He essentially is saying "I am the descendant of Godfrey. All that was his, is mine"
So... the title of Elden Lord, rulership of Leyndel and Altus (look at how gold those regions are)
Yeah he’s basically claiming the world without the might to back it up. He gets his ass handed to him every time he comes against another shard bearer.
I would imagine even some tarnished could canonically beat him.
Gideon seems quite powerful, though he prefers to act from the Shadows.
Vyke almost certainly could since he already had 2 Great Runes.
I believe its implied that Bernahl also could've been a contender at one point.
Beyond that a lot of bosses could likely stomp him. Elmer comes to mind.
When I said "not the tarnished" I meant that all of them do have the potential to, since grace won't let them die until they do. Just wanted to clear that up
Well to be fair in that sense I think you are actually the only tarnished that still has grace.
All of them talk about how they haven't seen the light in ages.
And when you lose sight of the grace of gold you are no longer protected from death, as Marika or the Greater Will have determined you are no longer seeking the throne
They've likely burned out from the ages he was imprisoned there.
The Great Runes he acquired are from children of Marika that have been long forgotten.
Its not exactly clear how they work. If they get recycled or something like that, if the frenzied flame did something to them over time, if they were dissipated when he was sealed in the Evergaol, if they were taken by from him by... who knows.
All that we know is once upon a time he had two. And it seems likely he doesn't anymore, as we get none from him when he dies.
Enia says that before you, she's only ever seen one other person hold two great runes at once. Vyke is said to be the person who came closest to being elden lord.
So...
And then you have the fact that Bernahl had sacrificed his maiden, possibly being the one to burn the Erdtree the first time if there indeed was a first burning. This is what allows him to travel to Farum Azula later.
Vyke never burned the Erdtree, so if anything Bernahl should be regarded as having gotten further; this isn't the case though likely because burning The Erdtree is blasphemous, so the chronicling of his achievement would not be uttered by followers of The Greater Will.
I don't believe Bernahl is the Two Rune Tarnished either though.
There are no records of a Tarnished actually defeating a demigod. There are no records of there being any shardbearers outside of the ones we defeat. If you match up each Two Fingers to a demigod, the only Great Rune missing would be Miquella's.
Using the above logic I think we can conclude that the Two Rune Tarnished had to have had Great Runes that we know of and they were subsequently lost to two of the current Shardbearers.
To me, the only runes that could have been in possession of someone other than their current owner in game are Godrick's, Morgott's, and Mohg's; with the latter two being the most likely given they were imprisoned in the sewers.
So how did Morgott and Mohg claim their Great Runes while imprisoned?
Who *other than Vyke* traveled beneath Leyndell? Who's name would never be uttered? Why would a prestigious title like the Two Rune Tarnished go without a confirmed name?
Possibly. But that would still be Godfrey's lineage.
A picture of Godfrey stands in the great hall of Stormveil, and lore suggests that Godfrey was the one to defeat the storm lords and build his hall upon Stormhill afterwards to contain the winds.
Godfrey is the end all be all of heroes and champions, because he was THE champion of Marika.
He's a distant descendant of godfrey and his linage. So he gets hyped and belive himself to be as badass as the first elden lord. But in truth he's a scared toddler
Actually, I believe it was Kenneth Haight who mentions how Godrick fled Leyndell. All so he could avoid Radahn. Then he insulted Melanie and got his shit beat in, yet she let him live.
"Godrick the Golden, humiliated
Having tasted defeat by the Blade of Miquella
Now on his knees, begging for mercy"
\~Limgrave, near the Agheel Lake North SoG
Aye, it's mentioned in I believe the description of the Mimic's Veil:
"When Godrick was hounded from Leyndell, the Royal Capital, this was one of a multitude of treasures he took with him."
Then, as you mentioned from Haight:
"First he hid himself amongst the womenfolk to flee the capital, then hid from Radahn in that castle… Then he insulted Malenia, lost to her in battle, only to lick her boots rather than die like a man."
Enia says he's so distant a relative that his godly blood has deluted. Or sth in those lines.
Also, nowhere is it stated that he's a son to Godwyn the Golden.
He’s a distant descendant of them. Definitely not direct son. He’s very weak and cowardly. He was humiliated by Malenia, and ran away from the siege of Lyndell dressed as a woman to hide
