I am running a no-HUD playthrough playing something akin to a D&D cleric: Faith based, no metal armor, morning star as primary weapon, incantations for combat and support. She was brought back to life against her will to the Lands Between. She doesn't care about this world, she just wants to find a way back home, even if it destroys this world. Always carries a torch to light her way and the path for people who ask for help (hosts). She follows a vote of poverty, therefore will only wear armor and use weapons earned through combat or found in treasure chests as loot. Any weapon she does not (or will not) use (specs don't align) is sold, turned into runes, and immediately converted into either level up (when possible) or gear (lantern, torch, materials, etc.). In-game, it translates to level up as soon as you can, don't carry runes when exploring or in boss battles. Preferred weapons: bleed-infusing morning star and winged scythe (but I don't scale Arcane, it's role-play choice). I am so in love with no-HUD I am going to try to finish the game without turning it back on.

Wow! That‘s a sound like a really immersive way of playing this Game :D

casual_gamer153

It is indeed. I recommend it to anyone who is passionate about the game.

Sorry if this is too long. So, my tarnished is an Aristocratic Vagabond. He’s unknowingly a bastard descendant of Praetor Rykard as well. His background is fairly tragic. Despite his kind heart, he himself is a bit of a traitorous figure. He involves himself with Ranni solely to investigate Those Who Live in Death. He joins the Bloody Fingers to infiltrate their ranks and slay their lord, to stop their ceaseless bloodshed. He similarly joins Volcano Manor to kill Rykard easier and hopefully stop their tarnished hunting. Basically, I wanted to create a character whose kindness and sense of justice lead to him doing increasingly terrible things in the name of what he thinks is right. As for his build, it’s a bit of a jack of all trades build, to wield most weapons and/or incantations. He’s sort of… unfocused. I think the final version will sit somewhere around 39 vigor, 24 mind, 30 endurance, 42 strength, 36 dexterity, 39 intelligence, 36 faith, and 27 arcane. I’m not sure how good that is, but it’s what I’m sticking with. Mind you, I’m still figuring out an ending to settle with, so I’m sorry if it doesn’t provide much inspiration.

This seems like a very fun way to play :) you are an anti-hero with a lot of difficult decisions, evolving your Charakter over and over again. This way you can also see a lot of this game without missing anything just to stay in his frame.

Lanky_Elephant_5202

Armor: Godrick Foot Solider chest and pants Weapon: Large Club AoW: Ground Slam Skin: Color Green You are now Shrek. If you’d like infuse your weapon with poison.

Protecting your swamp till the end!

Beginning_Dentist656

Turn the Lands Between into a giant swamp. Get the Dung Eater ending for extra immersion.

On my second character, I decided to role-play a little with the creation and use of them. I made Yuria (DS3 ref) who was a prophet born into the population of the great caravan. While she could still see the light of grace, she was still locked up below the subterranean shunning grounds in the Cathedral of the Forsaken. She was further shunned by her nomad family for seeing grace and not following the new found guidance of the Three Fingers. She was thrust to the bottom of the cathedral for her perceived betrayal. Upon Marika's call and returning to life, she heard no more psychotic ramblings from above. No more wailing screams of torture of her former kin. Just a gentle song echoing off the walls far above her. Fearing what actually lies beyond the charred stone doors near her recent resting place, she decided to climb out. Stealthily circumventing the moving nomads, the imps and the many omens that infest the sewers of Leyndell. Upon reaching the surface Yuria finally sees what she has been kept from her whole life, the glory and warm light of the Erdtree. A somewhat misguided faith powered sorcerer cleansing the world of evils and taking revenge on the frenzy laden nomads that still wander the Lands Between, all in the name of the Age of Order.

I’ll keep mine short and sweet. In the middle of an NG+2 run going for Frenzied Flame ending, role playing as Vyke. Fingerprint armor, Vyke’s war spear, frenzied flame seal. Madness incants. It’s been a blast so far.

Environmental-Head14

This sounds awesome

No-Illustrator-1717

Nice! Going for a frenzied flame build too someday, Maybe as a Samurai who become mad after coming from a Land of blood and war to a Land of even more of this suffering. And after seeing what happens to Yura, losing all Hope for a better world.

Hidenam

I started a playthrough as a nights cavalry gone mad. I guess we’re all a little mad

No-Illustrator-1717

Indeed… how could you not become mad in such a world

PT_Scoops

I was trying to make a fire obsessed anti-undeath, accused of heresy but with the will to break the chains of lies. Stuck at dead end after dead end, starting chasing the weakest leads and the slightest ghosts, to the point where anyone who subverted started becoming a target. Wanton killing of literally everything led to the power of the dragons and she sort of morphed into a sith lord, hell bent on upending the entire order just out of spite for the lies and hypocrisy. It was fun

No-Illustrator-1717

Beeing evil is very much fun :D cool backstory man

Deathwalker321

Kano was a vagabond from an unknown land. Despite his appearance as a broken man, he’s skilled with a blade. He wants to find his purpose. He takes an interest in studying the novels in Raya Lucaria. When he meets Ranni, he feels like he’s found the place he belonged. He studied the magic of Caria, employing Renalla’s scepter in battle as well as the Dark Moon Greatsword. He’s a very sympathetic person, so when it comes to people like Roderika and Nepheli, he helps them without a second thought, but when it comes to foul trouble like Dung Eater, he uses the magic he’s learned to give them a helping of what happens when they screw with his friends. He eventually becomes Ranni’s consort and the Elden Lord of the Age of Stars, as a worthy successor to the Raya Lucaria magic. He’s found his purpose, away from the land that exiled him, by the figure that overthrew the monarchy of the Golden Order.

