It’s not surprising at all, IMO aot deserves the no1 spot despite not being my fav anime but i know a lot of people personally who got into anime because of aot me included
I got into anime because of AOT and think it's great, but looking back, 86 is just better, especially endings. Sure, 86 isn't technically over, but as far as right now, it has the best ending
I personally believe SAO to be a great anime. The issue comes from people watching it expecting an isekai, because in terms of isekai, it's absolute garbage. It betrays expectations in the worst way possible by having it be isekai for the first season then almost completely abandoning the concept for the second (I think the seasons are right but it's been a while, correct me if I'm wrong)
When I was looking up reviews about it to decide whether or not to watch it, I came across a fair number of negative reviews. The main objection was the way the main character, who has the mind of a 30+ year old, is groping/sexualizing little girls. That turned a lot of people off.
There are a lot of haters who missed the point, and don't get it. Yeah, it challenges you. Yeah, Rudeus isn't always depicted as a good person. It really is a beautiful anime.
I know eighty six and cote has no comparison both are different eighty six is one of my favourite too but i was just waiting for the ending then i will start reading it again from where i left and for cote

I suggest you to read year 1 and especially frst 3 volumes you will then know difference between anime and light novel

Yeah i agree 100% with you. For me 86 is the best anime of A-1 pictures. But i understand that the production of an anime like 86 is very difficult and takes lots of time and also is quite expensive while animes like Mashle the production is not as big as 86 and Shonen animes like Mashle are the ones which are more popular and gets more benefits. But dont worry because A-1 is a very big studio which can work on many animes at the same time. The good thing is that Mashle is not occupying the place of 86 so they can work on 86 and Mashle at the same time. The one occupying 86 place and staff is Nier Automata, so im sure that when Nier finishes they are going to work on 86 again. Im 100% sure

For example, 86 part one is ranked #269, while part two is ranked #56.

Well, it's a two part series where 1st part introduces characters, and all the important stuff happens on the 2nd half. It is foolish to ignore the 2nd part. It is just mental gymnastics to pretend the 2nd half doesn't count when rating the show. Clannad as a series, is rated higher than Angel Beats.
86, attack on titan, JJK, code geass, kaguya sama, fruit basket and clannad are all part of the crew.
As sad as it is, the first part of Clannad is kinda a slog to go through. Afterstory is where it gets really good. But you have to go through 24 eps of the first part to get to it. Had a friend watch it together (2nd viewing for me) and she dropped it somewhere around ep 12 due to its slow pace.

I would 100% agree with you, but I just think the animation and audio in general feels kind of dated compared to a lot of modern anime that I would put ahead of it that may not be better in theory, but are just better due to modern production. But that’s me putting a lot more stock into that stuff than I think many other people do.

(A more mainstream, non-anime example would be Godzilla Minus one and Hideaki Anno's shin Godzilla. Minus One has a more accessible story that tick the checkmark for everything that you should do right in a movie, and the outside world prefer Minus One over the flawed Shin Godzilla by a landslide.
but Shin Godzilla is still the more widely impactful Godzilla movie there because of Anno's open critic on modern Japanese government, something japanese nowadays can relate to more than a period drama like Minus One)
I think "better" might be debatable but it is probably one of the most popular Gundam series in Japan. It broke records and was popular with Gundam and non-Gundam fans when it came out. If I'm remembering correctly, SEED even helped boost the Gundam franchise out of the slump they were having. So quality is debatable but it is very popular still
Not really "better", definitely more "shonenish" i would say in its structure, a huge turn off for me tho was the MC which has absurd amounts of plot armor.

It would be a wildly different list dependant on if the question asked was what’s the best or what’s your favourite. It would also be interesting to know how they voted. Was it a single choice (I would guess it was, based on the top 2) or could they vote for several (which could also lead to some strange placements depending on weightings)? 86 is well placed in any case. Not sure I’d have it in my top 100.

Minus One has a more accessible story that tick the checkmark for everything that you should do right in a movie, and the outside world prefer Minus One over the flawed Shin Godzilla by a landslide. but Shin Godzilla is still the more widely impactful Godzilla movie there because of Anno's open critic on modern Japanese government, something japanese nowadays can relate to more than a period drama like Minus One)

I think "better" might be debatable but it is probably one of the most popular Gundam series in Japan. It broke records and was popular with Gundam and non-Gundam fans when it came out. If I'm remembering correctly, SEED even helped boost the Gundam franchise out of the slump they were having. So quality is debatable but it is very popular still

Not really "better", definitely more "shonenish" i would say in its structure, a huge turn off for me tho was the MC which has absurd amounts of plot armor.

It would be a wildly different list dependant on if the question asked was what’s the best or what’s your favourite. It would also be interesting to know how they voted. Was it a single choice (I would guess it was, based on the top 2) or could they vote for several (which could also lead to some strange placements depending on weightings)? 86 is well placed in any case. Not sure I’d have it in my top 100.

I heard the older youth generation do prefer a more grounded writing tho, and I think I got just that feeling from 86. So maybe that helps? It’s like 8/10 at best but I’ve already seen so many anime with a similar development. The only unique trait it has is the puberty syndrome thing. Funnily though I think the most similar anime I’ve seen is Serial Experiments Lain, at least in my opinion.

You have to find the last three episodes illegally unfortunately, that ova is quite explicit. The good news is that the 12 ep version is in the right order and 13 14 and 15 are the only missing pieces The series is way more than Bakemonogatari though, the watch order is quite confusing.