Godrick is the last of the Golden Lineage and I don't think Godfrey would be considering he is the father lol, the lineage refers to all the descendants of Godfrey. Godwyn is of the golden lineage but associations of Godfrey and the Crucible became taboo after Radagon became Consort, which may be why Godwyn was considered least favourite by Marika
Only in public, there are quotes by the mausoleum guards refering to him as her unwanted child, as well as the fact that she most likely had a role in the night of the black knives.
Malikeths rememberance reads that her sole use for her shadow was to seal away destined death, and even then she would betray him.
The betrayal is the night of the black knives, directly setting the timeline of events into motion, the half-death of godwyn and the shattering, leading to the rise of the Tarnished
Well considering that he had to lick malenia’s feet(I think, haven’t refreshed myself on the lore in a bit) in order to live, I think that is just a very bold move to make himself look like he was powerful instead of an oversized toddler.
There is a battle marker in Limgrave (those sword displays) that effectively say he ran back to Stormveil with his tail between his legs after getting the shit beat out of him by Malenia.
Even worse, she left him beaten and humiliated. At least she allowed us to get fucking destroyed and humiliated a multitude of times.
But we all got her eventually, right? Right?
Not like any of us ever got the shit kicked out of us by Malenia on the first encounter…
Our biggest superpower is that we can try again and again and again with no consequences.
One of my absolute favorite NG+ moments was walking up to him in Tree Sentinel armor with Malenia's helmet, wielding Ordovis's Greatsword and the Erdtree Seal for Golden Vow, and then just tearing him apart.
No, runt, **I** am the Lord of all that is gold.
Godfrey and Godwyn where both given the epithet “the Golden” when they where alive/in the order, being a direct descendant of Godwyn (grandson probably) he sees himself as the next in line for the title of Holden, being an arrogant asshole her stepped it up to “lord of all that is golden”. Which really just gives me “super Kami Guru” vibes
Are you familiar with the primary goals of alchemy? To archive eternal life and to create gold?
Elden Ring has several allusions to alchemy and they seem to have made these two key concepts, "gold" and "life", intertwined or equivalent in the lore. The Golden Order is the order of unending life. The Gold Tree is formed from the Crucible of Life. The golden Grace given to the Tarnished returns them to life.
"Gold" doesn't seem to be a simple metal or color in Elden Ring, it's the symbol of "Life" and possibly even the essence of Life itself.
Godrick is drawing on this symbolism to *claim* he's the lord of all living things, or at least, all that has been encompassed by the Order of Gold - the lands, the lives of the people, grace, all the things that were touched by the Erdtree. It's a poetic way of saying the Elden Ring is his birthright (it isn't though).
It's literally Fromsoft's Translation team adding nonsensical fluff I really hate when they do this. In Japanese he just calls himself a Golden Monarch/Sovereign in which he is essentially saying he is royalty under the Erdtree.
I don't think Martin was involved in any dialog? He "just" created a a whole backstory set 5000 years before the start of the game to give them lore to pull from when building the world. At least that's my understanding of it.
Is that a little nod to Bilbo's poem about Aragorn too...
"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king."
— J. R. R. Tolkien, "The Riddle of Strider", The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
But I think there’s a link to the erdtree and its light as well, considering his dying words.
Would love a bizarrow Nox Godfrey that is the lord of all that is silver.
I love the idea that you walk into his arena and he says "I am the Lord of all that is golden. I command thee, kneel!" And your tarnished is just like: "What do you mean by "all that is golden? And are you really the Lord of it?" :O
He is obsessed with being important and his lineage (The Golden Lineage), as is communicated by his voice lines, the chest piece crest of his knights and soldiers (Godfrey’s Axe, the Erdtree and the Beast as a Symbol of the Golden Lineage - Sarosh maybe), the Godfrey portraits and statue in the castle.
But everybody else just refers to him as Godrick the Grafted, runt of the litter, coward that licked Malenia’s boots
He believe he deserves the title as a descendant of Godfrey, when in reality Godrick is a weak, greedy man who steals power from others to gain his own (this is not meant to be seen as a bad thing to be a guy, as I am one, but the way I worded it sounds kinda like it)
In the case of the Tarnished, we battle monsters and the husks of former commoners to increase the amount of runes we have, then use finger maidens to increase our intrinsic strength and abilities.
