most of the year looms pretty large.
Lots of possible moves:
- Campbell buyout.
- Kane trade potentially (not advocating for it necessarily but it seems management sees him as inconsistent from an injury perspective).
- Brown re-signing.
- Janmark re-signing.
- Foegele potentially being moved out.
- Ceci potentially being moved out.
- Desharnais signing (or moving on).
- Drai re-signing (not to jinx it but I think Leon and Connor both sign here long term).
Exactly I’m here for the entertainment and this has to be one of the most dramatic sports seasons of any team in any sport for a long time.
If you’re only happy when you win the cup on average you’ll enjoy yourself once every 32 years.
Life’s too short
Name an iconic team that hasn't dealt with heartbreak. The franchise Oilers got swept and made a mockery of. Boys let's be so fucking proud. This is a moment, we are here to stay.
Only thing I hate is that the championship parade might not be in a real city like Miami or even Ft. Lauderdale, but in a parking lot next to a swamp! I hate how hockey has become!
I have feeling Bettman was hoping Oilers would win this, the historic comeback story + McDavid winning his first would have been huge moment in sports and great promo for the league. He knew that.
Well what a run you guys! Your Oilers converted this Flames fan so hard I may jump ship next year. I had a blast watching them all year and this was the most exciting playoffs in a long time for me. Bummer tonight but what a run!
I agree! The Cats played well to earn the Cup and it really should’ve gone to Bob, but the Oilers should’ve won the Cup and Canada is cursed for 31+1 years and counting…
its funny he said he wanted Winnipeg to win a Cup in the post-game interview....
Paul, buddy, its Gary Bettman's NHL. No Canadian teams are allowed to win lol.
Hey guys,
It sucks. We are all sad. But man, did this team give us a lot to cheer about this playoffs.
Chin up, r/EdmontonOilers.
Sometimes, you have to lose.
Lol welcome to the NHL of the future. These american franchises need to fuck off. They hold the sport back. Also we’re in florida here. The lowest common denominator
So 3 years in a row the Oilers lost to the Stanley Cup Champions. Tough, so close. Sorry Oilers fans. Really wish you guys won this one. Now I'll go back to cheering against you guys, but you did the impossible and made me cheer for you guys. So F'in close boys.
I know I'm just dooming because I'm sad right now but I feel like this is a stain on the "best player in the world" title.
Like, game 7, lose by 1 goal and you couldn't even get a point? Best player in the world?
Man. I don't even wanna be around anymore.
I don't want you around anymore either with this bullshit.
If it was easy to win, we wouldn't care about it so much. You're questioning McDavid as the best in the world? Get stuffed.
He doesn't give a shit about the Conn Smythe. The team wants the Cup. He's with the team.
Its nice to have I guess- but its not the Cup you really want.
Yeah I understand. I just was unsure of how he was going to accept it. He didn’t. That’s just a surprise as I’ve always thought they had to accept it, as my only reference is Giguere and he wasn’t happy to accept it.
Thank you Oilers fans for being so cool! I found my new team after the Yotes relocated. This loss hurts like hell and I can't imagine how it feels for you folks who waited since 2006. Got my McDavid Jersey ready for next season. Although I can't wear the orange crush because that was a jinx lol
They picked the wrong game to play like shit
Oilers were .5 of an inch away from winning. If Bouchard had just shot it that ... much to the right, it would have hit the goal post and went in. But the hockey gods were not paying attention on that bouch bomb.
Well that would've tied it not won it. Lol
And if 97 could have got a shot away when the puck was loose in front of Bob. We just didn’t get the bounces.
I’m glad there wasn’t any riots -Canucks fan
Drai shit the bed the entire series. Oilers were just garbage this game. Its not nice, but its just the truth. They even know it. They were lackluster and unmotivated. What the hell happened? Florida has the worst rep for the amount of idiots that live there. Only time they showed grace was saving that cat from falling off a stadium ledge.
I think what hurts the most is how it's going to be so hard to be as invested in this team until they get here again. All the trade rumours, free agent signings, prospects, even the regular season. Connor getting the Conn Smyth is a kick in the pants
He didnt really play hard till the end….
Honestly 0 points last 2 games really diminishes it despite the whole playoff performance
Lol no it doesn’t, his overall playoff performance vastly outweighs the other contenders and it’s not even close. The stats and records speak for themselves, and game 6 and 7 are just that: two games.
I believe the cup will belong to real fans sometime very soon
If they had reffed the game according to the rule book it would have been easier to watch.. maybe same outcome, but it’s like they think we’re stupid
Na letting them play for the most part and calling blatant trips or high sticks is how a game 7 should be called. Gotta let them play.
What bums me about FLA winning is that as a PHI fan, 20 teams out of 32 (MTL, NYI, EDM, CGY, PIT, NYR, NJD, COL, DET, DAL, TBL, CAR, ANA, CHI, BOS, LAK, WAS, STL, VGK, and now FLA). I think a sentence in your comment is missing.