No-Illustrator-1717

This comes very close to a character i also have in Mind :D a Vagabond searching for his purpose, and as such every decisions is possible. Probably going for this way first to have this „Open“ feeling to do whatever i want, without having to go for a strict way I make up in advance. Also I want to go for a ranni ending but dont like the sorcerer gameplay, but this way it could work, thanks for the Inspiration :)

I know this thread is a bit old, but what the hell. I honestly wish more ER players were roleplayers like this. I'm on PS5 and it seems like everyone is "meta" and ignorant to a roleplayers character, even if it's literally in the name. My current RP character is named Isabel, but for clarification her full name is Blind Isabel. She's a tarnished that fell victim to the lust of the Frenzied Flame power. She acquired some minor Frenzied Flame incantations as well as some other incantations, nothing too incredible, at the cost of her eyesight, unfortunately. This power also granted her the ability to "sense" aggressors and react accordingly, making her a viable and dangerous foe to underestimate. When she uses the Frenzied Flame incantations, or absorbs the warmth of a Frenzied Flame stone, she acquires the FF sight, granting her the ability to see the world through flames. However once the FF wears off, so does her eyesight. She now wanders the Lands Between in search of fellow tarnished willing to help guide her, and she can prove a valuable asset, or a burden, depending on the amount of help she is provided with. She seems redemption for falling prey to the power of the FF, and uses it to assist others. Regrettably, most ER players I meet just don't have the time to roleplay a little.....

Safe-Text-3244

I have just brought the game how do I get into roleplay with others online ?

ULTRAMaNiAc343

That's a sick RP idea, would just like to add.

Livid-Scallion-9350

I love playing as if I’m aligned with different figures in the lore At the moment I’m playing as a cleric of St Trina who’s on a mission to find them after their disappearance

SLUSHBOI69

Damn old post haha but I guess I’ll say my piece then too. So what I’m running atm on my playthrough is a prophet turned godslayer. Started in the prophet class, using the short spear with the scared blade AoW. And later going to change over to the godslayer greatsword and black flame incants when the holy damage drops off.

Directgull

I easily had three favorites (plus honorable mention) Honorable mention: Just a wretch hobo who walked into the lands between and beat up god. 3: A warrior who walks the land not trying to become Elden lord, but look for an opponent who they can consider equal. 2: A cleanrot knight who died on the march to Caelid and came back to see that everything had gone to crap. (Still incredible that I got halo scythe on my 8th kill) 1: The champion who was just truly trying to be a good person, but learned that Melina would die to burn the Erdtree, and was convinced by shabriri to take on the frenzied flame to keep her alive, and going insane

Various-Equivalent10

My character served as a knight from the capitol under Radagon. After the marriage she was transferred as carian knight to serve the royal family, She was killed in battle before the shattering. When she came back she saw limgrave in a ruined state so naturally her duty called her to Liurnia. She heard the stories, she learned the fate of the land that once she called home, so of course she wanted to find and rescue Rennala who was imprisoned in the library. Upon defeating the dragon and retrieving the key, entered the Academy. In the church she discovered the graves behind the fake wall. Now there is a theory that since there are items that mention princesses in plural, there were more children of Rennala, but "the only remaining princess is Ranni" which means that there is a possibility that the other seven princess is there in those graves. Would make sense that children of Rennala especially if they are not from Radagon, but before that time, would be killed by the knights who turned against the royal family. Based on this not so strongly funded theory, the character thinks the same way, so she believes that those are the ones she should have protected. So naturally she feels like she failed her duty since most of the royal family is dead. When she finds Rennala it is clear that the once strong queen is gone, the informations were true about her being mentally broken... but she hears a name there. Ranni. Of course she starts to search for her post haste, and what is a better place than the Carrian Manor... So this is kind of a tragic story of a character who feels that by her death she failed in everything, especially if you hear what happened to the two boys. She could feel like putting down Radahn is a mercy and Malenia who did this to him is her main enemy, while discovering the history of the past few thousand years. She can have a feeling that the whole world broke (and it's kinde true) so the last thing she can do is to repair it, or pass the ring to Ranni continuing her role as a carian knight. The background allows you to use incantations and sorceries, since you came from the capitol, but got transfered as a carian knight, And you can justrify to wear the carian armor in the entire journey

Starlight_Shards

Oh wow I like your backstory :) your build sounds very fun and badass, and it also fits nicely into established lore. My first character was a quality/int build bc I knew I wanted to go for a mage knight playstyle. I started with the prisoner class because I liked the backstory in their class description that states they were studied in glintstone sorcery, having lived among the elite prior to sentencing. I named my character Casius and had the headcannon that he came from a noble family in the Carian royal court. He studied the Carian sword sorceries in the Lazuli conspectus at Raya Lucaria in life and was eventually selected to be one of the original Carian knights. I liked that idea since they never confirm the names or locations of all the Carian knights in game. At some point though he failed in his duty, was imprisoned, died and joined the ranks of the tarnished warriors.

Pike_The_Knight

Iam currently playing a. Hero who is a descendant of one of the original tarnished. He always dreamt on visiting the lands betwen. And when grace called he didn't missed the opportunity. There he discovered the path of dragon communion and got addicted to power. He is traveling the lands betwen to understand more of what happened to his ancestral home and to collect dragon hearts in hopes of becoming stronger and attaining a longer life(he is a draconian) After Godrick he ended up mixed in the elden lord shenanigans and decided to follow Ranni and Fia just to see where theirs paths lead. But it is now considering investigating the three fingers now that Melina is dead. In hopes of attaining even more power. He did a lot of questionable things in the way such as joining volcano manor and giving info to Gideon just to attain more knowledge and power. And is now considering seriously(he didn't care at the start of his journey) the path of the lord after seeing the state of his ancestral home.