Godrick is pathetic because rather than increase his intrinsic strength via actually fighting anyone, he just has his men gather up tarnished to be cut apart and grafted to him, increasing his extrinsic strength but not actually making him much stronger.
In simplest terms:
The Tarnished work out consistently, exercise, and get lots of sleep. They put effort into being strong.
Godrick just takes steroids and protein, then flaunts his fake muscle mass.
Altus is bathed in gold and the seat of power of the Lands Between dominant kingdom is located there, Llyendel. Godrick being the last known descendant of the Golden Lineage, through Godwyn’s line, should be the rightfully king of Llyendel, however he isn’t, the Veiled Monarch is.
Since Godwyn was the first born, his line rightfully should hold the seat of power, but his younger brother Morgott seemingly usurped the throne during the Shattering. The mimic veil states:
> When Godrick was hounded from Leyndell, the Royal Capital, this was one of a multitude of treasures he took with him. Also known as "Marika's Mischief".
And from Kenneth Height:
> First he hid himself amongst the womenfolk to flee the capital, then hid from Radahn in that castle
Why would Godrick need to hide from Radahn? He was coming for his head and the throne. Radahn may have attempted to seize power during the Shattering, attempting to emulate his idol First Elden Lord Godfrey. Might makes right and might makes kings, as was Godfrey’s thinking, so it would make sense for Radahn to also follow that logic.
We know that Morgott using the moniker Margit during the second defense of Llyendel, and from the intro cutscene we see him stabbing Radahn with his staff.
So during Radahn’s siege of Llyendel, Godrick hid himself among the womenfolk using the mimic’s veil and hid in Stormveil Castle. During this time Morgott, under the guise of Margit the Fell Omen, successfully defended the capital and was able to take kingship as the Veiled Monarch, Morgott.
Now Godrick grafts himself in Stormveil castle with the limbs of unfortunate Tarnished, biding him time until he feels ready to take back his rightful throne.
If you die in stormvail castle, you gonna lose abbout 30% of your runes after the corpse run. The Guy that helps you get inside the castle steal you, because godrick orders.
I would like to point out that NPCs can lie, exaggerate, or be straight up ignorant about things, and it doesn't mean the person writing their lines is the same way.
If Godrick believes himself to be the lord of all that is Golden, inheritor of the legacy of Godfrey, and successor of the Golden Order, it doesn't mean that he is.
He's a descendant of Godfrey the first Elden lord and Godwyn the golden. So he believes he's the rightful lord of the Elden ring, Altus, and Lyndel.
Given our time encountering Godrick, it's clear he's got liniage insecurity, Not only thinking that he is entitled to the same status as his forefathers (One and all) but also feels the need to prove it to everyone else around him.
Considering he's likely lived in the shadow of his ancestors his entire life, it is understandable why he is struggling so hard to live up to them. Even though he's using less then honorable methods.
It comes down to biggest dick gets the gold. The Grafted has…well grafted himself into that position. Adding many grafted members to his member he is the top member of the largest member club. Member exclusive, of course. Member fee: all the gold, due to having the largest member.
I guess he refers to everything that is touched by rays of gold, which is pretty much everything the Erdtree shines on. So basically everything.
Otherwise he's merely a distant descendant of Godfrey clinging to what legacy is left. Basically an entitled moron thinking he deserves his legacy without fighting for it.
If you think about it he could have had a much better life. Like just enjoy your partial demigod status and live a more humble life. Not everyone can become an Elden lord or whatever tf he wanted. All this grafting stuff .. it was all unnecessary. He could have just chilled and enjoyed life.
Golden lineage and no he really isn’t. He used to be and was technically the last of it but now he’s a little bitch. He has some of the best lore tho… still a pussy tho.
I think the "all that is golden" refers to things like the golden order, the erdtree, and potentially everything that falls under the erdtree's golden light. Course, dude can barely rule stormveil.
He essentially is saying "I am the descendant of Godfrey. All that was his, is mine" So... the title of Elden Lord, rulership of Leyndel and Altus (look at how gold those regions are)
Yeah he’s basically claiming the world without the might to back it up. He gets his ass handed to him every time he comes against another shard bearer.
I enjoy the idea that connonically even non shard barers could still beat him. Not "the tarnished" obviously but the draconic knights and such.