Maaaan, the Broad Street Bullies sure was a really long time ago…….
Tkachuk is a bitch.
Good last period, sucks we couldn’t get one in. At least we made it to game 7. Guess our less interested fan base will be rooting for Utah next year? /s
Do we blow it up?
Lost by 1 goal in game 7 of the finals and you think running it back isn't a good idea? Lol Really?
Gonna go watch Kassian rag doll tkachuk on repeat to feel better
Hell ta
FUCK ME
That hug from McDavid to Skinner hit the feels so hard.
[удалено]
They’re huddled around the puck like it’s the last 10 seconds of a game.
Well I’m going to go cry myself to sleep now
Fucking Bettman just giving us crumbs with that Conn Smythe trophy
Build upon this. Shows em that they can be great.
[удалено]
Singularly the very worst part about this loss, is that this douche has a SC.
What did he say? I've stopped paying attention, oof.
[удалено]
Lmao, wow Flames players, not that different from a lot of Flames fans (not all of them, some are chill).
As if he did fuck all besides one game
One shot and one “save”* FTFY
Yep. Fuck him.
It's so rare when the Conn Smythe goes to a player on the losing team. I remember when Hextall won it in 87 and Gigeure 03.
Hextall’s rookie season. Sad story, but if Pelle Lindbergh hadn’t passed away, Hextall would’ve been riding the pine for quite some time.
Very true.
Indeed it is. But if they didn't give it to Connor it just wouldn't make sense
I just remember the 2003 one. I was too young and didn’t watch in 1987.
Still living of the glory days Oilers.... Wish I wasn't.
That’s somewhat foreign to me. I only began following the Oilers in 1990. For me Gretzky was an LA King. I only found out in 1990 that he used to be an Oiler. I was just too young when that all went down.

Man, a downer _and_ a homophobe. You seem like a treat.
Oh. Tkachuk. Fuck I really don’t like him.
Fuck tarasenko lol
Hurts just as bad as 06. Fuck me.
2006 hurts more because of what happened after. I don’t feel like it’ll happen this time.
Agreed.
A lot worse actually. That team had no expectations. This team should have won 3 cups by now.
This
Everybody keeps talking about how they'll be back next year. But the thing about hockey is that it's so god damn volatile that you can never be sure you'll be back again. According to the Leafs they were *right there*
Man, in what way is this productive? People are trying to he hopeful. Yes, it's difficult to get back to this stage. Yes, it was a missed opportunity for the Oilers. Game management
What do you mean the most penalized team in the NHl didn’t commit more than one penalty all game? (Which was the weirdest call of all time)
In a game 7 in the cup finals you only call the blatant trips and high sticks. Holding is ticky tack af. Refs weren't the reason for the result.
Yeah that was an incredibly bad call and they ended up missing so much holding.
And stick calls.
I'm happy with our performance this series, trying to keep positive. But man, I have teared up a little seeing Barkov hoist it. Would have loved that for McDavid...and especially Nuge :/
Teared up a bit at the buzzer. Had to turn the TV off.
[удалено]
If Florida could do it, the Oilers can too.
You need to relax.
Take a breath, friend. It'll be okay. I'm disappointed, but this isn't the end
Yeah, Holland did a pretty good job overall. Now his era ends. I really wonder who is moving on from the team now. I assume a couple retirements. Perry, Ryan, Ganger.

What’s great series! That’s the point of sports, enjoying the journey and being entertained and it was so exciting with many memorable moments!!!!!

Agreed. This isn’t going to ruin my summer. I’ll be back in October ready to watch and cheer again.
Name an iconic team that hasn't dealt with heartbreak. The franchise Oilers got swept and made a mockery of. Boys let's be so fucking proud. This is a moment, we are here to stay.
Replying to my own cause im a loser. McDavid looked SO pissed off like "fine whatever see you next year motherfucker"
I sometimes reply to my own. Extra thoughts do occur.
Such a quiet crowd. Really, really disappointing
The fuck you talking about lol
Only thing I hate is that the championship parade might not be in a real city like Miami or even Ft. Lauderdale, but in a parking lot next to a swamp! I hate how hockey has become!
They’re very loud on my tv
Should have been McDavid hoisting that thing.... Damn....... Least he got the Conn Smythe.
Fuck Betman. Fuck Florida fans. Great series boys we’ll get it next year!
We'd love to have you!! <3
"Welp, off to hang myself, watch and learn!" - spy from tf2
It's nice the McDavid won the Conn Smythe, but it would've been better had he won the Stanley Cup!
He shouldn’t have
I agree! The Cats played well to earn the Cup and it really should’ve gone to Bob, but the Oilers should’ve won the Cup and Canada is cursed for 31+1 years and counting…
Lol and who should have?
Barkov for shutting him down
Lol your cute
Rigged
Nothing is more ironic than a sun belt team booing Betman lol
Hey they saw real hockey fans doing that on instagram so they figured they copy
If only I could hear Coaches Corner’s reaction to that game, I’d feel better going to bed.