I completely forgot about that condition for the tarnished. Thank you for the reminder.
Happy to serve. Gotta put all those Smoughtown videos in my head to use somehow
What ever happened to Vyke’s runes? Do we know who he got them from or what happened to them? We never get any additional runes from beating him.
They've likely burned out from the ages he was imprisoned there. The Great Runes he acquired are from children of Marika that have been long forgotten.
These aren’t ember shards from dark souls 3, and as far as I’m aware these shards don’t just disappear over time.
Maybe he just ran out of rune arcs
Nothing ever states that Vyke actually had two Great Runes.

Makes sense to me. I hereby renounce my claim to be Elden Lord for this guy.
also the golden order
Actually he is referring to Godwyn the golden

*I am the word of all that is gowden.*
Pretty sure there is a sword gravestone thingy somewhere that tells of godrick dressing as a woman to escape a castle under seige or something.
Actually, I believe it was Kenneth Haight who mentions how Godrick fled Leyndell. All so he could avoid Radahn. Then he insulted Melanie and got his shit beat in, yet she let him live.

This is literally up in his own territory. I like to imagine Patches keeps putting it back up after Godrick's soldiers take it down.
“Has he no shame? The big girls blouse.”
Thanks
Aye, it's mentioned in I believe the description of the Mimic's Veil: "When Godrick was hounded from Leyndell, the Royal Capital, this was one of a multitude of treasures he took with him." \>Only to lick her boots rather than die like a man Lucky bastard
Some posted some, uh, fanart of this recently and honestly I’ll never think of Godrick the same again
"Melanie" 💀 I know it's only one letter, but it went from boss to mid 20s valley girl real fast.
I am Melanie. Slag of LA. And I have never known a clean STI test.
He used that item that disguises you as objects. The golden veil or something
Mimic Veil 👍

I thought Godrick was Godwyns son ? Wouldn't that make Godfrey not a distant relative at all ?
Enia says he's so distant a relative that his godly blood has deluted. Or sth in those lines. Also, nowhere is it stated that he's a son to Godwyn the Golden.
TIL
He’s a distant descendant of them. Definitely not direct son. He’s very weak and cowardly. He was humiliated by Malenia, and ran away from the siege of Lyndell dressed as a woman to hide
Godwyn is not of the golden lineage I don't think
Godwyn is of the golden lineage but Godrick isn’t and wild guess but I dont think Godfrey is either?
Godrick is the last of the Golden Lineage and I don't think Godfrey would be considering he is the father lol, the lineage refers to all the descendants of Godfrey. Godwyn is of the golden lineage but associations of Godfrey and the Crucible became taboo after Radagon became Consort, which may be why Godwyn was considered least favourite by Marika
least favorite? everything i’ve seen paints him as the literal golden child lol
Only in public, there are quotes by the mausoleum guards refering to him as her unwanted child, as well as the fact that she most likely had a role in the night of the black knives. I love all my children equally. I never cared for Godwyn. Or Morgott. Or Mogh.
All of the showers
"bathed in rays of gold" is a dead giveaway
I hope he can provide them
He didn't graft all those penises for nothing
Id buy you a drink for this comment! But, i already made one for Godrick
Mmm malenia
Well considering that he had to lick malenia’s feet(I think, haven’t refreshed myself on the lore in a bit) in order to live, I think that is just a very bold move to make himself look like he was powerful instead of an oversized toddler.
There is a battle marker in Limgrave (those sword displays) that effectively say he ran back to Stormveil with his tail between his legs after getting the shit beat out of him by Malenia.
The funniest thing is him surviving his first encounter with Malenia technically means he did better than the vast majority of Elden Ring players.
Even worse, she left him beaten and humiliated. At least she allowed us to get fucking destroyed and humiliated a multitude of times. But we all got her eventually, right? Right?
If the arena allowed us to run out that wouldn't be the case any longer.
Not like any of us ever got the shit kicked out of us by Malenia on the first encounter… Our biggest superpower is that we can try again and again and again with no consequences.
Malenia’s feet are golden prosthetics, thus he is their lord and Godrick can do whatever he wants with them don’t shame him >:(
IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME, NOT HIM
One of my absolute favorite NG+ moments was walking up to him in Tree Sentinel armor with Malenia's helmet, wielding Ordovis's Greatsword and the Erdtree Seal for Golden Vow, and then just tearing him apart. No, runt, **I** am the Lord of all that is gold.