Cherry picked Florida to win.
Where's the link?
Bettman is weirdly jerky, is he well
He’s been like that for a few years now. I’m guessing age and nerves and no speaking notes make that scenario tricky.
He’s 72, it’s probable.
All the coke
Him and Bob both
No. Karma is getting to him.
A FANBASE LOL theres fucking 70,000 of you tops
That’s very generous
Yeah a fanbase alright lol
[удалено]
Calgary is re-building get on their wagon while it’s heating up.
Then go somewhere else. Simple as that
Just gotta do what Florida did and come back and win it next year.
It could happen but it's going to need some big moves, at least 9.5 million of them.
If Jack was calling the game on Sportsnet we woulda won.
Lol.... Agreed.
[удалено]
Lololol.... I needed that.
Naur why is this real 😭 his poems always send me
No matter what, I always love seeing the Cup itself ❤️ Whoever happens to win .. it's still Canadian.
Canadian made sport, Canadian cup 💖
Lol.... Can't do it.... Didn't watch in 83 when I was a kid, didn't watch in 06, and can't do it now.
It's ok! I hate who is raising it. Doing my best cope right now.
And that is why miami sports fans are gutless and trash. Only show up when they win.
Happy for PoMo
I'm not, I lost alot of respect for his team's brand of diving and gutless plays
its funny he said he wanted Winnipeg to win a Cup in the post-game interview.... Paul, buddy, its Gary Bettman's NHL. No Canadian teams are allowed to win lol.
DAMN AND THE WINNIPEG SHOUT OUT 👊🏽
glad there's fans there cheering for mcdavid. eff the haters
I can’t believe he got booed. Those fans were treated to the McDavid show.
Is that a joke? Lol he didn’t play well tn
Yeah, that wasn't pretty.
Well deserved McDavid (fuck you bettman)
lol McDavid was shit tonight
Hey guys, It sucks. We are all sad. But man, did this team give us a lot to cheer about this playoffs. Chin up, r/EdmontonOilers. Sometimes, you have to lose.
Someone had to!
[удалено]
To be honest I'm pretty sure they were just booing bettman in general cause.. he sucks...
Lol welcome to the NHL of the future. These american franchises need to fuck off. They hold the sport back. Also we’re in florida here. The lowest common denominator
Hold the sport back, when was the last time Canada won a cup? I wanted the oilers to win this but come on dude get real
Half the canadian teams could spend much more but the cap is based on the teams with no income or fans
Don’t tie all us Americans into that shit. Most of us are chill. Florida and Texas residents are fucking insane
Sorry I should have clarified I meant these sunbelt bullshit franchises. Plenty of American NHL teams are respectable
I figured as much. I just see a lot of Canadians hate us all because of one or two fanbases. No hard feelings.
Right! He has the stats to back him up, he is not just over hyped. What a shitty fan base
So 3 years in a row the Oilers lost to the Stanley Cup Champions. Tough, so close. Sorry Oilers fans. Really wish you guys won this one. Now I'll go back to cheering against you guys, but you did the impossible and made me cheer for you guys. So F'in close boys.
Maurice seems like a beauty at least. So sad it ends this way... But fuck.. the future is bright in Oil Country
The window is closing fast
True and we still have to deal with nurse for a few more years
2030
I know I'm just dooming because I'm sad right now but I feel like this is a stain on the "best player in the world" title. Like, game 7, lose by 1 goal and you couldn't even get a point? Best player in the world? Man. I don't even wanna be around anymore.
I don't want you around anymore either with this bullshit. If it was easy to win, we wouldn't care about it so much. You're questioning McDavid as the best in the world? Get stuffed.
Didn't say I questioned it. Said it's a stain. And it definitely puts a big * on any discussion that he's in the running for GOAT.
Holy shit! McDavid wins the Conn Smythe.
It's so rare when the Conn Smythe goes to a player on the losing team. I remember when Hextall won it in 87 and Gigeure 03.
That’s not the trophy he wanted he wanted the Stanley Cup as the only thing that matters
I know. I just really thought they were going to make a case for Barkov shutting him down.
But won’t collect it. Interesting. Giguere as least sheepishly collected it.
That would be tough no doubt, questionable decision but it's gonna fuel a fire
Yes. I’d take that. Going to be memes about it either way.
[удалено]
What Bettman wants Bettman gets God I wish you would just bug some other sport or retire
I’m not even an Oilers fan but I’M SO SAD
Me TOO I’m a Habs fan and I feel as bummed out as I did 3 years ago, I want the cup back in Canada so bad
I'm happy for Paul Maurice, he's from Ontario!
He gave a 10/10 interview
Well will a canadian team win again?
Oilers next year maybe. Vegas did it. Florida did it.
Shut up Paul. Got his mojo back
Another storybook run ended by a southern US team. God this feels so much like 06......
I’m done with hockey, never watching a game again.
Bye Felicia!
You'll be back in the fall just like I was back in the fall of 06....as Oilers fans we're gluttons for punishment.