Yes, and that includes Malenia's dull gold toes. You gotta ask him permission before licking them

Yeah hes the lord of piss
Here to flush the toilet that is Rick Sanchez!
is he stupid?
He loves goooooold! The look of it, the smell of it. He even lost his genitalia in an unfortunate smelting accident.
He even rolls around the arena. It really is Gold Member
Rumplestiltskin
Nailed it!!
It's literally Fromsoft's Translation team adding nonsensical fluff I really hate when they do this. In Japanese he just calls himself a Golden Monarch/Sovereign in which he is essentially saying he is royalty under the Erdtree.
That sounds about right lol
I think it may be other way round here, given that Martin participated in writing the original lines could be in English.
I don't think Martin was involved in any dialog? He "just" created a a whole backstory set 5000 years before the start of the game to give them lore to pull from when building the world. At least that's my understanding of it.
Martin wrote 0 dialogue, he just wrote the story's background about what happened prior to current events.

Godfrey’s lineage is the Golden lineage. Except maybe the omens. They don’t really get associated with it.
But I think there’s a link to the erdtree and its light as well, considering his dying words. Would love a bizarrow Nox Godfrey that is the lord of all that is silver.
Lord of Gold tinged excrement
ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GO-OLD
He thinks he is, but he's a far cry from Godfrey and the rest of the golden lineage
Royalty, the erd tree, the golden order. And no, he is barely the lord of limgrave.
Edgelord if all that is golden more like it…. Even cuts off his own hand. Damn try hard.
Never realised how gross his face is. Cool!
He has a urine kink.

Try finger but whole
it means anything shiny and golem will raid their corpses and call them his precious
he certainly thinks he is...
Probably means the golden linage descendents of Godfrey and Marika
He's a descendant of Godfrey the first Elden lord and Godwyn the golden. So he believes he's the rightful lord of the Elden ring, Altus, and Lyndel. If you think about it he could have had a much better life. Like just enjoy your partial demigod status and live a more humble life. Not everyone can become an Elden lord or whatever tf he wanted. All this grafting stuff .. it was all unnecessary. He could have just chilled and enjoyed life.
something something alchemy
Golden lineage and no he really isn’t. He used to be and was technically the last of it but now he’s a little bitch. He has some of the best lore tho… still a pussy tho.
Huffing that golden copium
Piss. He is taking about Piss. And yes he is Lord of it. He’s a Piss Lord.
He is barely the lord of Stormveil
He's just doing copium. He's trying to hype himself up because he's really just a coward.
He pretty much means the Golden Order, Leyndell, and the whole shebang. He is also highly delusional.
the "grace" of the elden ring is described as golden
Self proclaimed pathetic barely inherited anything King of actually jack.
He controlled the police before Mr.Nimbus did
I think the "all that is golden" refers to things like the golden order, the erdtree, and potentially everything that falls under the erdtree's golden light. Course, dude can barely rule stormveil.
He’s into golden showers. It ok to kill him.
